2014-2015 Florida Atlantic University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
II for 9/12!! May try and change to 8/26 if I can get out of the first day of classes, but I'm a little worried because my university has a first day attendance policy and I don't want anyone to mess up and drop me from my classes.

Regardless, super excited to have another interview scheduled!

Does anyone know what the "behavioral interview" is?

I read on last year's thread that it is basically just to make sure you're not actually crazy and I remember students saying it was just a normal interview

lol they like using adjectives it seems --"humanitarian"

mind sharing stats?

Just had my status changed to review in progress today. An II would be amazing from FAU

On the life experiences beyond science questions it says that leaving categories blank will not make the application incomplete. Does that mean you don't have to answer all of them? I'm having a hard time with this creative endeavor one (left brain) but I've completed everything else. Thoughts?

If I remember correctly after the first two the rest are optional. Call the school to be sure

You don't have to answer all of them but it might look bad not to. I guarantee you can pick something from your activities in the primary app and claim that it took creativity. Substitute 'problem solving' or 'thinking on your feet' for creativity if that makes it easier to come up with something. Just churn out a few sentences, it'll look better than leaving it blank.

Okay, I was thinking I would probably have to do that. Thanks for the advice!

I think after "secondary application complete" it's "Preliminary Review Complete"

That's what it is for FIU and they use the same system
mine is "review in progress"

II received today, I was complete 7/8, Review Complete 7/17; II 8/13. I am incredibly excited. I thought this school wouldn't take a second look at me when I did the secondary, but I couldn't be more thrilled to interview here. I am IS, regular decision, non-trad!

Congrats, bud! Could you please tell them to interview me when you're down there? :=|:-):

Congrats on the interview. Did you have a "Review in Progress" status before it changed to a "Review Complete" status?

I did, it was only about a week for me, but others have been in it much longer.

II on 7/30. Stats: 31 mcat, 3.6 gpa. in state applicant

I was complete with my app on 7/14. Best of luck with your app! I hope you get an interview 🙂

FINALLY saw a status change today!!! i was starting to wonder

I've been "Review in Progress" since 7/7, wish they'd update mine sometime lol.

Interviewed yesterday. The school is small, but all of the students I talked to genuinely only had great things to say about the school and administration. For those waiting to interview with them, don't sweat it because they are really relaxed. FAU definitely became my top choice after yesterday.

Review in Progress - 08/15

Does anyone know how many interviews they give out and how many people they accept?

They are interviewing 320 people this year. I'm not sure how many are OOS. They accept only 64/year and 75% or more will be IS

I just read their class size is 64, if they're only interviewing 320 I'm sure they'll accept 100+

Thanks!!!! 🙂

Someone Correct me if I am wrong, but they can only give out the actual 64 seats (or acceptances) until they graduate their first class. So I expect to see a lot of 'accepted alternates' again this season till 4/30, when double spots have to be given up. They can't overaccept yet if I understood correctly.

Ah I didn't know that lol, you're probably right

I've been Review in Progress for quite sometime now. I retook the MCAT recently and just received scores on the 2nd. I'm wondering how/if this is goin to set back my secondary reviews since they'll just now receiving this information :/

They said at my interview that they like the small class atmosphere and they plan on keeping FAU's classes at 64 indefintely

That is true but not what I was referring to. Other schools are allow to give more than 1 acceptance for each spot (for instance say 2.5 acceptances for each instate seat). FAU cannot yet, as they have to graduate their first class first. Next year they will be able to. So we are likely to have a lot of waitlist, because they will only give out literally 64 acceptances.

So my comment was in regard to the number of acceptances not the number of seats.

To further clarify, even tho schools give out 2 acceptances a seat, they still only end up matriculating the right number of students, as students are allowed to hold more than one acceptance, and (especially higher stat folks) will have many until the April 30 deadline when they have to cut down to one acceptance. Hopefully this clarifies for everyone what I was referring too.
