2013-2014 University of California - San Francisco Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sorry for this ignorant question, but is there an easy way for me to get to a user's MDApps page by clicking on their name? I don't even know what MDApps is btw haha

Only if you are on SDN on a cpu bc the mobile app doesn't have the feature. The link would be below on the sidebar underneath their username if you're viewing one of their posts.

MDApps is a page that allows ppl to track their application cycle and give others info to reference to use in their own application timeline. It's pretty nifty 😀

Just received my post-secondary rejection. Good luck to all other applicants.

Sorry to hear that there's been bad news for people.... Especially member above me, your stats are beautiful fellow Cal grad 🙂.

If folks don't mind sharing, have there been any pre or post secondary rejections for those verified by amcas on or after 8/14?

im curious too. verified 8/30, no secondary, no rejection yet

II tonight around 8PM PT. I was complete on 8/16, after a 1 week turnaround.

GPA that is on the lower end of their accepted range, 35, relatively non-traditional

I feel so honored to be invited to interview here. It's my dream school! It's practically in my backyard!

Verified this morning (9/24) at 8 AM and received secondary from UCSF this evening around 8 PM.

I think they just forgot about me.. complete for more than a month now.

I received both the notification email and my secondary on 7/15, turned it in and was complete the next day. Nothing since then. Here's to hoping no news is good news 😳

Omg. II. First one.

!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously someone pinch me.

Thank you!!! Ahhhhhh so excited.

PS everyone I am not a stats awesome individual. There's hope for those of us without 4.0/42s to get interviewed at a place like ucsf apparently 🙂 i

Congrats! Do you mind sharing when you submitted your secondary? What about your stats?

Thanks!

Complete 8/14, non-trad, non-URM, unique-ish life story, low uGPA, high post bacc GPA; leveling out at a tenth or so above their 10th percentile, MCAT nearing 90th percentile, first author publication and poster presentation, a couple second authors, volunteer medic and a year of management at a free clinic. Too many more details and someone might name me 🙂

Good luck to everyone else!

Congrats to everyone. I hope im next. You are actually the average MCAT they accept. Range is 30-39 with a median of 35. I also wouldn't worry about stats too much. They obviously don't care that much because they gave me a secondary as an OOS applicant with a 32 and an 8 in VR. Stats are the easiest thing to screen for so it doesn't make any sense to give a secondary if they are going to reject based on stats after you submit it.

Does anyone here know the % acceptance rate of those invited to interview (IS)?

just got an email saying having i have a status update and I went on the website to see only a pdf that I can't even open.
I'm assuming I got rejected because I didn't even get a secondary invite 🙁
sighhhhh

I got the same email right now as well without being sent a secondary The PDF didn't open using Google Chrome for me, but it opened when I used Internet Explorer. You can try that or Firefox, as they advised in the email. Here is the cheery notice below:

"We greatly appreciate your interest in attending the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. I am sorry to inform you that the Committee on Admissions has decided not to advance your application for 2014.

We have come to this decision reluctantly. It is based on the Committee’s review of your AMCAS application, including your academic record, outside activities and personal statement. This adverse decision does not mean that we believe that you are unqualified to enter this medical school on either personal or scholarly criteria. It simply reflects the intense competition for admission here. We have a limited number of available positions, and because of this we must turn away a large number of admirable people, most of whom go on to successful careers elsewhere.

I sincerely hope that you will be able to attend medical school in 2014 and am sorry that we cannot accommodate you at UCSF."

Womp womp!

Sorry guys 🙁 When were y'all complete? I'm sure you will both have better luck elsewhere! :luck:

They never received a secondary so they were never complete.

I apologize for my poor phrasing; I meant AMCAS completion date. I have not received a secondary either, and was wondering where UCSF is in the pre-secondary rejections.

That is a very pleasant rejection letter. 👍 Stay classy UCSF.

Got it. Sorry if my response may have come across the wrong way. It was a little short.

Well just got rejected by my dream school and still no word from other schools. Well time to bring out the tub of ice cream this weekend.

Oos post secondary rejection. Lm 75. Complete late July. Over a dozen other interviews makes it easier to take.

Ps good luck to everyone else!

Oh well, at least I know I'm not dreaming 'cause the past couple of days started to feel like a dream 🙂

+1. It'd be a good place to be, but then again, it'd be a good place for 5,000 other applicants. Guess they gotta make some cuts.

First rejection of the season! In the same boat as Captain Sisko. Bummer though...I heard UCSF is a great place, and I would've loved to have ended up in SF. Congrats and good luck to everyone who's moving forward!

so it seems like sf does things in order.

if i was verified in early/mid August and haven't gotten a secondary, at this point should i be resigning myself to a rejection? probably this week?

I think a couple people have received secondaries after waiting that long. You should hear something soon either way.

I was verified end of July no secondary and no rejection yet hmm

I was verified 8/11 and no secondary or rejection either. I'm not expecting much, but its weird having heard nothing.

Verified more than a month ago - same boat - OOS.

I was verifies 7/31 and got the "we have your primary email" for a while. I finally got the rejection PDF sometime late last week. There's people who have gotten late secondaries, but if it's not past the 12 week review period, there's still hope? 😛

Anyone else interviewing tomorrow? Good luck and I'll see you there. 🙂

Rejected pre-secondary. OOS, LizzyM ~74. Primary received 8/1. Good luck to those still in the game!

Hey everyone,

We just had our first set of interviewees last week. Just wanted to wish everyone good luck in this long process.

It's almost as if they know... Pre-secondary rejection today around 5:30 PST

IS, avg stats, strong clinical experience, but weak research. Good luck to all other applicants!

i wake up this morning and put on my UCSF hoodie because i didnt have anything else to wear. then i think to myself, "at the rate theyre processing applications, i might as well be rejected." at 8:15pm, i get the status update email and im thinking "here comes the rejection PDF... the ONE time i wear my UCSF hoodie, i get rejected."

turns out i got a secondary instead!! :soexcited:

good luck to everyone!!

Logging in after that status update email was so difficult.

Interview invite!! I'm so honored :biglove:

Just FYI to everyone: The interview invite is just on the status page - there's no PDF to open. I know some people were concerned about not being able to open a file to see what was inside.
