2014-2015 Drexel University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
My portal account says "No decision is currently available. Please continue checking this website for updates."

It previously said something like "committee member is reviewing my application". I interviewed in October. Thought on what this means?
mine says the same thing... maybe they finally discussed us and now we're on hold? hope not though and that this is just a glitch in the system or something!

Does anyone know if a status that says "a decision has been reached" means waitlist whereas "a final decision has reached" would mean acceptance or rejection? Is that how it works? Or perhaps I am reading into this too much

Just so everyone knows Drexel receives more the 12,000 out of state applications and a little more than 1,000 in state applications. I am OOS and I just received an interview invite for February. How hard are the interviews? I am really nervous.

My interview here was fairly simple. Everyone has one faculty interview and one student interview (over lunch). My faculty interview lasted around 45 minutes, although others in my interview group had shorter interviews. My student interview was super informal.

. My student interview was super informal.
While the students are often less formal than the faculty, remember that they are just as much a part of the committee. Just because they are lax isn't an excuse to drop your guard (i.e. no vulgarity, still be respectful/composed).

Mine changed from "a committee member is reviewing my application" to "Your file is currently under review by the admissions committee." I thought normally you have to go to the latter one first before being discussed to be put on hold?

Any idea if Drexel is receptive to in the area emails?

I remember reading from past years' threads that Drexel does not take ITA emails

@waazaaa yes mine now says that as well, but for a brief period today (probably only an hour or so) all it said was that a decision had not yet been reached (without referencing the admissions committee at all). My guess (totally a guess) is that it probably just switched to that right before the other, and that hopefully our applications are being discussed at the committee meeting today![/QUOTE]

Letter of Acceptance today, Interviewed Oct. 16

Congrats!!! When did your portal change to "decision reached"? I'm anxiously awaiting for my letter. My portal changed last Friday. I live about 20 mins from the school, so hoping mine will come soon!

Does anyone on here know on which day of the week the committee meets? I think at the info session Mrs. Kennedy said they meet once a week, but just wondering which day I should perpetually check my status to see if it has changed to "decision reached."

Check either Wends or Fri. Sometimes admissions will meet twice a week depending on how backed up applications are. Though it really doesn't matter when you see the update on the website, because you won't know until you get your snail mail anyways.

i interviewed in early jan, and my status just went to "file under review by member of adcom committee and will be sent to committee shortly". on average, how long will it take to get from this status to decision has been reached?

I don't think an average wait time would be helpful because the range is pretty varied. There are plenty of variables that would cause it to go faster/slower. I'd just expect the 6-8 week time period or whatever they have in the email. Sometimes it will even be longer. Definitely email updates / new transcripts / etc. if you have them though.

Noticed I had an interview invite by checking my portal today. OOS, 34 MCAT, 3.4-3.6 sGPA and cGPA, complete four months ago in September. Earliest dates were mid-late February. Good luck to all still in the running, let's hang in there!

I interviewed in Nov. and still haven't even made it to the status you're at, let alone a decision.

thanks, i was accepted some time in nov

I just received the CERTIPHI email as well, I vaguely recall this being mentioned or reading it somewhere. Just a background check I guess that's more streamlined so they can get it to any school?

Either way I'm going to do whatever it says haha

Congratulations! Some people who interviewed with me had faculty interviews 45 minutes to an hour. Mines was super short like 15-20 minutes, but don't worry about it cause it still worked out for me (yay!). I thought it was really comfortable

Student interview is super chill, you get a a voucher and eat lunch with a student and just talk. We just had a conversation for 30-40 minutes, it was awesome. You can pretty much ask anything imaginable about the school and also get a real feel for the student body. I think its a nice touch by Drexel and part of the reason I loved the interview day (and will likely attend!).

This interview was a week after I had a rough experience at another interview where I felt like everything coming out of my mouth wasn't worded like I wanted and it was tripping me up (just a horrific first interview of a reapplication cycle). However, I left here loving the day and the school.

Haha didn't see this. Pretty much this experience except I had a shorter interview. I pretty much just regurgitated the exact same thing in more words (doh)

Accepted yesterday!!! OOS, nontrad. Complete mid September, II early October, interview mid November. Status with committee member 6 wks post interview, with committee 7 wks post interview, final decision reached 8 wks post interview. Got letter about a week and a half after decision was reached.

If I am correct, drexel does not rank students in its class correct? And grading goes by H/HS/S/MU/U? Just want to get a sense from students as to how nerve wracking it is in terms of competition and whatnot

And also, does the large class size mean getting better grades are harder? Are we essentially competing with a larger class size than a school with 60 students? Or is it that we just have a large class size but are not competitive with our peers for grades?

Just withdrew my acceptance from Drexel; hoping it goes to someone eager to attend! I loved the school, but I already have my heart set on an institution much closer to home. I know many of you would love to have my seat in the class, so I just couldn't imagine hoarding acceptances, including this one, until April. Good luck to those of you still in the running!

"The Admissions Committee has reached a decision on your application."

Uh, that was quick! Interviewed 01/06, status changed today... So nervous!

Did you see all of the "typical" statuses first (under review by member & under review by committee)? If so, when did you see each status? Good luck with the wait for and the outcome of the decision!!
