Sorry for the deferrals@anon654 and @wolverine2013, and for yours, @aov12.

Rejected post-II. Shocked, as my interviews there were probably my two best thus far.

just checking, We only had to click on the online status site that we accept the offer of admission right? The fee and everything else comes later once sure we ar egoing to matriculate here?

Question about online statuses and all. I have been on "AMCAS Application Received" and "Secondary Application Received" for a long time now. Is this the status that people are on before interviews are offered or not?

It was for me.

Ugh, my interview day's decision day can't come soon enough. I think my interviews went quite well overall, but I keep replaying parts of it over and over again in my head, wishing I had said something different. In particular, I wish I had better emphasized how much I want to get in to OSU instead of excitedly answering their question that, yes, I already had a great acceptance. I'd take OSU first :-/ But when will my brain learn that sometimes there's just nothing to be done but chill out and wait?

Did you write a note afterward? Don't worry too much--folks at OSU know that there are other opportunities. From what I saw, their marketing technique was to make it clear that they believe that they are best!! Still, I agree. Waiting is very hard.

Can anyone with a recent II shed some light on when the earliest available dates are? I'm getting a bit nervous that they're almost all full!

I was offered Dec 15th as the earliest date. But, I believe OSU interviews well into March, if not April. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. So, I highly doubt that interview days are close to being full.

does anyone know what kind of updates OSU likes to see? they mentioned things like if you got a 4.0 this fall semester they would like to know, but would it be bad to update them even if you got something lower?

I guess it depends on what "lower" is. A 3.9 is technically lower, so is a 2.9. So I guess it depends on if you think it will strengthen your application or not.

Most likely! And a heads up, it comes from a private/blocked/unknown number, with Dr. Capers on the other end! Hoping for good news for you!!!
Hmmmm, I slept through an unknown call this morning... I'm assuming it's just a coincidence and he would have left a message if it had been him. 🙂

Thanks! Yea, it's not as low as 2.9 but more in the 3.8ish range. Considering this is what my GPA is right now, I don't really think it would strengthen the letter too much.

Also does anyone know if OSU places importance on whether or not you have the anatomy requirement filled when looking at the deferred list? My school doesn't have an anatomy course so I would have to take it online at another school, but I don't want to spend the money if I don't need to. However, now I'm worried that the fact I don't have this requirement filled might hurt me? Anyone have any insight?

I'm pretty sure you don't have to have it done before you apply or during the cycle so you should be fine now however you will need to complete it before you matriculate

Deferred as well. For people still waiting to hear back, they stated that they are approximately halfway through their interview season so there should be plenty of interviews left to hand out.

Deferred also. Anyone know how often the admissions committee meets from this point on?

Deferred here as well. Is it safe to assume that there is no real movement on the deferred list until May?

Do you get a call if you are accepted? How about deferred? How did you guys find that out?

Also deferred. Looks like this decision day was a rough one (unless all you accepted students are just holding out on us). TexasDawg, they said at the interview that they re-evaluate the deferred list every 2 weeks and move people off it, though I guess that could be into the "accepted" or "rejected" pile. Does anyone have any idea what proportions of deferred students are ultimately accepted vs. rejected?

Accepted, according to earlier posts at least, got a phone call from Dr. Capers the night before decisions are to be released. Deferred (and rejected, I would imagine) got an email saying that their status had been updated on the applicant portal this morning.

Sorry about all the deferrals. I received a phone call last night.

From last year's Q&A session http://medicine.osu.edu/secondlook/qa/pages/index.aspx:
"based on previous years what percentage of deferred students become accepted roughly? " -Blinda

April 16, 2013

It varies, as it depends on the number of students who withdraw. There is no way to know how many students will withdraw. One year we might take a big number from the waiting list and the next year we might take just a few.

Late to the party, AMCAS went out a lot later than I wanted it to, and I just found this site. Go figure.

Still waiting for a response after the initial application. My family went to TOSU. Hoping for some love soon.

This sounds like the deferral is a waiting list from which students won't be drawn until March/April/May once accepted students decide where to attend. On my interview day it sounded like they would consider deferred applicants during the cycle and call them once accepted. Then again, I haven't heard anything since deferral on 10/15 and I don't think any of the students accepted on this thread had been deferred. I might withdraw soon, if this is how it is going to play out.

Wait, do they still give out secondaries? I'd imagine that the secondary deadline is already past... Good luck though!

Sorry... I got a secondary right away and sent it in with plenty of time (but later than I wanted, grrrr). I meant I was waiting for a response afterward.

Accepted last night. A big public thank you to @BengaliBrat and @Supraspinatus on providing me with insight into the interview day. Look forward to meeting you both at second look in April. Love TOSU!
YES!!! Much as I love to take credit for the accomplishments of others, you must have brought your A game--it was all you, BradyC. Looking forward to our party in Columbus at Second Look--and congratulations!!

So many deferrals the last few weeks, myself included. Debating whether I should just withdraw as it seems people aren't really getting accepted off the deferral list this year

Definitely, because this gives me a better shot. 😉

Kidding. It's up to you. I understand the frustration though. I'm considering bailing on schools where I interviewed many months ago now.

To everyone who is on the deferred list, I would encourage you to hang in there. If you have an interest in attending Ohio State, there is no harm in holding your spot. We do interview up through the first week of April, so there are still several months of interviews to conduct, but you never know what kind of movement will happen.

If you have your eyes on somewhere else, and would rather remove yourself to spare some anxiety, that is totally understandable. For those who will wait and hope for a spot, I can only say good luck. After my first full semester here, I can say that this institution is absolutely worth waiting for, no question about it.

Congratulations again to those accepted, and good luck to the rest as well. I hope you all enjoy the holidays.

WHAT???? Way too early to tell!! Give yourself some time. . .if you are still interested.

I guess I'm just frustrated because it sounded to me like people were accepted off the deferred list at each committee meeting, but I haven't heard of any yet this cycle... it seems more like a waitlist to me. Don't know if I'd go there anyways, so it's probably not worth holding onto. And good luck to you @AspiringERMD

I mean, if you really don't think you'd go there - and according to your status you already have at least one acceptance elsewhere - then by all means make some room for the people who really want it.

I guess I'm mostly just bitter at the decision I got. There is definitely truth to the idea that we are poor predictors of our interview performance! Thought they went very well.

I hear ya; I thought mine went well too. Best of luck to you as well 🙂
