2013-2014 University of California - Davis Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The only date available for me was Oct 11th. There's no spot in Sep/Nov/Dec

Looks like that one's no longer available now. (Lucky duck, cooksgenes!) Patience. 🙂

tell me about it, I am still shocked that I even got an II... I would pick another date had I seen one though. Oct 11th is too soon for me.

so according to the numbers posted by someone earlier, if you get an interview, there's a 50% chance of getting in? that's great news for people with interviews

YAY just got an II!!! FYI, I completed really early (like in June) so don't lose hope everyone!!!!! And I have a <9 VR on the MCAT too 🙂

Hey congrats! That's good news cause I was complete really early too and have heard nothing since. Mind sharing other stats?

Has anyone who applied for the ACE-PC track (3 year primary care MD program) received an interview invitation?

As we all discuss "silent rejections," my only hope is that my application is in a separate pile because I applied to that program.

Still hoping there's some folks that applied to the other programs and are looked at in a diff pile. Haven't heard anything for a while either (also applied for ACE and a few of the others). No silent rejection, hopefully!

Just scheduled interview for 9/27, anyone else? Flying from San Diego the day before. Was anyone not accommodated by the host program? Says first come first serve basis but they don't inform you until a week before...

Interview for Oct 4th, anyone else?
(complete 8/28)

anyone who wrote an essay for ACE-PC receive and interview invite yet?

Hi mej06. Yes, I am applying for the ACE-PC program and have received an interview. I was complete mid-July and received my invitation in early September.

:O! Congrats! I am full of jelly 😀

Why is it that all other programs have an extra interview after the MMI except ACE?! I really wanted the opportunity to elaborate on my love for primary care before I'm up on the chopping block (post-interview). I emailed asking for more info about applying to ACE and all I got was silence. Ya ya patience..

Just turned in my secondary. Pretty late, huh? 🙁

Anyone know how many secondaries Davis hands out every year?

UCD Doesn't seem to screen as thoroughly as some of the other UCs, so my estimate would be anywhere between 3500 and 4000 secondaries awarded (guessing around 5000 apply total, basing on relatively recent numbers). Fewer than 600 receive interviews though.

Why would u say that they don't screen as thoroughly?

It's more mindless speculation that I have guessed based on the people posting on the threads, since I follow all the UCs. The other UCs seem to take a lot longer before rewarding secondaries, esp. LA, SD, and SF. Outside of Davis' harsh anti-OOS and anti-international preference, I've seen more secondaries awarded by Davis than LA or SD. Irvine I believe gives abt half of all their applicants secondaries too (that's posted on their page somewhere)

Ofc, UCD also apparently does silent rejections and has rejected seemingly overqualified applicants, so everything I've said could be moot

If you are offered a skype interview for the special programs (TEACH-MS, Rural-PRIME) after attending the MMI session, does it mean that you have already been accepted to the school?

Has anyone here had these interviews yet?

Complete 8/27. II on 9/10. Scheduled for 10/11! 🙂

Earlier in the thread, it seems that it was established that Davis does silent rejections.. So I'd assume so. I'm in the same boat

Yeah, I'm in that boat too. Complete since 8/14 ~

Gentlemen, I say we sail that boat straight to Davis, walk up to the office of admissions, promptly turn around and find a cow to tip instead.

But the cows are so peaceful 🙁

Fortunately, there aren't very many cows near the med school. Unless you count the ones on the safeway shelves. 😛

I was complete back in June and just heard back last week (more than 2 months of waiting) so I'd say no news does not necessarily mean bad news

Oh wow, you give me hope. Hoping that I get more luck on the revisit then!

I'm down for some steak.... and lobster if we can get it.

Banjo Kazooie-man!

In all honesty though, do people get into these UC schools with like 31 mcats? I wonder...

I ponder... I suppose I'll wander... over to a mcat prep class for next year

Short answer... Yes they do. I have a friend at Davis who got in with a 27. There's another girl I know that got into irvine also with a 27. Numbers are not everything , my friend.

Alas! A glimmer of the sun through the fog.

I has friend.

Got verified this Thursday and received a secondary this morning! After we submit the secondary do we have to wait till the request LORs? Is that how schools typically work?

Please educate me! Thanks! Best of luck to everyone! :luck:

They will automatically receive the letters that you assigned to them on AMCAS. No need to do anything else.

Sometimes it can be a couple of days before the letters show up in their system though.

Hey guys,

Congrats to all the interview invites. I turned in my secondary on Sep 7th, and they still have not received my LOR and prereqs....is this normal? I guess I'm getting worried because my app is still not "complete" and it's mid-Sep and I have average stats so the earlier the better my chances, right?

So turns out there is a separate "submit" button for the prereqs portion of the supplemental app. -_-
How late in the game is it for your application to be complete mid-September, and how long does it take for them to make a decision (rejection or II)?

I'm actually wondering that too because I have a 30 and I hope they're not teasing me by giving me a secondary invite, only to reject me post-secondary or post-interview BECAUSE of my score.

Did you get a complete email if you didn't submit the prereqs?

No...and I should have been suspicious way sooner. I think I saw that the secondary + fee was received so I assumed that also included the prereqs since that is part of the secondary. I also that the prereqs = transcript.

Ah I see. I still think you should apply though especially since you already paid. Just make sure you complete you prereqs before the time expires on when they allow you to submit

Wow what a rapid turnaround! Congrats! Are you an IS applicant with superstar stats and ECs??

I'm IS, I wouldn't say superstar. I have a 3.9+/35+ but dismal VR (<9). I'm in a well-known Americorps program and have okay research/clinical experience from college.

I caught it and applied. I think you have 40-45 days to complete the secondary (have everything in...LOR, fee etc.).

When I called admissions they reassured me that it was not late at all because they were still processing primaries etc. I wasn't buying it that much, but that is probably because I'm on SDN and people have gone through interviews already.

Super nervous about MMI...

Complete: 9/6/13, II: 9/16/13, Scheduled: 10/18/13

Do later dates really open up? Grabbed the 18th as it was the only thing showing for the next 6 months.

question for everyone: does davis work on the weekends or something? some invites and some interview waitlist status' are popping up for people on the weekends
