The power of an update email!

Secondary Invite!
IS

Did you have a lot to update or was it just 1 thing? I'm debating on sending one... really the only update I have is I've been volunteering at a hospice.

have the invites been coming via email or phone call? congrats guys 🙂

It was 1 thing but it was a pretty major thing (research pubs). I think they help because I sent it yesterday and I got secondary this afternoon.

Are you talking about interview or secondary? The secondaries come by email.

They probably decided to invite you already. They have ALOT of applications, and I doubt that in the course of 1 day, the update was forwarded to the admissions committee and that they were able to get to it so quickly that it influenced their decision. Props on the pub though!

Anyone know the time period between submitting a secondary and getting an interview invite / rejection?

What are my chances with a 3.58 sci gpa, 3.66 cumulative gpa and 31 mcat. What are my chances here?

Difficult to say. What are your extracurricular activities and life experiences? Do you have strong letters of recommendation? UCLA looks at the applicant as a whole and doesn't necessarily focus on stats alone. I know that's not the answer you are looking for but it's the truth.

fixed it

Does anyone know if UCLA goes in order of completion?

Not sure 🙁

But as far as I know, UCLA doesn't send out pre-secondary rejections until like January, so maybe they come back to applications throughout the cycle?

If its anything like my last application, UCLA rejections are sent via snail mail. Unless they've changed it within the last two years, I would still keep hope alive until January at least.

I don't think so. I was complete mid-September and I also got the II on October 10.

Hmm. I was complete 8/05, and I've received no correspondence from them :/
Really hoping for an interview here, would be a dream come true.

Last Friday my status page updated saying that my letters of recommendation have been received, is this a sign that a secondary could be coming my way soon or does that happen to everyone?

well they don't want your letters prior to sending you a secondary. sooooo no idea.

Thanks! Do you know if the MS1s or MS2s will be available for questions on interview day?

Chances are your tour guide will be an MS1. Then there are usually various class students that will drop by throughout the day.

They scheduled me for next week. eek!

Does anyone have any advice for travel? I'm thinking about flying in the day-of, and flying back the same night. Is the flyaway shuttle a good option to and from LAX?

Well it depends if you are the afternoon or morning session

Does UCLA tend to interview IS first? I know that they show no preference but just wondering.

And talk about short notice. UW is the same way ... had my interview one week after. Luckily I live in Seattle ...

Mine is scheduled for noon. Do you know around when the interview should end?

I would guess that they are going to tell you to expect to be on campus till 5 ish. But I did the morning session and it was from 8-1:30/2.

No, I interviewed in October and there were people from the East coast there.

Okay thanks Juan!

And do you know about the flyaway shuttle? Is it a reliable option?

I know about the flyaway. It is reliable. It picks up at the hour, every hour near UCLA to head to LAX. Then it leaves LAX at terminal 1 at the hour, every hour and then it makes its round of stops at each terminal.

Awesome. Thanks a lot for your quick replies! 🙂

Your welcome. You should also consider the housing option with a current student. For one, it's free and for two, you can get an insight to what it's like as a UCLA med student and ask other questions.

Juan, what have you seen in terms of secondaries for those who have been verified since 8/14 or arounds. Level with me, my chances are slim eh?

Honestly I don't pay attention to who/when people get secondaries. Sorry.

i meant more along the lines of is that too long of a wait to be holding out hope for one, but got your point, thanks

Oh, is that what were asking? Well I think you should give up hope when you get an official rejection letter, and not anytime sooner. For one, you never know what can happen and for two, it will save you some neuroticism.

Really don't understand why UCLA doesn't like me...reapp here, CA In-State. Submitted AMCAS on Day 1. Got secondaries from every UC both last year and this year, except from UCLA. They didn't send me a secondary last year and this year. LizzyM: ~72. WHY?!?

The school I want to attend the most is also the only school I am not getting a secondary from...

Did anyone have their letters marked as "received" prior to getting a secondary invite?

Try and not beat yourself up over this. You have very little control on some of these outcomes. And if you do need to vent then this is not the thread to do so.

Disagree. Vent all you want, buddy.

Juan, respectfully, disagree. This thread is for all aspects of the application process.
