On hold 9/23

SO if you haven't been rejected as quickly as me, then that's something to feel good about!

@PopcornPrincess Were you actually rejected today, or were you just placed on hold the 23rd? Is a hold fairly equivalent to a rejection here? :/

So- I was only placed on hold. It reads:

"Thank you for your application. Your file has been reviewed by a member of our Admissions Committee. While we have decided not to invite you for an interview at this time, we would like to re-evaluate your application again in the spring should interview spots remain. We have many completed applications to review and wish to hold on a final decision on your application until later in the cycle. Again, thank you for your interest in Drexel College of Medicine. "

I have absolutely no idea of the chances of an interview invite in the spring after a hold! - Seems to be a mixed bag in terms of opinions, but I just felt that being put on hold that quickly couldn't be a good thing!

Just got my II! Still in shock, though. I never received an e-mail and if I hadn't checked my application status on their website today (on a whim!) I would have totally missed it!
Stats? if don't mind.

Oh wow--thanks for all the likes! Interview dates at this point between October 22 and January!

I saw the dates on Saturday (10/4).

Thank you! I rescheduled for 10/23. Everybody, try not to get sick during interview season (get that flu shot if you haven't!) because it's a hassle to rebook everything.

I have an interview (not at Drexel) tomorrow and I abruptly started coughing up a lung last night. But it is responding extremely well to Tylenol Severe Cold (I feel icky, but I'm not coughing at all), so I think I'm going to power through...

Ahh! Hopefully it's just a transient bug. I definitely don't think I could even get on a flight and travel cross country haha - let alone try to talk about medicine and healthcare. Best of luck tomorrow! My heart goes out to you.

Awww, thank you so much! Actually, I drove >6 hours. Blech. My primary concern is that I don't want to infect others, but given how impressively the cough is kept at bay on medicine, I feel like I shouldn't be projecting my germs everywhere...

As a pre-med, I am going to prescribe you some over the counter drugs to help with that cough. You can thank me later.

I feel your pain! Bring cough drops if you can to your interview. I caught a bad cold right before my first interview and ended up breaking into a coughing fit during my last minute at an MMI station. It blew but bringing cough drops and robitussin tablets helped. I hope that doesn't happen to you!! Good luck!!

Cough drops have never done a darn thing for me. Tylenol Severe Cold (actually its generic analogue... four different medicines in it), on the other hand, is a freaking life saver. You still feel vaguely ill, but you can pretty much get through whatever you need to on it. Hooray for our pharmaceutical researchers! 😀

Damn I wish I had known that a week ago. Hahaha I've just been using good old nasty robitussin. If this cold doesn't go away by my next interview I'll definitely invest in some of that magic APAP

Definitely. The medicines in it are acetaminophen (headache/sore throat/fever relief), dextromethorphan (cough suppressant), guaifenesin (expectorant), and phenylephrine (decongestant). Sooooooo... pretty much covers all the bases. I spread the Gospel of Cold Medicine every time I get a respiratory bug (once a year, average)!

Funny story about Tylenol Severe Cold... seven years ago, a friend and I (and many others) were stuck in close quarters for a few months, and he got a respiratory bug. I tried to talk him into taking the medicine (I had brought a bunch), but he did not trust medicine and wouldn't. After about a week, he infected me because he couldn't stop coughing. He finally agreed to the medicine and was shocked that, in his words, "I really do feel all better... but I'm still not convinced medicine is a good thing."

Fast forward seven years. Said friend went back to school for pre-med and matriculated at Iowa this fall. 😛 I guess he learned a lot over those years... either that or my preaching convinced him.

I've read back through this and last year's thread and haven't found this answer. How many folks does Drexel typically interview for their class of 260? It's a huge class!

Last year (according to MSAR), they interviewed 1222 people (346 IS, 876 OOS).

So if their class is 260 ... and they interview 1200 roughly how many people do you think they accept?

Complete 9/16 and still no status change.

Just wanted to let you know my initial complete date (before the system lost my application and I had to resubmit) was 9/5.
Awesome. Thanks for the info. I'm really not too worried yet, seeing that they were still doing August apps not too long ago.

Interviewed here today and LOVED IT! Amazing facilities, great staff, and pretty campus. Message me if you have any questions 🙂

Also interviewed today, and the campus and curriculum was amazing! On the plus side they said they will get back to those who interviewed in about 6 weeks time by snail mail! PM if you have any other questions about where to stay or what to expect! Hi Terps1011!

So what happened? You just checked your status and it said "invited"?

I had that same experience--no email (and still none) just checked status. When I logged into screen 2, instead of clicking to "view your decision" it just said "schedule interview" and had a blurb on top about being invited. I think I checked over the weekend, maybe Sunday and this was Monday that I saw the interview. I'd probably been checking 5x/week.

interview invite ! they didn't email either! I'm happy but wow, i was just randomly checking my status and saw that i was invited for an interview. keep checking your status.!!

out of curiosity - did anyone see their status change without receiving an email? and if so, did you eventually get an official email?

Has everyone's status changed from something along the lines of "No decision has been made/No decision is available at this time" to "your file is complete and will be reviewed?"

My application has been complete at Drexel since 9/15. I found it strange that they would change the status to this.

I'm still stuck on your previous status, so be grateful lol

Yeah a friend of mine texted me that they got an interview without any email notice so I checked and got a wonderful surprise.

how long does it take them to process secondaries as "received"?
