There are no essays per se...but if you answer "Yes" to any of these questions there will be prompt box for you to explain/describe briefly.

Most are 800 word limits

Have you lived (for three years or more) in communities which are medically underserved, or where the majority of the population is economically and/or educationally disadvantaged?
After residency, do you plan to practice medicine in an underserved or disadvantaged community?
Have you worked (volunteer or paid employment) with medically underserved, economically disadvantaged and/or educationally disadvantaged populations?
Are you self-described as a Native American?
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in any jurisdiction?
Please provide below any additional information you believe is important in evaluating your application (e/g/. additional coursework, problems with academic record; disadvantaged, etc.
What are you currently doing or what do you plan to do in the next 9-12 months?
I am now currently working or plan to work:
• In Biomedical or Clinical Research?
• Full or Part-time in medicine or a medical-related field(Nursing, EMT, PA, Office Assistant, etc.)?
• Full or part-time in a field outside of medicine?

Good luck to everyone applying! :luck:

Any current students wanna give insight on the school, curriculum, area? Day in the life? Thanks so much!

There is no easy, but you do have to write brief passages on the secondary. Good luck

Did anyone actually receive a secondary or are they going by last years secondary? The school states, "SECONDARY APPLICATION: Applications who have been verified by AMCAS will be invited, via email, to download the HUCM Secondary Application Form (.doc) - also available in pdf. If you receive this invitation, prior to December 14, you will have 30 days to complete and return the secondary."
I have not received an official e-mail from Howard regarding the secondary application. Also, this posted secondary is for 2012-2013.

I called Howard's Admission office for something else and the recorded message said secondaries would be out on or around August 15.

Just got this email from Howard:

Thank you for your interest in Howard University’s College of Medicine (HUCM). Our records indicate that you have successfully submitted a primary application for the 2013-14 Admissions cycle through the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS).
HUCM’s secondary application will become available to all AMCAS VERIFIED applicants on or about August 19, 2013. A “verified applicant” refers to those applicants whose transcripts have been received, confirmed, and verified by AMCAS. Please contact AMCAS directly if you have any questions concerning AMCAS verification.
After August 20, INVITATIONS TO COMPLETE THE SECONDARY will be sent to all newly verified applicants from [email protected] email every Friday or Monday until December 30, 2013.

at least it isn't a paper application like last year

@imsofly on website says 22 mcat and 3.0 gpa to be considered for interview. im not sure about avg of incoming class last year, but it may be in the FAQ page, which is currently down.

Hello brothers and sisters! I hope you all are doing well and getting ready for mcat or applying for med schools. Good luck with everything!

I am taking my mcat in the first week of September and will start applying beginning of October. So, do you guys think I am applying late for Howard?

What's good, bruh?

October is a little bit late, but, considering Howard has one of the latest secondary release dates, as long as you submit your AMCAS now and have your secondary pre-written you'll be fine, I bet.

Thank you ChemEngMD!
I am doing great, alhamdulilah. . But can I submit my AMCAS application now without my personal essay and letter of recommendations?

are you saying there is not personal essay to start applying working on the AMCAS appliction?

No. You need the personal essay for AMCAS (primary application) and there are short essays for the Howard secondary application

did they say they were emailing out the secondaries today?

LOL never heard of CPT?

Just got the secondary invite.

I dont know my city part of it is medically underserved looking at online and statistics provided by a government website. I just never realized it was an underserved area. Dont know if I should answer yes or no on that questions.

It should say it on your verified AMCAS. The section where you put the city you grew up will have a code that indicates whether or not its generally considered medically underserved/rural/suburban/urban/etc.

Received secondary.

Although the questions allow an 800 character response, I feel I do not have much to write about. Yes, I grew-up (and currently attend college) in an economically and educationally disadvantaged community. I also plan to practice or give back to the communities in which I lived. I feel like 2-3 sentences are too short for these questions.

I was planning to use the "any additional information" box to answer "Why Howard?"

I only wrote a few sentences for each prompt, but I tend to prefer short and to the point. Hopefully they do too, ha!

It does not give me the option to submit my secondary application payment, has anyone encountered this problem?

How did you guys fill out courses? For instance, Bio I with lab, do you insert two grades in the box?

Anybody get a confirmation email for submitting the secondary?

Did anyone get a fee waiver? I saw in the email that they don't give fee waivers out but somehow my application fee was waived. Do you think this was a glitch?
