2013-2014 George Washington University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Holy cannoli. Did anyone else get an interview invite this morning? I cannot even believe they send them out this early. SO EXCITED!

Just got an interview invite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice! Was it thorugh email? What was your app status before the invite and what is it now?

Yep got it through email. My application status didn't change, it's still: "Your file is now complete. At this point we have received all the necessary credentials including your secondary application and your letters of recommendation in order for your application to be reviewed. While the committee does its best to review applications in a timely manner, please be aware that in order to do a thorough review of your file it may be several weeks until you hear from us again. We greatly appreciate your patience during the application process. Please feel free to update your file during this time using the GW Admissions Portal."

It will probably change when they get my confirmation email. I'm pretty sure it's been the same since I submitted on the 2nd.

Just got an interview invite too! I've had the Complete status this entire time, for those playing along at home. Who wants to hit up Ben's Chili Bowl with me on September 5th?

Nothing here yet...I've also had the complete status this entire time.

Secondary submitted on the 30th and still no news. At "complete" status 🙁

Would anyone who got an II today be willing to share stats?

I anxiously keep checking my email and status... I submitted the 28th, but my last letter didn't come in until 2 days ago. Still marked as complete.

I submitted my secondary today and my status still shows "We have received your secondary application to the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. If you have not done so, please send your letters of recommendation to AMCAS. If you have questions about letters please contact AMCAS. If we require any further documentation, we will contact you."

All my letters of recommendation have been uploaded to AMCAS for a few weeks now, is there anything I need to initiate for GW to receive the letters, or will they be transferred automatically?

Thanks! And Congrats to those of you receiving II's 😀

I'm a wuss about posting exact stats, but whatever compelled GW to send me an II, it was definitely despite my numbers and not because of them. My cGPA and sGPA are both in the lowest 10th percentile of what GW accepts, according to the MSAR. My MCAT is above their average but not as high as their 90th percentile. I didn't claim underrepresented or disadvantaged status, and I'm not a non-trad.

In other words, my stats alone are pretty plain. Holistic evaluation process FTW?

I know that's pretty vague but hopefully it helps a bit 🙂

It does help, thanks so much, and congrats again!

Yay!! My first interview invite. Such a lovely surprise after a long day of ER scribing lol.

Those of you with interviews, what are your stats like, GPA and MCAT?

Those of you with your interview invites... did your app. ever go through the on-hold status?

I have literally been refreshing my email every five minutes all day waiting for an update! Come on interview!!!! Fingers crossed!

On-hold. Treating this as my first rejection of the year. Congrats to the peeps that got the II

Well it's not good news, but calling on-hold a rejection is a bit hasty this early in the cycle.

If you're really interested in the school, send a LOI. Apparently that helped quite a few people last year.

Isn't it early to send an LOI?

For those that got interview invites, did you submit around June 28 - July 3 (by that I mean very early)? I was marked complete 2 days ago and I'm assuming there are about 1000 applications before mine in the que for review.

Yes, I'm not saying it should be sent today..however, I think a month to two months after the secondary is submitted is an appropriate mount of time.

I just wanted to point out that being on hold is far from a rejection. Plenty of people who were on hold got II later in the cycle with and without sending a LOI.

Interview invite! 9/6

*and just a note, I went on hold for a day and was then taken off

Yeah, I'm not.

Question about LOI--who do you send those to and is it usually an Email?

Still on "complete" after 2 business days - those of you who got switched over, how long did it usually take

I was on complete for about five days, got switched over to hold for about four days, got switched over to complete for three days, and finally got the interview today.
