2013-2014 Loyola University (Stritch) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
II 9/6!!! My only problem is that I was working all day and didn't find out until after the office closed. If anyone could tell me if they know if there are still openings for late October, I'd very much appreciate it! 😀

In the meantime, I guess I'll call and leave a message today.

Congrats! When were you complete?

So, when I log into my application it says: "Your file has been reviewed by the Committee on Admissions. The review process is continuous from now until the conclusion of our interview season in April. If you are granted an interview, you will be contacted by phone and/or e-mail."

So since it says my file has been reviewed but I haven't been emailed an II yet, should I assume that I've basically been put on hold? Does anyone else have this as their status?

I see this on my status page as well. =[ Bahhh.

Edit :: Also just realized that I completely forgot to add the "Why Loyola" piece I wrote up in the last prompt where it asks about anything else you feel they should know... I wrote about my MCAT but wanted to include that as well and somehow missed it. So mad... must have lost track of which secondaries asked for which specific things. I can't exactly send that as one of my three "update" files, can I?

Ok, so my interview is in a few weeks, but I haven't been given any further information about my interview... exact address, parking, itinerary/schedule... should I be expecting that soon?

Also, for those who have interviewed already, care to share insights/thoughts/impressions/words of wisdom?

Greatly appreciated, thanks!🙂

Just sent them an in the area email and got this back
"We will present this information to the Committee on Admissions. If they grant you an interview during the time you will be in the area, you will hear from us via phone and/or email within the next week or so."

So :xf:!!!!!

I purposefully did not put a Why Loyola there because while it seemed open to interpretation, it seemed like that was to discuss more concrete parts of ones application, or give updates since submitting AMCAS. I figured that Why Loyola could be covered duly in an update letter - try and look at it like this; in an update letter, you can provide brief information about the "update" like - oh I got an A in my summer micro class or, oh btw I was given a scholarship for this year for excellence in community service, or "I started a research project in my lab in late August" etc and so on and so forth - but no details are needed - you can expand on that in an interview. Instead, use the space you save by not writing in the details, to discuss "Why Loyola"

People with HOLD STATUS

Are you pursuing a master or some other degrees?

I got the hold status and I am in a postbac...is it just based on my MCAT/GPA

When's your RF interview?

Got the same response from them a week ago. Hopefully, they get me one soon cause flight prices are slowly going up ... :scared:

I'm on "hold" and I already have my M.S. I seriously don't really know what this limbo is about and how to get out!!

Okay thanks. That was my intial interpretation, that it was more related to updates, but figured it couldn't hurt to put in a "why Loyola" blurb. My only "issue", I guess, is that I don't really have any more updates - I started my gap year experience in early July and already wrote about that in the secondary, and unless I get added to another study (which may happen) there really won't be anything to bring up-to-date in terms of activities. I graduated in May so I'm done with classes and I'm working full-time until next summer. So I guess I'd just plan to submit an "update" in a couple months or whatever explaining why I'm still interested in Loyola/ why I'd be a good fit and if I get added to this second study?

Nope, not pursuing any other degrees at the moment... got my B.S. in May. I have a feeling my MCAT is why I'm on hold, but hopefully they read my secondary thoroughly and see that it shouldn't be as bad as it looks haha.

Ugh! I just received an II from Rush and they only interview on Wednesdays. I scheduled my interview with Loyola on a Wednesday. :smack: I wonder how they feel about rescheduling. Has anyone tried to reschedule?

Bummer. I don't want to come off as high maintenance or uninterested. Better to call sooner than later.

Congrats! When were you complete?

Complete 7/12 🙂

My interview is reaalllly soon aka September 25th. So I'm in the same boat as you, ticket prices are getting ridiculous.

My primary was verified back in mid July, but I still haven't heard a thing from this school. They haven't even sent an email acknowledging that they received my primary app. Is this normal, or should I contact the admissions office to see if something is messed up in their system?

MSAR says they screen, you mightve been screened out. whatre your stats?

I rescheduled mine; they got back to me quick and it wasn't an issue. There's no sense making two trips to the same place haha.

