2013-2014 Temple University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I've tried calling the financial aid office multiple times with no answer. I've tried leaving voice mails and emailing them. No response to anything! Sort of worrisome...

This. I'm half tempted to print out the acceptance page that instructed us to make appointments with financial aid and walk into the office with it...

Is TMO still down? I've been trying to get information on what we need to do post acceptance and information about second look. All I have done so far is pay the deposit and just submitted my FAFSA. Anything else that needs to be done at this time?

TMO is not down for me, but I'm on the Health Science Campus right now.

Eventually we have to send in transcripts, vaccine titers, etc. I'm referring to this portion of the welcome page:

"All questions about financial aid should be directed to the Student Financial Services Office at (215) 707-7846. You are encouraged to meet with a Financial Aid Counselor in person. If you are calling from a distance, you can schedule a phone conference with a Financial Aid Counselor by calling either of the above numbers."

I really hope they aren't serious about financial aid info not being available until June or later... Not cool with the deadline for us to decide schools by May 15...

Just spoke with the office, I'm meeting with someone Monday. I'll try to get some more solid details on when FinAid packages are set to come out. I'm sure we can also ask during Second Look.

Thanks. Looks like TMO is up and running again. It was down throughout this past week, I wanted to see if there was any information posted about second look..although looks like there is nothing new there as of yet.

Nope, nothing new yet, but I am conducting an aggressive campaign on fbook to convince people to go to happy hour afterward. Join me!:soexcited:

Just got back with meeting from Joanne in Financial Aid. Students who are getting academic scholarships will be notified via the admissions office sometime soon, well in advance of May 15th. Need-based awards are based on the class composition/require more extensive review, and those are the awards that will go out in June. I haven't received any word of a scholarship, nor will I likely qualify for any, so I don't know if/when those will go out. Maybe we'll have more details after second look. Honestly, when I finally got a hold of her, Joanne was extremely kind and helpful. My home circumstances are difficult, and she really put me at ease with respect to how one goes about qualifying for institutional aid. While it's admittedly frustrating to leave messages without getting an answer, keep reaching out to Financial Aid if you have questions. She told me she rarely takes lunches, so noonish may actually be a good time to get in touch with her.

about to hit 8 weeks, still no news. this cant be good lol

Yea same here I'm kinda expecting a waitlist/rejection at this point. It may just be taking awhile for them to mail my letter out. 🙁

Any other SDNers planning on coming to the second look? Apparently we get to go to Dave'n'Busters afterward?

Waitlist via snail mail. Likely to withdraw gl everyone

Waitlisted also. Kinda bummed but hoping it all works out!

I was waitlisted here a few weeks ago- does anyone know if they accept letters of interest/intent now or if they prefer we wait until May to send them? Also does anyone know how many people they usually take off the waitlist each year? I am really interested in this school and would definitely go if accepted.

I'm not sure what the "ideal" timing of a LOI would be, but I understand there was no movement off the waitlist last year. I still think it'd be worth it to inform the adcom of your sincere interest, though.

At my interview day they did state they were actively working on making sure there is some waitlist movement this year. So there may be hope!

anyone who've interviewed in mid-Jan and have yet to hear back? For people who've been waitlisted through snail mail, does Temple also send an email/update your app online? i'm starting to think that a waitlist letter was sent to me but i've missed it somehow...

thanks in advance

I got waitlisted via snail mail, and my status online still says "Interview Complete." I have not received any emails.
Also, I think it was almost exactly 8 weeks post-interview when I received my letter.

Good luck!

thank you for the info! I wish you luck too

Has anyone tried (and had success) contacting the dean of admission directly about a preinterview update/letter of interest? I would love to go to Temple, but it looks like my application is sitting in a trashcan somewhere.

At this point, I don't see how it could hurt?

So this might be a stupid question but what are people wearing to the second look? Is it time to break out the suit again or is it more of a dress shirt and khakis kind of thing?

I plan on wearing a nice dress and a blazer. I got the impression that it's business casual, but I suppose calling and inquiring after dress wouldn't be out of place.

I'll be riding in so I'm gonna have to go with jeans but hopefully a nice top will make up for it? Lol

Anyone know when we should start seeking out roommates/apartments? I'm trying to live near the med school and don't want to jump the gun or miss it altogether...

I'm going to make my decision after second look; if I connect with someone, roommate, if not, alone lyfe for me. I would also strongly recommend you reconsider living near the school. This neighborhood is 1) not the best 2) in a grocery store desert. If you live close to the Broad Street Line in Center City, you're literally about ~15 min from campus. I live in deep south Philly and my commute is maybe 40 min, about half of it is walking.

I lived in West Philly for first two years of UG (not bothered by the sketchiness, plus I've visited the TUSM area at night a lot) and have commuted from my parents this year so I could afford applying (5 hours round trip a day on SEPTA so I'm sick of commuting in general)

I'd be all for center city but the price seems to be out of my range (trying to stay around 500) unless I find a great deal

Fair enough, but there are definitely some steals in CC and South Philly if you look.

I guess the second look will give us the opportunity to meet students and figure out potential roommates 🙂

Just received an ii from Temple and had the opportunity to pick a slot through next week. Does anyone know whether interviewing this late in the game significantly hurts chances?

That is great news! I am still waiting for some type of communication from them, so knowing that they are still sending II makes my day. Fingers crossed.

To those of us already on the hunt for housemates, would anyone be interested in drafting/using a little "About Me" type bio to post to the fbooks page to facilitate matching up potential roomies? For my post-bac we had a page of listings that members could peruse, and I found it useful then.

I honestly don't know whether the timing matters, but congratulations nonetheless! Rock the interview like you mean it and maybe being fashionably late in the game won't matter.

I was extremely surprised to receive the II, and had all but given up at this school being under review since the summer. I think this just shows it's not over until you receive a letter saying it's over. I also sent in a few update letters to show interest if that helps.

Congrats. Hope you rock the interview. Late II just goes to show it's never over for a Master of Karate and Friendship.

Getting an acceptance might really impress the waitress. Good Luck!

You could post it in the FB page to get opinions. I personally think it's a good idea.

They still haven't posted 2013's. I don't think it's out there, unless another MSY4 feels generous...
