2014-2015 Ohio State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Secondary marked as "received" on 8/7; MCAT 34 and Gpa 3.85. Haven't heard anything since.. Are my chances for an II still alive?

Just dropping in. As a current M1, I may be able to answer some of your burning questions. Let me know if you need anything!

So if they told us we could see our decision on the portal tomorrow, does that mean accepted people would get a call today?

Most likely! And a heads up, it comes from a private/blocked/unknown number, with Dr. Capers on the other end! Hoping for good news for you!!!

Thank you very much for saying this. I almost always ignore such calls.

Only if you're the whiny, spoiled one *chuckle*
Typecasting! Let's meet at Second Look and mock one another and sneer obnoxiously!! :poke:

Oh, and by the way fellow Buckeyes and maybe Buckeyes--I'm an equal opportunity pest, so feel free to share the suffering with @Supraspinatus. . . .

Absolutely!!! I can't wait for second look! And yes, the more the merrier!

I got an II this morning. The email just said it was a status change, and they have been silent since I was complete in mid-July, so I expected the change in my status to be far more negative.

When were you complete? My MCAT was 9/4 so I was complete 9/24, they got scores 10/7. I ran a bit late, so I want to know

for those that are accepted, is there a deadline to send in the technical standards form/$25 fee?

Got that deferral this morning. Not surprised, it was not my finest performance :/

Congratulations to everyone accepted so far!!!

How was everyone's Thanksgiving? I took about a week off from SDN and I am feeling refreshed lol

Anyways, I was wondering if any of you kind people might offer a girl some tips or advice for interview day??? :xf:Also, did you request to meet with a medical student from one of the student groups?

Any info would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

First and foremost, relax on interview day. For the most part our interviews are very conversational. Our interviewers are your advocates to the committee, so they just want to make sure you're as great a person as you are a student, at least on paper.

Be yourself, and he able to speak about anything you wrote on your apps, as many topics of conversation stem from there. There shouldn't be any ethical questions or anything silly like that.

Also, if you want to speak to a representative from one of our student groups, like Women in Medicine or SNMA, we'll be present with all the other medical students during lunch. It's informal, so don't feel that you're missing out on anything if you did or did not request to have one of us present.

Do you know whether or not OSU sends rejections or does so silently? Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Do you mean pre or post interview?

Post interview, you can remain under consideration for subsequent meetings until the end of the season technically.

Pre-interview, your file can be closed and you can be deferred for consideration for our SMP program, or rejected, or deferred for consideration later.

Hey guys, also another ii hopeful from this school. Congrats to everyone that has been accepted.

Just thought I would throw my 0.02 in here. I believe that OSU may really be sorting through their apps based on MCAT. I do believe that those with < 33-34 MCATS still have a good shot though. I know an MS3 that interviewed prospective students and assisted with the adcom that told me they are truly holistic. Yes, the numbers have to be good but they look for the whole package. In addition, I have spoken with Dr. Capers multiple times over the years and have gotten good insight from him. Before I took the MCAT, I specifically asked him what a score would make me competitive, and when I asked about a 30 he told me "a 30 is a good score and would definitely put you in the game," without hesitating what so ever. I highly doubt he would lie to me. To those without stellar stats, we are still in the game, we just are in the middle of the pile.

Good luck to everyone

I think their holistic view is applied even before though! people with 30's still have a great shot. I got well below 30 my first try and just above the second time and still got interviewed, good luck!! sending positive interview vibes 🙂

thanks, and congrats on your acceptance!!

was the phone call later in the afternoon/evening? i'm supposed to find out tomorrow and im going crazy with the wait haha
Steady on, @anon654! Mine was in the evening, but I have read on sdn that some folks get their calls late at night. Hope that you get good news! Let us know!

Deferred :/

This one definitely stung. Does anyone know how much movement there is off this list before it becomes a true waitlist? And since they review the deferred list every two weeks, when is a good time to send an update?
