I completed my AMCAS really early (I submitted it the second day it was allowed to). My LORs were in by July 10th. My Yale secondary invite came on July 12th and I completed it a day after (people told me they time you on these). I was free over the summer (laboratory research gives you A LOT of free time) so I was lucky I got all of my stuff done early. Good luck to the rest of you guys!

This is probably a stupid question, but how do you flip the calendar from september to october/later dates on the interview tab? I'm not sure if we're only supposed to have choices within the first month, or if I just can't figure out how to change the month...

Thanks!

Wait a few seconds, and then click on the month name. You'll see the little hand pop up that shows you can click and then it'll switch. Should be able to sched. up to Nov. 19th 🙂

Does Yale accept in the area e-mails? If so, should they be sent to the admissions e-mail, or just quietly uploaded on the supplemental app website?

Awesome! Thank you!!

There aren't any dates listed! I have a very specific date which I want (Monday, October 22nd) because of my interview schedule on the east coast and my dire need not to make two trips out. Should I send them a formal request?

But someone was complete about a week after me and got an interview a week or two before me, so don't get discouraged by time!

Click on the right side of "September" on the calendar and it will show October dates. I believe the 22nd was available.

Also complete 8/15 and got an interview invite today! Good luck to everybody still waiting!

Does anybody have any experience with taking Amtrak to New Haven (I'm coming from Boston)? Is it convenient or would you recommend something else?

This is what I am planning on doing. No idea if its convient but it seemed to be the easiest option(and cheapest) since I have to be in Boston anyways. Getting from Yale to Hartford or NYC to fly does not seem easy or cheap(and flying into New Haven is super expensive).

I'm also going from Boston, but I'm taking the Megabus. It's $21 round-trip. It's a longer trip by 2 hours but much cheaper than Amtrak if that's a concern. Otherwise, Amtrak is very comfy and punctual.

If I took 3 weeks to submit my secondary would that be viewed negatively?

I was able to get the 22nd. Something was wrong with my browser; the October tab wasn't available earlier. Glad I waited before emailing them

I'm coming from Boston as well and taking the Amtrak. I hear it's pretty good and makes good time! What day is your interview?

Also coming from Boston! Lol. I'm not till November though, decided to schedule later because all of these last minute September/early October plane flights are breaking my bank. Amtrak is cheap, like 25-30 bucks, and about 3 hours.

I am wondering about this too...

I'll be there this week so I'll let you know after I guess.

In case anybody wants to know, I got the interview a month after getting my AMCAS verified.

Anyone who had an interview today willing to share their experience??
Ok so it was amazing. Loved New Haven and the students, and the faculty was SO friendly. During my interviews, I forgot I was interviewing since we were just having conversations about things like music, traveling, exercising, and families. Food was great, too. We even got to sit in on a molecular bio class.

Soooo yeah, loved it. Hope you all get to experience it too.

got an interview invitation today!! so excited. I submitted 9/2 but i received the secondary 7/2 lol

over two months for me to submit

stats?

I also submitted 9/20ish and received the secondary 8/10 lol

Hey guys,

My secondary was complete 8/18/12 and I still have not received an invite for an interview. My stats are:

Science GPA: 4.00
Cumulative GPA: 3.99
MCAT: 37

Is it too soon to expect a silent rejection? Congratulations to everyone who got invites but it is a little discouraging to see people who submitted way later than I did and have already received invites.

as8906, don't think too much about the order of interviews or, well, anything in general. Mine was complete in July. What happens, happens. Wish you the best!

Clearly your stats will not be a factor that put you out of the running to get an interview here. That being said, looking at previous years, Yale gives out interviews at all points in the cycle no matter when you submitted your application and it really doesn't matter when you interview. It's still VERY early in the cycle so keep your hopes up 🙂 :luck:

Thanks. I actually have received a few pre-interview rejections so I was just wondering how Yale goes about letting its students know.

Got my interview invite this week!! I'm so excited. (I was complete 8/28.)

That's amazing! Btw... you should withdraw so that us mortals can get in :meanie:

Immortals... we put their name to the test.

"Remember us." As simple an order as a king can give. "Remember why we applied." For he did not wish tribute, nor song, nor monuments nor poems of studying and top scoring. His wish was simple. "Remember us," he said to me. That was his hope, should any free soul come across that place, in all the countless centuries yet to be. May all our voices whisper to you from the ageless stones, "Go tell the Superapplicants, passerby, that here by AdCom law, we lie."

Damn, that was friggin' epic...REMEMBER THE 4.0, 41's, AHOO AHOO AHOO

Hi, I need an honest opinion. I would love to go to Yale, but haven't applied because I was under the impression I wouldn't get in with my stats, but I've noticed a few others similar to mine. Should I apply? If I should, isn't it way too late? Would I be wasting my money? Hopkins grad, oos, 3.5 gpa, 34s, held 3 part time jobs at the same time, 2 1/2 yrs research, officer in 3 ec groups including one I co-founded, bio honors, working as an ER scribe this year (grad in may). The self esteem is tanking. I've had secondaries at all but one of 17 schools, but only one interview. Only 3 of those are reach schools. Getting very nervous.

With the information you described, you should get in somewhere, although it is true that great applicants "fall through the cracks" each year. Have a backup plan. I'm glad I did when the application process didn't work out in my favor last year.

Specifically regarding Yale, it's impossible to say how likely it is for you to land an interview or gain acceptance. True, your chances are slim, as are the chances for any individual applicant. That said, to some extent the admissions process can be likened to purchasing really expensive lottery tickets. I know someone who recently received an interview invite at Yale with a ~3.6 and MCAT <32, granted, that person was URM. Thus, if you can comfortably afford the secondary and you really want to go to Yale, give it a shot. Also, I believe Yale has non-rolling admissions, so you will not be at a significant disadvantage applying this late in the cycle.

P.S. I really like the direction this thread has taken recently. 🙂 If medical school rejections can be compared to arrows that blot out the sun, THEN WE WILL APPLY IN THE SHADE!

II today!!! Was suffering from a bit of a cold but this definitely brightened my day!! 😀

Interview invite! So stoked because of all of the great things I've heard about the Yale system and the research emphasis.