Oh that makes sense then. My MCAT scores were only released last week. I was just thinking they'd at least let me know they received my app. I have a 3.8GPA, a 33 MCAT and good ECs.

Ah 23rd for me. Today is a week since my last email. If I don't get anything by tonight or tomorrow, I'm thinking of giving a call tomorrow just to see if the AdCom had convened ... Doesn't seem too neurotic right?

If you have already contacted them once, I'd say wait to hear back.

Well they said they'd contact me within a week after an in the area email (a week would be today) if the committee decides to offer an II. Would that just mean they wouldn't contact me at all if they decide not to offer?

I was just thinking of calling and just saying something like "Has the AdCom convened recently? I was told I would receive a response to my ITA email within a week which has passed. Could I just assume that the AdCom will not be offering me an II while I am in the area so that I may buy my plane ticket now?"

Something along those lines. Don't want to come off as rude or nosy as well ...

Surprised and grateful to see I just received an interview invite. Secondary submitted 7/26. Nontraditional student with one mcat section score <8. 🙂

Congrats! Did you find out via email, phone call, or status change?

Thank you!! I received an email, then about a minute later a voicemail popped up on my phone from them. I don't get a signal on my phone at work, so calls always go to voicemail, so I'm not sure if they called right before or right after the email. I haven't checked my status to see if that's changed because I don't have a computer here. Can't believe my luck at getting an invitation!

Hold Status as of yesterday 🙁. Does anyone know if this more than likely leads to rejection? I was looking at past threads and it didn't look like many people with this status ever ended up with an interview invite.

II today! Nice to have some home institution love! Complete 7/24

Sigh ... Think I'll be buying a ticket to my Rosalind Franklin interview now. Don't think I'll be getting an II while I'm in the area. 🙁

Oh well, another trip to Chicago (actually closer to the city) should be fun.

anyone know if we get a 'complete' email from this school? if so, how long after you submit your secondary?

They may have changed things since last year, but I only received a confirmation of payment after submitting my secondary. The next thing I heard from the school (a little over a month later) was an invite by phone.

I forget if there was some "complete" status online. There may have been.

Anyone go from has been reviewed -> interview invite? I've had the has been reviewed status for a month now.. Not sure if I should give up hope

I have been complete since 7/23 and my status is still "Your file is under review with the Committee on Admissions. Please note: files can be in review until the end of the interview season in April."

Anybody else waiting this long for either an II or a change to the "hold" status?

My file went from "under review" to "has been reviewed" back to "under review" in a period of hours. At the time I though there was a glitch that made me "has been reviewed" but now I am wondering if there was a glitch that switched me back to "under review". I saw a few people here with the same situation. How has it turned out for you?

Literally the exact same thing happened to me. I'm still "under review" now and I was complete on 7/24.

I will be keeping an eye out for how things go for you, and I will be sure to post any status change here ASAP.

Went from "is under to review" to "has been reviewed" after two months of being under review. I am assuming that's a hold? I hope I am not out of the running.

Damn... just checked and got the "has been reviewed" status...

I had the has been reviewed status for a little over a month and just received an interview! It was a nice surprise since this is one of my top choices.I don't think it's necessarily game over if you get that status.

I also just got an II this morning after having the hold status for over a month. It's definitely not a death sentence if you're on hold.

Nice! Did you get the II by email or status update?

Congratulations to those of you who have received interview invites so far! And for those who haven't, don't give up. There's still a lot of time left in the interview season. :luck:

Does everyone get the "been reviewed" status? I'm really hoping they put that up to let you know you aren't automatically rejected post-secondary.

I'm trying to decide what this means as well. I guess "hold" makes sense for the "has been reviewed". More likely, its exactly what they say it is "review is continuous". Maybe the first reviewer of our files wasn't blown away, but not exactly "throw away".

To me, its a maybe. I'm not the cream of their crop, but maybe they'll come back to me.

Hello! I was wondering if anyone knows the earliest interview date this year? I'm just curious. Also, anyone know if they interview every day or just certain days? Thanks 🙂
