2014-2015 Ohio State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats! Would you mind sharing stats and your approximate II date? Thanks!

Just yesterday I was telling myself the application season was probably over for me, so in my mind I had crossed Ohio State off my list...yet lo and behold, II in my inbox this morning! In-state, LizzyM ~73. I grew up around Columbus, even taking classes and doing research at OSU, so I thought for sure I would get an early II, but they were silent from August until now. Better late than never!

Anyone know about asking where a deferred student is on the waitlist.?I know they say they review applicants every two weeks, but there must be some kind of ranking system

Anyone else start the online anatomy course? Not too bad so far.

I've been on the waitlist for almost 8 weeks and heard nothing, and I don't think anyone else in this thread has posted about being in off the waitlist. You can check past year's threads, but I don't think it's looking good for us :/

Just a little insight from someone who was pulled off the waitlist last cycle: it seemed like no one really came off until after May 15, but a lot of people came off well into the middle of the summer. So don't get discouraged if you don't hear anything until then!

In terms of ranking, they sent out an e-mail sometime around May 15 last year asking who had taken anatomy and biochem and that they would use this info to form the final waitlist ranking. So if OSU is your dream school I would strongly consider taking those now if you are waitlisted and haven't taken them yet.

Hang in there, guys!

Has anyone got a call from Dr. Capers? My interview day is supposed to hear back tomorrow. It looks like calls usually go out the night before.

I got really excited when I saw an email from OSU admissions this morning, but it was just to acknowledge that they'd received my update letter. Hoping for a late II at OSU!

Do we know if there are still interview dates available?

Do we know if there are still interview dates available?

Considering there were people getting IIs on Friday and others withdrawing a few posts above us, I would guess there's still a glimmer of hope.

I interviewed here yesterday, and my already high expectations for Ohio State were exceeded. From the collaborative culture of the students, the unbelievable facilities, innovative LSI curriculum, and the charisma of Dr. Capers this was by far my best experience interviewing and I left knowing exactly where my first choice school is. And not to leave out that Columbus is a tremendous city. I enjoyed my experience in Short North. Simply put, if I am accepted to Ohio State, I am coming here. Thanks to all on the board for the advice.

If anyone is flying into Columbus on Sunday and staying at Varsity Inn, please PM me so we can share a cab.

Is dr capers still calling the night before to notify of acceptance?

interviewed here today! Absolutely amazing. Everyone was so great. Def my top choice now.
It's hard to pinpoint it exactly, but there's just something special about it!!!

I absolutely agree, although I think the collaborative and welcoming environment is a big part of that appeal. I'm very much hoping for a call from Dr Capers late Monday/very early Tuesday.

I think the sentiment is a difficult one to capture in words, but it is also perfectly conveyed in our Alma Mater. I encourage anyone who hasn't heard it or seen it sung by the student body to feel free to look up "Carmen Ohio" on Youtube.

"How firm thy friendship" is more than just a line in a song here.

@Celdurant, now you've got me all teary-eyed!

Time and change will surely show, how firm thy friendship O-HI-O!!!!!!!

I was looking at their stats. Last year they accepted 52% of the people they interviewed! That's the highest I've ever heard of! Seems like almost half the class comes off waitlist so hang in there. I find out march 10th...if I get deferred I'll stay positive!

I'm starting to go mildly crazy wondering if I'll ever get off the deferred list. I really, really want to 🙁 The worst case scenario is if I get off the deferred list, but after it's too late to choose OSU (already moved to another school, partner found a new job elsewhere, etc.).

I guess I'll just try to focus on the fact that I have other acceptances. I do know I'm incredibly lucky. 🙂

There are definitely places with higher acceptance rates! Also I'm not sure if you were looking at # of matriculants vs. # of interviews, or actual stats for % accepted. The # of actual matriculants is always less than the # of accepted applicants. But you are right in saying that OSU takes a lot of people from the waitlist compared to other schools, so that's a clear positive!

I was looking at total number of acceptances! I think it was 382 accepted out of 734 interviews for a class of 188 so obviously a huge number off the wait list!

Have merit scholarships gone out yet? Surprised no one on SDN has reported getting one.

Does anyone who have interviewed already have any tips for how they wish they would have prepared or said more of? Or if anyone just has some more advice - I can't get enough 🙂

Nah nothing new. Just have outlines for maybe like the 5 most common interview questions and brush up on your experiences so you have examples to pull from. It's very relaxed and conversational. I find the best way to interview is to prepare like crazy and then when interview time comes...completely forget all your preparation and just have a conversation.

I will chime in here and say that I am hesitant to remain on the deferred list here because after skimming previous threads it seems that very few (if any) get in before the last day for multiple acceptances. I have a spouse/family to move, so waiting until mid May isn't much of an option for me. That being said, you may have connected with OSU more than I did so that could tip the scales a little.

That's true. I also went through the previous year's thread, and I agree... they pretty much just start pulling people around that deadline. I really did love OSU. (Though I found out yesterday about that urology residency lawsuit and now I'm wondering if maybe I should just take a different acceptance and run with it... probably will wait it out though... it was just one crazy attending.)

say what??? link?

Anybody have an idea on the next round of calls if those are still happening?

It was hard to say what the earliest time was people began receiving calls from, based on previous posts.

Oh, I assumed they were at midnight. I was curious to know the date. By my estimations its been about 2 weeks since the last one?

Dr. Capers makes all the phone calls at midnight? I figured they would start earlier around early evening EST. @2Infinity They should've told you exactly when you should hear back regarding decisions during interview day.
