2013-2014 University of Maryland Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got the waitlist snail mail today, interviewed early November. I thought interviews both went pretty well.
I got waitlist mail today as well but I interview mid-November. I'm OOS so I'm not surprised. Anyone know if UMD is receptive to updates?

Do you happen to remember your exact interview date?

I was recently accepted by my state school (AZ)--should I withdraw my interview offer in January? Is University of Maryland worth skipping?

Up to you honestly. If money/time is not an issue to you, I'd say go to the interview

Is anyone else having trouble filling this application out? Most of the fields aren't working...

They don't interview many candidates (like most state schools) so if you think you would like UMD more than AZ then definitely go. They don't interview for the waitlist. I wish the school was P/F but oh well.

Accepted yesterday!!!

For anyone waiting, it took me 8 weeks to receive my decision

That's awesome! That long of a wait must have been excruciating, but I'm sure the result made it worth it!

I still haven't heard a peep since I got put into the regular pool in mid-September after applying early decision... So I'm not on hold or rejected and I haven't been sent an II but it's been 12 weeks. I sent in an update letter after calling the admissions office but they didn't have anything to say about why the long silence. Anyone have any ideas?

I also applied to the MS/MD program so I'm wondering if that's delayed any kind of decision on my application. Any one here apply to the MS/MD program and hear back from UMD with some sort of communication?

Any MD/PhD applicants in here? Any idea when they stop sending out interview invites? I was complete a long, long time ago and I haven't heard back at all. Is it a silent rejection at this point?

I was complete in early Aug. and received an II about four weeks later but I won't be interviewing until mid Jan '14. You might call the office and ask.

Hey everyone,

For those who haven't heard anything yet in regards to interviews--I just received my MSTP interview this Monday. Keep your chin up! There is still hope!
Stats: OOS (KY), 31, 4.0, submitted 8/14.

Much love!

They are still looking at applications. I sent an update and within a week I received an invitation to interview. Best of luck!

Hi,

I wasn't marked complete until Oct. 11 and received an interview invite on Nov. 19. They (at least for me) assign you an interview date and so I interviewed earlier this month. Either way, I wouldn't take it as a silent rejection because they are still in the middle of reviewing applications.

Good luck!

I interviewed back on November 13th and haven't heard back yet. The website says they make every effort to notify within 4-6 weeks. Tomorrow will be exactly 6 weeks but of course I'm sure decisions will not be sent on Christmas day. By chance has anyone here who interviewed around the same date received a decision yet? If so, when and what?

Good luck to all!

Thanks

Has anyone heard anything from Maryland yet? I expect that release of decisions will be slightly delayed due to the holidays, but I interviewed on the first week of December and I'm hoping to hear good news soon 🙂

Interviewed mid-November and I haven't heard anything yet. There was a poster who has heard his decision and he said he interviewed around the same time... I guess it's just a waiting game now.

For people accepted, have you guys gotten any information or updates since then? Anyway good luck to everyone else, I haven't heard a peep from the school since I got accepted in late Oct./early Nov. so that probably means they still have a long way to go to fill the incoming class.

what kind of stuff do you expect to hear about?
also, on a related note -- did you turn in the medical paperwork? I just realized 8 weeks is quickly approaching...

medical paperwork? I thought we only had to turn in our acceptance of their offer within 2 weeks?

I had medical paperwork (immunization and medical history form) in the packet with my acceptance letter that said it needed to be turned in within 8 weeks of receipt, which freaked me out. Seemed a bit early tbh.. I'm going to call tomorrow I think. I'm assuming I'm not the only one who got the health forms?

Let us know what they say! I totally forgot about those forms!

I also got those health forms- but have yet to do the TB testing required. *sigh*

I thought we didn't have to turn in the medical forms till we were sure we were going there? I accepted the offer but am not a 100% sure if that's where I'll end up...still waiting on a few schools.

Yeah this was my first thought, as well. I'm just going by the bolded/underlined words in the letter though lol. Seems weird that they put a deadline on it rather than just needing paperwork before orientation, or when transcripts are due in July. I'm going to ask today.

Yea let us all know what they say. I completely forgot about that actually.

Well I guess I was expecting to hear about financial aid and such. FAFSA is due in March, right? Anyway, I think that 8 week deadline is a suggestion. I did the medical paperwork, but when I called to check up on it she said they were still verifying paperwork for present students, not incoming students.

For the priority deadline, I believe. Found this page with the list of dates: http://www.umaryland.edu/fin/prospective_students/

so any word on the medical paperwork?

Not yet, called the number in the letter but no one answered. Their answering system says they'll call back, so I left a message..but will call Monday if I don't hear today.

With the snow and craziness of today I'd be surprised if admissions was actually in the office today. Thanks for calling though!

Yeah I called the student health office actually. But there is a liberal leave policy today, so I wouldn't be surprised either. I know I didn't want to trek through the snow to work!

I actually called the admissions office on Friday just to see if they had a voicemail stating their holiday schedule, but it only gave their regular times. Since I can't find anything on the SOM website, I'm hoping that they start up on Monday with the other professional programs at UMB.

I asked someone in the admissions office and they said that the medical history form is due 8 weeks from the letter of acceptance, or as soon as we can get it to them.

Looks like I'll be going for a TB test...

Thanks! TB test for me too!!

Thanks for asking! Ran out of time before having to head to the airport to call again....and now stuck in the airport with a 5 hour delay. yay!

guys, you should not freak out about the health forms. I got accepted on oct 16 and still have not turn it in yet. I remember calling them a week after i got accepted and the lady told me that as long as it is turn in before i matriculate, that should suffice. So as it stands now, i have not turn it in and will probably do that weeks before i matriculate, provided i do matriculate.

After sending back the reservation form and whatever other form it was in the acceptance packet, has anyone heard anything else from the school?

EDIT: Just scrolled up. But no one else has received any confirmation since then, yes? I'm being paranoid about it being lost in the mail over the holidays haha
