2013-2014 University of Alabama Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Complete back in Oct. I'm a reapplicant. They interview reapplicants at the end of February. The two dates I had to choose from were Feb. 20th or 27th.

II yesterday. Also a reapplicant. Chose the 27th. Hope everyone is braving the weather safely!

I was fortunate to schedule an interview for 2/27. I'm a reapplicant.

Does anyone know how the school handles those that are in the status of "remain under consideration for an interview." I have been in this status since September. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Some people get this status a few days before an ii and some people remain in this status for several months. As long as you still have this status, there is hope for an interview.

Congrats to those who recently received IIs. Any other reapplicants still waiting to hear? Anyone have thoughts on the chances of receiving an II if you interviewed/were wait listed last year?

Has anyone been able to find the UASOM Class of 2018 facebook page yet? They suggested that we join but I haven't found it yet.

for those of you who have recently gotten II's (except reapplicants), what days did you have to choose from?

I'm just going to go ahead and be honest. Since getting accepted last semester, i've been slacking off hard. How screwed am I if I make 2 Cs my spring semester.

I think as long as you pass everything, it will be fine. You could call admissions to ask if there is a gpa requirement in the last semester for an "accepted applicant" or something like that to remain anonymous.

Looks kinda bad, probably will still be fine though. If you can bring one of them up to a B it would be much better.

yea, i didnt expect to have the remain under consideration for interview status for 6 months. oh well.

For those of you accepted, how long after recieving the acceptance email did you have to wait before recieving your official letter of acceptance/campus assignment? Also, was the letter sent to your "preffered address" or "permanent address" (as listed on AMCAS)? It's been almost a month since I got the email and I still haven't recieved mine.

Also, quick question out of curiosity..how many of you were actually assigned to your top campus choice?

I was assigned to my 3rd choice. I know that is not very representative though.

Rejected MSTP at UASOM today. Tough break. Thought the interviews went pretty well, too...

Best of luck to everyone else.

Thought y'all might want to know, UASOM sent out an email today saying that due to several bouts of severe weather in Birmingham they are about a month behind in the admissions process.

Got my UAB banner id via email yesterday, maybe this is a sign that I'll be receiving my campus assignment soon. Any thoughts?

Sorry to hear that man, hope your other prospects pan out for you. Good luck

Thanks for the info; didn't get that email, I'm guessing it was sent only to prospective students. Maybe it has something to do with campus assignments taking so long as well.

Same here. My interview was Oct 3 and its been like that ever since. 🙁
My status remained this way for about 2 months before I was accepted. They will be sending final decisions out in March, so you will hear soon either way. If you haven't been rejected, then you are still in the running 🙂

Does that mean another month of interviews to be given out? I received this e-mail and was wondering whether to write UAB off before but am unsure now...

Well, I know that they had to reschedule at least one set of interviews, probably 2 sets of interviews, due to the weather. And if I'm not mistaken, they interviewed some first time applicants in early March after interviewing re-applicants in late February last year. So I'm guessing this is pushing interviews into mid-March and probably towards the end of March. Therefore, I'm predicting final decisions will be made in mid-April like last year.

Any interview tips guys ???

Be yourself, be honest, smile, and relax. Interview day at UAB is an absolute pleasure, they really do a lot to make their interviewees feel comfortable.

Most of the conversation in my interviews pertained to my application experiences/essays, however each one of my three interviewers had one or two questions not specific to what I had written about (though not completely random either).

Have a couple of questions ready to ask your interviewers once they are through with theirs. Also, be ready to bring something up about yourself that would sell you as a great candidate but wasn't mentioned in your application.

Again, just relax and enjoy your visit, you're gonna love it. Best of luck!

Thanks... Was it a group interview or 3 seperate interviews ?

3 more people were added to the UABSOM class of 2018 facebook page yesterday, so signs point to yes
That doesn't mean that acceptances went out to anyone yesterday. People can join the fb group at any time. I did not hear of anyone, but who knows?

Agreed, but I've noticed as of late that after acceptances are sent out there are usually a few new group members added. Could just be coincidence, but my FB stalker intuition says otherwise. However you are right, who knows..

Can I ask how many people are in the FB group? And are all of them definitely planning on attending UASOM?

69 members right now, though the number increases slightly typically once per week. No idea if they are all committed to UASOM yet or not, though I do know a few of them personally who are.

*Edit: FB group membership dropped by 1, so it seems like the answer to your second question is no, they are not all committed to UASOM yet. However I would assume that most are.

when does the adcom meet?

During the morning orientation of interview day we were told that they meet after lunch (interviews are held in the morning) and make decisions before the day is over.

Hey ya'll! I'm accepted and most likely will be in one of these rooms with a friend of mine. If any females are looking for a place to live near campus, you should contact her 🙂 Here's her info!

Looking for 2 female roommates in a 3 bedroom condo in Bristol Southside (401 20th St South). The complex is walking distance from the UAB Campus and has a BlazerExpress bus-stop located across the street. There are two rooms available. One is the master bedroom, fully furnished, with its own bathroom and walk-in closet. The other has its own walk-in closet with a shared bathroom. The utilities, water, internet, and cable are included in the flat-rate price per month. The condo has its own kitchen, living room area ,dining area, and two balconies. Washer and dryer are also available in the condo. It's located on the 4th floor of the gated building with its own security. Amenities of the complex include pool, patio, trash, and gym. Please contact Esther Song [email protected] or 2564578820 if you're interested and we can figure out pricing. Thanks!

Does anyone know if they're still sending out ii's

I think they have some more to send out. Their website states that they typically send out the last ones by late February. And since they said in that email that they were a month behind, I assume that means they'll be sending out the last ones in March. I certainly hope that's the case!
