2014-2015 Oregon Health & Science University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
OHSU tends to be meticulous in reviewing applications. This amount of care is fantastic in one sense, but it does mean that they tend to be quite slow in getting back to applicants. Last year they blew through all their estimated timelines for most applicants I believe. This is one school that takes its time to determine exactly who it wants. Do not be concerned if they take their time getting back to you, they just want to be sure!

On that note, happy new year everyone and lets all hope for some good news!
That's a very reassuring and comforting thing to know about the OHSU process. Thanks for the note. On an unrelated issue, from where in Italy are you/ your family?

Since the both Xmas and New Years have both landed on Thursdays - I wonder if many adcom meetings have been pushed back to possibly this Thursday? I have a sense that this Friday some news may come out - it has been really quiet around these parts.

Yeah there's a lot of people at week 6 and beyond. I'm hoping someone bites the bullet and calls😉

Did anyone from 10/29 get accepted yet? Just curious to see how my fellow interviewees did.

Rejection notice on the portal today (no email). oh well. Good luck to everyone else still in the running!

Ah Biochem sorry to hear this! 🙁 Although it makes me nervous that mine is on its way as well. When about where you complete? And was this pre or post interview?

Huh, I haven't been rejected yet. I thought I wasn't missions based because of my very average mcat and OS, so maybe Im still in the running because of the high GPA. @_@

How did you see a rejection notice on the portal if you aren't rejected?

Scratch that. I misread the poster, thought it was biochem. Apologies.

Are you URM, Underprivileged, etc?

So URM is a mission group, correct?
From the OHSU website:
Non-resident applicants with superior achievements in academics and other related experiences. The adcom defines this as URM, underprivileged, cultural/ethical diversity, etc.

Awww just checked my status page and saw that I was rejected (posted today, which is coincidental because this is the first time I've checked the status page). No email. OOS and was mission-based. I guess I just didn't make the cut! I was complete in late August...took a long time for them to reject me.
Sorry to hear! When were you complete?

Don't want to jinx this statement. Knocking on wood. Hoping for some good news today ("I'm not superstitious, just a little stitious") - In reality, I am just assuming hold since like 80% post interview are put on hold.

No rejection yet but does anyone know for sure that they aren't interviewing oos non mission students? I saw someone posted that but my application hasn't been rejected yet?

I posted that. I spoke with admissions on Monday. They told me they had just made the decision they would not be interviewing any non-mission and that we would receive notice "soon". It may be worth another call to verify. I too can't help but feel a modicum of hope every day my application is still open.

EDIT: was just made official.

My portal says this, now:
"NOTE: The M.D. Committee regretfully is not able to offer you an interview. You are still in consideration for an M.D. only interview."

What does that mean?

Did you apply to one of the combined programs? MD/PhD or MD/MPH? That message usually goes to combined program applicants who are no longer in the running, but may end up as MD-only candidates.

I applied to the MD/MPH. I hope that I am still considered by this school; I want to work rurally in Oregon or Iowa. 🙁

As the email stated, you are now in the MD applicant pool. If you're in one of the mission groups, they will review your file.

For what it's worth, I know several people who were rejected from either the MD/MPH or MD/PhD program who ended up matriculating MD-only at OHSU. It happens all the time. Chin up.

Received 'non-mission' rejection notice. Non-traditional, OOS, MCAT and GPA above 32 and 3.70. I was a bit surprised as I thought they might consider me for the last two categories of mission-based group. Oh well, so long, OHSU! Good luck to all who are still in the running!

FYI OOS complete 9/10, so my 16 week window just wrapped up. Still no word, the only mission I fit is the academic one.

Just called the admissions office- they said that my file hasn't been reviewed yet, and that I could expect to hear back within a few weeks. I'm not entirely sure if this means all the 11/12 interviewees are in the same boat, but hopefully this information is helpful to everyone! Here's to waiting!

So much for 6 weeks :/

II just now. OOS with no ties to Oregon. Mission based on GPA/MCAT. Tomorrow will have been 17 weeks from my complete date. The wait is FINALLY over!
This makes me excited for the next week or so (though your success doesn't really reflect on the future/strength of my application). Congrats to the two of you who just got ii.

Accepted today! Interviewed 10/31, so November interviewees, hopefully they'll start getting to you guys soon. Received email and update in portal. IS, LizzyM 72-73

Congrats on your acceptance! Thanks for posting interview date as well. I'm waiting to hear back (12/12 interview) and its nice to have a feeling as to where the adcom is in reviewing the files. Maybe I will see you in August!

Accepted on a Tuesday, huh? Congrats! Sounds like they might be meeting more than once per week now. Hopefully they'll get through the Nov. 5 interview dates soon because this waiting stuff is killing me.

For those who have already scheduled their interviews, how long did it take for you to receive email confirmation of the dates you chose?

II on 1/12!! Im OOS /30/ 3.98. I'm scared that you guys mention that they aren't interviewing non mission-based OOS applicants... But I recieved an II and am not mission-based. I hope it wasn't a mistake, I'm flying out of Florida for this interview! I'm so nervous/excited, wish me luck!

The "diversity" group included a lot when they went over it at my interview. You may be a part of it without knowing?
