2014-2015 Loyola University Chicago (Stritch) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's pretty quiet for a while, then a couple months to get pre-orientation stuff done. I think they've already updated all that for you guys:

In addition, I would recommend getting any loan deferment paperwork in order (especially with any private lenders) bc Loyola has to sign off on your forms and send them in on your behalf.
PS-- there's gonna be A LOT of documents, it behooves you to stay organized (I had labeled folders)

Congrats and see you at orientation!

Edit: nvm on the site being updated! Still says class of 2018 on the links BUT it gives you a good idea of what to expect

Hey mmedran! Quick question, which M1 classes are mandatory? I know lectures are optional (since they're recorded), but I saw the updated M1 schedule, and there seems to be more on the schedule than just lecture. Which classes do you have to go to, and which ones are optional? Thanks!

Hi Bubbles,

Anything labeled as "small group" is mandatory as well as all PCM lectures and labs. They take attendance to keep track, btw. Keep in mind, course directors do allow some missed groups/excused absences. All other lectures and "conferences" (basically like lectures but smaller) have optional attendance.

If I missed anything, I apologize.

Congrats and thanks for letting us know that they are starting out early.

Maybe they're not going to be making daily calls? I mean they forgot me today, but I'll allow them to ring me tomorrow =)
Haha, I'm with you!

..but for real. Praying we hear good news tomorrow

We will. This is our cycle and we're going to be classmates. And when it happens, you and I are going to have some delicious deep dish and beers on me on day.....6 of our first year of medical school. Deal?

YAAAAAASSSSS !!! swap the beer for a cream soda for me and we haveeeee a real sweet deal. I'm pumped that we are going to be classmates in the fall...and that we get the call tomorrow begging us to come to Loyola :highfive:

By the way, would anyone who got accepted off the wait-list this year be willing to post their stats (GPA / MCAT / whatever else you want to share)?

Maybe they are only calling on Mondays????

This sounds reasonable. Throughout the year the admissions committee met every 3rd Monday of the month and calls went out that night (the last wave of acceptances in March was an exception I think). Also, the two recent acceptances posted on SDN were on a Monday.

Friday seems like a better time for a phone call since that gives you the weekend to celebrate. 😉

P.S. I'll bump my post from before concerning stats, since it got lost at the very bottom of the last page:

If you got accepted off the wait-list this year (or even just accepted) and don't mind sharing your stats (MCAT/GPA/etc.), please do!

Still no movement today according to gyngyn! Either late calls on the way or we gotta wait until Monday. Or maybe all of our phones are broken?

I know they were behind in a lot of stuff this year, so let's hope they're just behind in making tons more calls!
Btw, does anyone know if the list is ranked?

Oh.. does gyngyn post everytime he will see Loyola accept off the waiting list? I thought he was just posting the first time he saw movement.

Would it be inappropriate to call and ask where we are ranked on the list?
it's a fair question to ask about ranking. I would say it would be okay to call and ask tactfully.

Out of curiosity, how do you know it's okay to ask about ranking? I'm aware that some schools explicitly state they do not disclose any information about where the applicant is ranked.

In any case, I agree that asking tactfully is the way to go if one were to give admissions a call.

I've read in past forums that they don't give out that info. In any case, it won't help in getting accepted, but may help to calm nerves if they told you. I would wait and be proactive by sending meaningful updates. That's just my 2 cents. best of luck.

Oh.. does gyngyn post everytime he will see Loyola accept off the waiting list? I thought he was just posting the first time he saw movement.
What you posted makes a lot more sense. It appears he does only post when the movement starts for a school, otherwise he would be posting dozens of schools daily. Don't know where my head was at on that one. This wait must be making me loopy 😵

So I clarified with gyngyn in the thread and it turns out he does report daily on waitlist movement. So since he's posted about Stritch only last Monday, it appears there has only been one (small?) wave. Still waiting on that next one....

Edit: threat => thread

Haha yes just now..... What an awful feeling that gave me
Probably just an email blast? I don't think academically I had a weakness (gpa, course selection/load, etc), so the program probably wouldn't help me "show" the adcoms what they already might know.

General question to everyone, is Loyola receptive to meetings on how we can improve our application for a subsequent cycle? I'm not entirely sure what went wrong with my app/interview (one of my interviewers said they would give me the best possible recommendation). I felt a connection to the program/mission, and I'm just at a loss as to what I can do to improve my applicancy.

thank goodness for SDN, I got the masters program email too and it felt like a death sentence to my hopes of getting accepted. at least this gave me some relief.
