Just got the Wait List letter 🙁
Interviewed 1/13. Pretty bummed. Even though I'm OOS, this was my first choice school. Guess it's time to write LOIs...

Aw, sorry to hear that! I know the feeling. I hope you ultimately hear some good news from them.

Do you know if people interviewing late (jan) are interviewing for waitlist spots at maryland? did the dean mention anything regarding that at the interview? my interview is mid-march, but i thought all med schools were supposed to offer all of their available spots by mid march.

I don't think so. I think I've read a few posts of people who interviewed around or maybe even on my interview date who got acceptances.

The dean didn't mention anything to address that on interview day. Sorry I couldn't be of more help! Either way good luck on your interview!

Sorry for the consecutive posting! Did anyone on the waitlist get a Certiphi Background Check email after getting the waitlist letter?

I just called the admissions office and spoke to someone who assured me that those people placed on the pre-interview hold before Thanksgiving are currently being reviewed and interview invites are still being extended. The last interview date is at the end of March (no specific date given). Also, if you've sent the admissions office an update and haven't received any correspondence, don't worry because this is normal. She said that they receive everything but get such a huge volume of e-mails that they are not able to personally confirm them. Hope this helps some of you guys on here. I'm still holding out hope until the very end! Good luck to everybody!

Hi Everyone!

I'm new to SDN...this is my first post so please bear with me. I was accepted back in October (yay!) and officially withdrew from my other acceptances last week. I know this is a bit premature as interview invitations are still going out (good luck!) but if anyone is interested in rooming together, send me a PM! I called around to a few places in the area and it appears there are already waitlists starting for the summer (June/July)!

Also, I'm not sure if this helps anyone, but there was about a 3-4 week turnaround between my interview and acceptance...that was at the beginning of the cycle, though. Additionally, I had two faculty interviewers and they were both super laid-back...a few typical interview questions and the rest really conversational.
Sending good vibes to everyone who hasn't heard back yet!:claps:

how about the last week of march? feel like I have no chance I guess. on hold since november
I just got one yesterday! I only saw two more interview days available on the 17th and 19th

I was complete way back in September, been waiting for months. Don't give up until you get the official rejection.

Congrats! Were you ever put on hold?

Thanks! Strangely not, there was an error processing my application. I chose not to submit two of my letters of recommendation, the Maryland application system doesn't recognize when you cancel letters on AMCAS. Just got everything worked out about a month ago... right in the nick of time it appears.

Woah!! There's already a waitlist?! I was gonna hold off until May to call since I thought they wouldn't receive renting applications until later! Where did you call if you don't mind me asking? Like apartment complexes?

When they mentioned a waitlist I was like "Wait, what?! It's only February!" I called the Redwood, Zenith, Sail Cloth, and Camden Court about two bedroom units and was informed the waitlist was open now because summer is the busiest time of the year. However, since tenants do not have to give notice of their plans until 60 days out (and the apartment managers won't know for sure what's available until then), I think they assume everyone is going to renew their lease, which is quite unlikely.

Just withdrew from my mid-March interview slot, so hopefully it goes to someone here!

Interviewed 1/27 and found out I'm on the waitlist today 🙁 I absolutely love the school though, so best of luck to the rest of you still interviewing! And hopefully the waitlist moves quickly haha

Hi, I am also a part of the entering class of 2018 this fall. I'm pretty new to sdn too so I'm not sure why but sdn wouldn't let me PM you. I am also looking for a roommate. If you can PM me that would be awesome.

Can anyone living in the baltimore area give recommendations on apartments near the med school? There don't seem to be a lot of conclusive reviews online....

When I interviewed it sounds like a few students try to rent or buy rowhomes in the Ridgley's Delight area. If you're looking for apartments, the Southern Management website (they manage a bunch of high-rise apartment buildings in Baltimore) is a good place to start. I've lived in one of their buildings for the last two years. Although they are not the cheapest places you can find, they are convenient to rent and the amenities are nice. Many of them are within walking distance to U of M. I live in Charles Towers and when I interviewed it was a 15-minute walk to the campus in the snow, although it sounds like my building is on the farther end of where people live. PM me if you want specifics on buildings in the area (I currently live in downtown Baltimore).

I am assuming Maryland is done giving out interviews. I'm just not sure why they haven't sent me a rejection email yet. :-/

Last week, apparently they sent out letters a month ago but most people did not receive them, so they called me last week and said they were calling other people too checking to see if they got their letters

They aren't done yet. I think they are just a little behind schedule due to the weather in Baltimore. They had to reschedule interviews on three different occasions, so don't lose hope just yet.

I know this because my 3/3 interview was rescheduled for 3/24 due to inclement weather.

Got an email about the prematriculation summer program. Due to work I probably won't be doing this. Anyone planning on it?

Thanks I hope so! This is my number one choice so I'm really hoping for some IS love! Congrats on the interview and good luck 🙂

When is a good time for wait listed applicants to send a letter of intent? I've been accepted to several other schools but I would really like to go to Maryland since the COA will be less than half the COA than my other options. I know that letters of intent usually are no big factor but I practically grew up next to the medical school and all my volunteering efforts in college have been towards helping the under served in Baltimore so I really think my letter of intent would be substantial.

I don't know when the best time necessarily is, but personally I would send it in either ASAP (maybe you just found out about your WL position?) or wait closer to the May 15th deadline, as I'm sure that's when the majority of WL movement happens. Just the 2 cents of a fellow applicant!

You won't get an email... the rejection comes via snail mail. :/

Do you mind sharing when? Thanks so much!

Does anyone know when we will hear back for acceptances or rejections? I interviewed near the end of February, which is pretty recent, but I'm getting antsy.

I was waitlisted, but I heard back just over 4 weeks from my interview date. I also believe they said the adcom meets on Mondays (maybe every other?), and my letter was dated on a Tuesday haha. Best of luck to you!!

Anyone know how late in to the game people will hear about interviews/ if they are adding any extra days due to all of the crazy winter weather the Mid-Atlantic has been facing?
