2013-2014 University of California - Los Angeles (Geffen) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They essentially are non rolling admission. But I think you meant to say rolling.
And as far as interviewing OOSers go, I remember reading on last year's thread that someone who got information from admissions did say that they generally interview ISers first but not exclusively so.

Yeah that tends to be the case in terms of interviewing in staters and local LA applicants.

Interview invite today! IS, LM 74, Complete mid August

Can anyone who's interviewed here give a brief outline of the day? When do the MMI's generally occur (morning/afternoon)?

Also, the UCLA technically rolling admissions?

Once you schedule your interview the UCLA staff will fill you in on your day

Congrats! Their II information isn't listed on the MSAR so I can't help you there. Maybe it's on the US News website? I would assume around 500-600 interviews for a class of 170.

Would you mind sharing your stats and whether you're IS or OOS? Thanks.

II for Geffen a few days ago! Complete early August. LizzyM=74. I am OOS but I go to school in California, so I am not sure if I am local or not..

I've heard they interview 700ish? Don't remember where I read that though or what the breakdown between OOS and IS.

Can anyone comment on how the MMIs were? (Not specifics, but if it was harder or easier than expected). With all my holds, I am beginning to think I am a terrible interviewee.

Congrats! Have you interviewed at a school with MMI yet? I was terrified of the UCLA interview and definitely thought I blew the MMI but now here I am, 3 years into the DGSOM program! Some of my classmates have expressed the same sentiment. The only thing I did to prepare was skim wikipedia medical ethics. The interview is honestly just about being yourself, so be confident, calm, and cool.

Come on Geffen, show me some love! Me love you long time.

Oh and congrats to those getting interviews! Hopefully I get a chance to join you!

Woot woot!!! Get it! Congrats!

Are there any interviews next week? I'm on nights right now so it'd be fun to stop by for a tour, for old time's sake.

Anyone interviewing Nov 20th? So excited! How is everyone prepping?

Can anyone please let me know around when the interview day ends? (Doesn't say so in the invitation email). Looking at a 6:00pm flight out of LAX and wondering if it's doable. Thanks!

It depends if you are the morning and afternoon session. You should contact the admissions office and ask.

I will be interviewing two days before Thanksgiving!

This will actually be my 3rd MMI...

1st was 2 years ago at UC Davis.... rejection 👎

2nd was last month at Cincinnati.... acceptance! 👍

So I'm feeling way better now about the format :cow: ... I hope to see some of you there

How long did it take to hear back about when you would be interviewing after you put in the request? It's been four days for me and I haven't heard anything. I requested a January date so that might explain the delay..?

I put mine in Wednesday last week and haven't heard back yet; it probably feels longer because of the weekend though

It took about two days fro me to get a date back from them.

I would just call because that may be a little far for them to have an exact answer. Nice thing about interviewing in LA in January is that you will not be freezing.

Just FYI in case it hasn't been answered in this thread yet: UCLA does not offer student hosting for IS applicants (at least not this year).

Now then, perhaps someone more familiar with the area can help me. I have family in the West Covina area, and I'm scheduled for a Wednesday afternoon session. Given LA traffic, would I be able to make it UCLA campus in time leaving from there or should I just go for the hotel? And if it is possible to reach campus from West Covina, about how long would it take on a Wednesday morning?

Thanks!

So we need to send in our official transcripts once we've been invited to interview? My letter says to "please send in your official transcripts asap"

ii!!!! complete 8/09
absolute dream school!!!
lizzym70
not disadvantaged
SICKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just looked up the %accept from the interview pool. It's like 50% accept if you've gotten an II from OOS. If received II from IS, then 33% accepted. Pretty low! Part of that might be explained by the fact that UCLA interviews a much bigger pool of applicants than other UC's.

how many people do they interview? (it's not listed on the msar for some reason)

Not true. I am IS and I had a host for yesterday. My host told me a hosting system has been setup. For me, I simply called the admissions to get a host.

Anyone complete after 9/26 get an ii?

I emailed admissions and I got a reply saying that their student hosts can only provide one night housing for OOS students, and that they don't have enough students volunteering to host the large number of IS interviewers. Maybe I should call instead though....

thanks for the responses! I should probably call them soon..

Can you let me know what they say? I've been waiting for a while now too... I have a couple of restrictions too because I am not going to be in LA from mid Dec to early Jan.

Just wondering where you got this from? I remember it being the other way around from somewhere--33% OOS and 50% IS, but I might have remembered matriculation rates. I can't keep all these numbers straight anymore!

US News and World Report.

Don't worry about it till after matriculation.

Yes you should call instead.

So I called admissions just now and they let me know that I haven't been contacted yet precisely because I requested a January interview date. They said that they haven't finalized those dates yet, but that I would probably get an email towards the end of November with a confirmation. Basically, they're more than willing to accommodate your plans if you have any!

On a similar note, does anyone know if interviewing later (Nov vs. Jan) affects our chances? I don't think it does, since the website says that all decisions come out in February, but some input would help.

My primary was verified 9/26 but I still haven't heard anything back from UCLA about a secondary. Do they do silent rejections? Is it worth calling the office to check the status of my application? I'm afraid they'll just tell me to look on the status check page they have lol. UCLA has received my letters on 10/11 though

I emailed the admissions office today to inquire of what they meant when they asked for transcripts as soon as possible (in the interview scheduling page). I recevied a response that said, " you should update your file in the near future . It you are accepted, then you will be required to resubmit an official transcript. Admissions" - so I guess it works like every other school where they require a official transcipt after acceptance. But does UCLA want you to update your file? Is that what its meant when they ask for a transcript as soon as possible? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hi,
I also was verified on 9/26 and received a secondary on 9/27.Was complete on 10/15 and now into waiting... So you could possibly call them
My stats: IS,27/3.73/strong research and EC

As mentioned above, UCLA mostly starts with IS interviews, correct? So would it be little early to send an update letter/letter of interest to the school, coming from Washington?

They said not to worry about it. I think it's just an error that they haven't bothered fixing. Submit transcripts if accepted and matriculating.

Supposedly the difference from November till January is non-existent for admission.
