You arrive in the morning - they have coffee and tea ready. Then you go into a conference room with a big table and a projector. You have bout 30 mins to get acquainted with other interviewers. Then they present their program, new curriculum, etc. etc. They have a couple speakers (admissions people and physicians) that go through the application details (how many applicants, II's, offers). Then they brief you on the MMI, give you your position in the MMIi rotation - they boom, you start. Note: some people's one-on-one is part of the MMI where you take two stations' time to interview with an individual.
After the MMI, everyone is a little frazzled, so you go to have lunch in another part of the building, which is joined with current med students. Then you go on a long tour of the waterfront buildings, take the tram to the top of the hill, go through the facilities there. Then you end at the admissions office to have a diversity, financial aid, and a final questions debrief. Some people take their one-on-one interview in the afternoon after all of this (like me).
Then you are sent home - I took some more time to explore and take pictures, then headed straight down the tram and to Deschutes for a beer.

I got an interview! Does anyone know what the stats are on instate post-interview acceptance rates? The MSAR says that 200 interviews for instate are conducted and 100 matriculate, but I imagine that not everyone who is accepted matriculates...

I am posting because I was hoping to get some advice and info. I am a non-traditional student, I have (and currently am) worked/working as a clinical research coordinator, volunteered in the Peace Corps. in Cambodia, and my college experience is peppered with health related volunteer work. I have a 3.3 GPA but I scored a 35 on the MCAT last June. I am really interested in going to OHSU and I submitted my secondary some time ago. I expect I won't be hearing from them for a bit because my GPA puts me below the early interview dates but I was curious if you guys think that MCAT score might beat out my subpar GPA.
The info I was hoping for is that I recently changed my work from doing Systems Admin work at a tech company to getting back into clinical research, and I just finished up a post graduate biochem class with an A. I feel like this is info their admissions board might want to add to my file, but I am unsure how to go about sending it to them. Any thoughts?

What did it say in the portal? All I've had since Sept is that my file is complete.

My friend told me that there was a message at the very bottom of the portal that explained his application was being held for evaluation for an interview invite until later in the cycle or something to that extent. I think the portal should be explicit, if you don't have this message then it probably means they haven't made it to your app yet.

Just came back from The Interview and below is my experience:
Pre-Interview: As always, OHSU makes one welcomed once inside their building and this time is no different. The receptionist is kind enough to direct us toward the coffee stand and I appreciated that---at least for those of us who are cofoholics! The interview was in Collaborative Life Sciences Bldg. Wow, this is a futuristic looking building that is very imposing indeed. Some of the admin people like it and others not so much. But I loved it not because I am fond of glassy buildings but it just seems like a cool idea to have a medical education in a clean and nice space---who does not when you are stressed out and the least thing you want to think about is those decrepit and old smelly buildings! Once we got seated in the conference room, we received orientation about the whole interview process, what it means to go through the new curriculum, MMI info and why it is the most hated and the most loved part of the interview, what happens after the interview and other basic stuff. I dreaded that I might get an ulcer waiting for OHSU's decision!
Interview: Once given instruction, you go through interview non stop, so embrace yourself for the endurance (last year we had break between some MMI station and this year I thought it would be the same and I kept looking for it lol). The MMI is great or awful depending on one's interpretation but I found them to be enjoyable this time around---there were times when I thought I was talking to someone from mars--as in being talked to in Italian for example! It just came out no where because I do not speak Italian and never said a word about it in my app but it is a curve ball conversation where we went from the question that we are supposed to talk about to history and and sometimes you never know what you face at these interviews. But overall it was a good experience. You get 2 min to read the question posted outside and 8 min to answer questions---there is announcement and it is easy to follow along. Along the way, you will also get the one on one interview which takes about 22 min total and this you will know because there are two spaces allocated to it on the sheet that they give you. This year, I felt like the whole interview went by really fast and I was even surprised when the one on one lady told me to wrap it up because I thought we were just talking for about 5 mins when in fact we have already used up the whole 22 min! I sort of freaked out about it but hopefully it all works out! Note: if you are still waiting for interview, refer back to my previous post on MMI materials including the UW website (excellent resource!).
Post Interview: Right after the interview, we had lunch and this is where we had the chance to mingle. It seems like OHSU knows how to put together its prospective students. People with various backgrounds and experiences but overall a nice cohort of people that will probably enrich the class as a whole.
Finally, we went on the tour of the CLS building and saw lecture halls and a rendition of how the new curriculum is supposed to play out (e.g. big lecture hall vs small interactive groups) and I found that to be informative. So many rooms and spaces dedicated to study area and many of the facilities are wired with high tech gadgets. CLS is beautiful in that the engineers made sure the building gets lots of natural light, something I value a lot (we all have idiosyncracies!). We then went up to the hill to get more touring of the school and even though I know some parts of OHSU, I still found them to be enjoyable. I have had strong connection to the school going back as far as 2003 when I was a naive high school guy breaking my glasses while doing experiments. Still, getting the tour of the new facilities is awe inspiring to say the least. We will see if all these fancy stuff makes good doctors! They finally went over the not so sexy stuff like financial aid too and this sort of worried me because it is damn expensive to finance med school.
Commentary: OHSU seems like a great place to be a great clinician (one of the MS2 told me this). And with the new building and the new curriculum, heck one might even learn how to be a 21st century physician! I am not too confident about my chances but crossing my fingers and I wish all of you the best of luck!!

Got an OOS interview invite today, exactly 16 full weeks after I was marked complete. Hopefully, that gives some hope to the other OOSers. The options were in January with one date in February. Really excited!!!!

If you look back in the thread OHSU has stated they almost never look outside the mission based groups for interviews.

I was complete August 5th and I haven't heard a thing (21 weeks ago). I'm OOS but I fit into a mission-group because my mom lives in Oregon. I have a 32MCAT, 3.55 cumulative, 3.75 science, non-traditional, etc. I suppose I should call...

They updated my portal to say this sometime recently:
We are still reviewing applications. If the OHSU Admissions Portal shows that your file is complete and you have not heard from us yet, we will send you notification through the portal by February. Thank you for your patience.
Please continue to check the Admissions Portal for the most up-to-date information concerning your file.
I'm OOS as well, complete 9/12. Today is my 16 weeks. I guess we just wait more...

Thanks for the info! In my interview on 12/12 they said 4-6 weeks for a decision... I think I am going to bank on 6-8 though since you haven't heard yet and today was 3 weeks for me. Hope you get good news soon!

OHSU tends to be meticulous in reviewing applications. This amount of care is fantastic in one sense, but it does mean that they tend to be quite slow in getting back to applicants. Last year they blew through all their estimated timelines for most applicants I believe. This is one school that takes its time to determine exactly who it wants. Do not be concerned if they take their time getting back to you, they just want to be sure!
