2013-2014 George Washington University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just keep my fingers x-ed every day, hoping to hear something back. DC would be wonderful, especially since I have strong family ties in the area and want to be close by.

Nothing - complete 7/11 🙁 still no response, sorta jealous that the rest of y'all are hearing back. Mannnn

For everyone that has been put on hold...don't worry! I was put on hold too and got an interview invite!

When you application goes 'on hold' do you actually get an email or anything? So far it says that my file is now complete. Does the lack of interview or any communication put me on hold?

No, I believe that if you are put on hold, it will say so when you log in to view your status. I'm not sure if you would get an email about it though. If it says that your file is complete, you're not on hold

At this point I"m not even sure which of the 3 statuses (complete, on hold, re-review) is best to hold on to for hope

Hold and rereview are the same statues. Here is what it says on my status:

Your application to The George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences is complete and has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. To date, no final decision has been made and the Admissions Committee has placed your application on hold for re-review at a later date. Files are re-reviewed by the committee periodically and there is no set schedule for decisions. We do interview from September through March. Please feel free to update your file during this time using the GW Admissions Portal. If we require any further documentation or if your status changes, we will contact you immediately. We do sincerely appreciate your interest in our program. Thank you for your patience.

For me it was exactly 1 week from being "complete" to being put on "re-review". I spoke to one of the GW students yesterday at the NIH fair and he said being put on hold isn't really a big deal. He was put on re-review, and he got in.

On hold - now how to get from being on hold to then receiving an interview invite?

Interview invite for September 19th! I can't believe it! 😀😀😀

I know me too! I am on West coast time so when I got up and saw that email I was so excited! Still have to work on other secondaries today but this was definitely a nice surprise!

See you there on 9/19!

Does anyone know how receptive GW is to in the area emails? I would love to interview here if possible, and I will be interviewing somewhat nearby around the 19th.

well, I'm in VA so both richmond and DC are just a short drive away! I rescheduled my VCU interview for the next week though (just so I can get a chance to breathe!)

Congrats! When were you both complete?

Is there any point in submitting my secondary if my AMCAS hasn't even been verified yet?

I need some help on "What is your most significant achievement outside the classroom?"
I want to write about the clinical research that I just started 3 weeks ago. Do you think it would be good? or it is too early to decide this experience is the most significant achievement.
SHould this be in medical field or any field? Can overcoming immigration problems be a significant accomplishment?

Just one applicant to another: Mine was non-medically related. I'd probably steer clear of writing about something you've been at less than a month because I think it'd look less than sincere. Overcoming immigration problems seems much more significant if you can portray it in a way that shows you learned from it.

Finally submitted the secondary! Only took three weeks. =/

No matter - still not verified and committee letter won't be in until August 15th. But it's nice to have what felt like the most difficult of the pre-verification secondaries done and over with!

Here's hoping to some good news come "complete application" time!

Been complete since the 18th, anyone know about when I should expect to be reviewed?

Do you guys get an email about a status change? Its getting stressful to just keep refreshing my 'complete' status

I think the consensus here is that you won't get an email if you are on-hold but you will get an email if you get an interview!

Did anyone else have problems submitting payment with GW? I just got and finished my secondary there and am trying to pay but the system keeps denying my payment. I know it's not a problem with my card or anything like that. I've tried to contact their admissions office several times but keep getting no responses.

If anyone else had this problem or can think of any solutions other than callling/e-mailing I'd love the help on this one!

Dunno if it's applicable to GW, but I had a similar problem with TCMC (card denial due to AVS mismatch). The admissions office had to override it on their end, so keep trying to get in touch. Also, I'm on the West Coast, so I called them at 6 am my time in order to get ahold of their office before they got busy; you may have to try that.

For those of you that got an interview:
After you sent an email saying yes to an interview, did you get any confirmation emails? did the status on your website change? How long did it took?

My status on the secondary didn't change, but I got a confirmation within 24 hours.

Completed the secondary on 7/5 and I am still waiting for an update. My status doesn't saw anything about rearview...it is the same as the day I submitted.

This seems abnormally long based on what I have seen here.

I was verified was on 7/17 though...so would I not actually be complete until then?

You're not complete until they receive your AMCAS, secondary, and LORs.

I started to assume that. Great! I guess I should expect a decision one way or another soon then.

Interview on September 20th!!! Good luck to everyone 🙂
