Congrats!! So excited for you! I did research at UMD this summer and got a great rec from a SOM prof so I'm hoping that I'll at least get an interview! My app is still processing though =P

Anyone know what day of the week Maryland does app reviews? I think I heard Friday but I'm not quite sure..

Congratulations to everyone that got accepted, i too interviewed 2 Fridays ago and im just wondering if they sent you an acceptance email or if it was through the snail mail? I haven't heard anything back from them just yet.

Just snail mail.

Apparently last year Dr. Foxwell called a lot of accepted students, so they might do it that way too.

Congrats you guys! So excited for you! Did you get an email at all with the acceptance, or just the snail mail package? Also, did your status change online? Interviewed last week and this is my top choice, so I would appreciate any input!

here you go....

I'm considering applying to UMD but I would probably submit secondary and be complete sometime in November. Is that too late? Do late completions get interviews at UMD?

Rejected pre- interview by mail. IS 37/3.85 complete late July

I know a current student who submitted their secondary right before the deadline, got interviewed in March and then accepted in April or May. If your stats are competitive, I say you should go for it.

Anyone know if the committee meets weekly or biweekly? Also, I believe dr foxwell said we should hear back in 2-3 weeks right even though the website says 4-6 weeks..

Basically the same. IS Pre-interview rejection 3.8/37. I have a sinking feeling that I'm royally ****ed.

That is some high stats. Maybe u right in the sense that they think you probably not going to go if they accept you. But with that being said, my stats were nt equally far off and I kno some friends who had similar stats and got in. Have you look at your EC and LOR? It could also be related to that.

Maryland is without question a top 50 school. Arguably in the top 30. Good schools don't do this. I don't think bad schools even do this.

Was something missing in either of your applications?

I'm IS for UMD as well with no interview, complete mid august. 3.9/38. Don't think anything is missing from my app as I have several top 20 interviews. I think with the large pool, they can't interview and accept every competitive applicant. That's the way things are and that's why no one applies to just a few "match" schools.

Yes same situation multiple top interviews so don't think anything was missing.

Yeah, I agree. FWIW I sent them an update and got my interview about 2 weeks later. Good luck but I doubt you will need it with all of the interviews you have!

Oh nice, I sent an update about a week ago.. Hopefully that gets the ball moving. Grats on your successful reapplication! I'm a reapplicant myself, so I'm looking for some love wherever I can find it haha.

Thanks. It is a major relief. I hope you get that Michigan acceptance!

Apparently last year acceptances for early Oct started coming out around this time. Keep an eye on the mail this week!

According to last years thread, I think early October interviewers hear back next week.

That was mid-Oct. Last year's thread says that Oct 8 interviewees heard back 10/24. Fingers crossed.

anyone think early october interviewees will hear back via mail today? :scared:

Anyone know if Maryland sends waitlists via email or mail? And for those accepted, was your Maryland mail in a big envelope or a regular sized envelope?

Big envelope, I knew I got in before I even got to the mailbox because I saw the packet 😀

Does anyone know how strict they are with letters of recommendation? I'm realizing now that I may not have fulfilled the requirements for them and it says to write a letter to admissions and ask permission, but I'm not actually sure if this is necessary in my case

Nothing in the mail today 🙁

Looks like I'll have to wait at least another week

Accepted today!!!! :soexcited::soexcited::soexcited:

Interviewed first week of oct

Omg first acceptance!!!

I wasn't home to get the mail and my parents thought a packet from UMD College Park was from the med school =\

Waitlisted yesterday via mail. This was my top choice so I'm super bummed

:-( I hope you come off the waitlist soon and are accepted! Time for an update/letter of intent... let them know that it is your top choice. You can do it! I am rooting for you! 🙂

Maybe you shouldn't have put in your MD apps how you hated everything about the school except that your parents would pay for it...

What does that have to do with the school's decision? It's not like the have the spare time to go through SDN, guess my interview date based on my posts/mdapps, and read every single detail of it and match it to my file. If they did this for all their interviewers, It would take them till next year to start sending out decisions.

And I don't like Maryland mainly because of it's grading system (A,B,C,D) since that pits every student against each other. Also, having lived in Baltimore for >17 years, I can tell you with confidence that it's definitely not a good place to live, especially the area the med school is at.

But just cause I don't like doesn't mean it can't be a top choice. As many people have said, the best med school is the cheapest med school.

Sorry to hear that Osprey! Hang in there and wish you luck on your other schools!

Thanks. Congrats to you though!

Thanks. Apparently, nobody got off the waitlist last year at UMD so a letter of intent for another school I'm waitlisted at would probably be a wiser decision.

Maybe they could tell in the interview that you don't love the school?

Anyways good luck and don't give up hope!
