People who are going to second look do we know the dress code? Are people going to dinner and the show case if there scheduke allows? My inclination is to go to everything I can but just curious... Also any financial aid packages yet?

From my understand its business casual with an emphasis on the casual. People who went last year apparently wore jeans. Basically don't wear a suit and don't wear sweats.

I received my Financial Aid package yesterday (April 10th)

Hey guys!

I am a current accepted student at P&S and will be matriculating here. If I am required to withdraw from a class because of a family emergency, and only graduate with one of the two majors I listed on AMCAS because of this reason, do you think it would affect my matriculation here in any way? This would be my first ever W. I looked at the requirements link listed in the admissions tab, and I have completed all the requirements that appear there.

Columbia has always been my dream school, and having something like this happen so soon after getting the great news of acceptance is really unfortunate.

I appreciate all your input, and I thank you for your time!

i would be shocked if anyone cared

Question for current students: do most students do research the summer after M1 and how easy is it to get funding to do so?

Not current student, but at revisit they said that most people do research during M1 summer, but you don't have to - some people do work abroad, some people just take the summer off, but from the "get involved in research" mini-seminar I went to there, it seems that it's really easy to get a position. I'm not sure if they cover housing or give some sort of stipend, though (they could, I just didn't pay very close attention lol).

So I know the big deadline for holding only one acceptance is april 30th. When does waitlist movement actually start though? Do they start calling people literally on May 1st?

I imagine it takes time / meetings to figure out how many wait listed people to call and perhaps what "kind" of candidates they want to call.

But whooooooo knows!

As long as we withdraw from every school except Columbia, our intent to matriculate is assumed, correct? Did anyone send an e-mail confirming their intent?

I asked about this and here's what they said:

We do not require a deposit, although you can speak to the financial planning office regarding a payment plan. As long as you don't withdraw from us, you will keep your place in the class of 2019. There is some paperwork to be completed on the acceptance portal regarding financial aid, student health, etc. that need to be completed. We will be sending more information in the coming months.

Please don't hesitate to reach back out to us if you have any further questions.

does anyone know when wait list movement will really start? i.e. what day should i be next to my phone to accept my acceptance? : )

Anyone know the waitlist acceptance numbers from last year?

I believe during the interview day someone mentioned that ~1/3 of the class is from the waitlist. That seems a little high, but I don't think the number is insignificant (hence why they waitlist so many people ugh)

There was an info sheet floating around that columbia published that showed 313 total accepts. If we assume they accepted a bit over 200 initially, then about 100 come from the waitlist. This also makes sense if we assume slightly above a 50% yield.

Don't have any exact numbers for WL -> acceptance on hand, but here's some of the info compiled over this and last year's cycle:

Stats (link to numbers from 2013-14 cycle including GPA/MCAT and demographic info)
~7800 applications
~1000 interviewed
325 accepted
170 enrolled

Of those interviewed, as per P&S alum mmmcdowe, ~200 are outright accepted, 600-800 are waitlisted, and ~100 are accepted off of the waitlist.

EDIT: found exact quote.
About 200 people are accepted right away and a 100 waitlist spots are offerred (but some of those people don't end up coming hence the class typically being about more than half initially accepted and less than half waitlist), about 600-800 people are on the waitlist.

Good stuff here thanks for posting that!

I was poking around last year's thread to see when WL movement was, but it wasn't really active and just kind of fell off in the summer. Also, I wonder how many people stay on the WL? Good luck to everyone!

I creeped on the fb group for 2019. there's over 200 members and according to hellanutella's stats above only 170 should enroll. hopefully people just forgot to leave the group.
There are some current M1s in that group too, I believe!

Don't know what the class makeup in the Columbia FB group is like, but my school's FB group has over 50 MS1-4s in there and a handful of other folks who I know personally have committed to other schools.

Ah, Wolv beat me to it.

I called them. They said it hasn't started yet but will "soon"... Not sure what that means but I'm getting anxious here...
Maybe that meant later last week? I admit I stalked and there were some recent adds that are incoming MS1's. I'm on a layover abroad so I have time like this to kill haha..

from past threads, it looks like not a lot of people come back to the thread to say they've been accepted?

but you'd think at least one person would say something lol- considering the phone call last week from mattg, maybe movement hasn't actually started yet

looks like ppl have been recently added to the facebook group that are NOT current students. I would assume that means its moved and we havent gotten calls yet :/

The movement hasn't started yet according to the admissions office.

They told you that explicitly? When I called, I got a very cryptic answer along the lines of 'we are not at liberty to give that information.'

Yeah, they said something along the lines of we haven't started yet but are going to do so soon.
