Just received an Interview Invite! Absolutely elated!
However, the only option I was given by the interview scheduler was January 16...
I was under the impression that most people were able to choose between 2 or more dates, and that their options typically were not so far separated from the date of their interview invite. Has anyone else had to schedule their interview 2 months ahead of time? I'm wondering if this is because of the holidays or if they found some reason to lump me in with the reapplicant interviews. Any opinions?

Thank you for the reassurances, your replies greatly assuaged my anxiety over the weekend.

i think its because of the holidays. same thing happened for one of my other interview.

Thanks! This is my top pick but I'm a Florida resident so I don't hold out too much hope. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too!

Whats the reason for the delayed re-applicant interviews? Just to show productivity since last cycle? Are they a considered as a separate pool of candidates? I'm OOS/re-applicant, bet my chances are lovely.

Yes, there are multiple reasons. First, it gives you a chance to improve upon your weaknesses such as interview skills, GPA, extracurricular activities, MCAT, etc. Next, if you are in school, you are asked to submit your transcript from the fall semester in January. Last year the re-applicants were interviewed 2 separate dates at the end of February the 21st and 28th, if I'm not mistaken. I'm also in the same boat. Hope this helps! And to y'all reading this Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels!

Sounds like that wouldn't be too many re-applicants that get an interview invite, then again depends on how many reapplied. Thanks for that info, I'll try to quit obsessing over my status for a couple months now.

Why do you think there are not too many ii that go to reapplicants? Makes my heart sink

I just figured it's a small number of people if they only have two interview days set off for re-applicants. (I'm assuming there are a significant # of re-applicants and there might not be.)

I wonder if there are any statistics available on the number of re-aps that get accepted. I wonder how many re-aps there are this cycle. Any body know?

Well, I would predict that they interview anywhere from 40-50 re-applicants, if not more, based on the number of interviewees per interview day. I'm partial here. Also I would think reapplying shows persistence, determination and commitment. Furthermore, I know many current doctors who had to reapply for example a cardiovascular surgeon and a dermatologist. So there is hope my friends! Cheers!

PS Stats from 2013 entering class:
2930 students applied
417 interviewed
267 acceptances

Congrats! I interviewed Thursday too, and I just got my acceptance email! It looks like a good day for 11/14ers. Which school did you go to for undergrad? I think I might remember you. Malissa, UA grad here.

Congratulations! That was really quick. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad sign for me, but I suppose we'll find out at some point.

Hey guys, I interview on November 14 as well, and got my acceptance on the 18th! I also loved the school. Right now I am in a real struggle right now if it is worth the money. By the way I was the guy from Tennessee Knoxville.

I also wanted to know if you guys has gotten your campus assignment yet in the mail.

Sure 🙂 I have a 3.9+ and a 30 MCAT. I'm soooo excited about this one!
Oh nice! My GPA is lower but mcats high so I'm hoping I get a shot. This is probably my top choice tied with florida

🙁 Still no word from the MSTP for those of us who were put on the back-burner after they dealt with those who were in the first wave of IIs? They told me that they would let me know about a possible second-wave II in mid-November. I haven't heard anything. Dagger!

Any MSTP folks out there? I tried emailing about a week ago, but haven't heard back. Maybe I'll call after the holiday?

I checked the 2012 thread, and it looks like they didn't get any letters in the mail until around the 2nd week of January. So we might be waiting awhile...

Haven't gotten my acceptance letter yet (accepted 11/18), but my campus assignment has been posted online!

II for the MSTP at UASOM today by email.

I was on hold for a month and a half. Excited to visit Birmingham. I've never been there.

Is anyone still under Remain Under Consideration for Interview? If so, about how long have you been under this status? Does anyone know how they handle these applicants?

I have been "Secondary Complete, Under Review" for almost two months now. I think it's literally just whenever they get around to you.

Finally complete and review after over a month+ wait. I think they have finally started to move reapplicants to this status.

I am a reapplicant, have been complete and under review for a couple of weeks. I am hoping for an ii, but am not expecting it till end of January. Glad to hear there is some sort of movement.

I'm an MSTP applicant and received an email on Oct. 18 saying my secondary has been processed and is under review and it also included:
"We hope to have all supplemental applications reviewed and scored with interview invites sent out by late October."

Given that it's early December...does this mean a silent rejection for me? Is there any way to check status?

Really loved this school. So much more laid back and transparent with their admissions process. I felt very welcome, even as an OOS student in a room full of UA and Auburn grads. Interviewed 11/21 accepted 11/22. I went with Huntsville as my first choice since I heard the students there get a lot more mentoring and hands-on. Thought these guys did everything right on the interview day--they just seemed much more approachable and down to earth, while still being a very good school!

Congrats! I'm sending my update letter soon and praying for some oos love.

Any IS re-applicants also applying at USA? I don't think they make all of the re-applicants wait until February..

I'm georgia resident and got the interview invite a couple of weeks ago and picked jan 16, just been so busy with finals to post. from the MSAR, it seems that uab only interviews and accepts a few oos applicants so I'm very nervous bc my mcat is extremely low. I was shocked to get this interview! any advice would be great! also, is it possible to get reclassified as a Alabama resident for upcoming years? if I attend uab I want to become a permanent Alabama resident anyway as I only live an hour from the state line and I want to practice where I go to school, but I didn't know how friendly they were for reclassifying for tuition purposes without getting married to an Alabaman or something lol

I just had my interview here today and funny enough they specifically said that no out-of-state person can reclassify as in-state by attending the university of alabama som per the policies put in place by the board of trustees. The only instance the presenter could imagine/remember where they made an exception is when a student was getting married to an Alabama resident 😛
