There's an image there that can give you a great impression, very quickly.

Essentially the whole administration of the curriculum is different and will be phased into entirely a competancy based model-- you can test out of certain core areas of instruction if you are so skilled. Knowledge isn't so much longitudinal as it is latitudinal now, with many different courses intersecting for better comprehension, and the integration of group work and tech into the learning as well.

I'm sure others have already discussed the curriculum better than I have earlier in the thread if you search for it.

thanks and actually no i cant find any threads about it.

Interviewed 2/18. Still yet to hear anything. I guess no news is better than bad news, but it is killing me not to know anything.

Need advice:
I was accepted to the GEM program at RCSI yesterday and they require an answer by April 6th with a security deposit (a significant amount). At this point I really don't know what to do. OHSU is my top choice but I want to do anything I can to go to med school next year so I am tempted to accept the RCSI offer, even if I have yet to hear anything from OHSU. Has anyone else been in a similar situation or have any advice?

I am unfamiliar with that program but i am guessing it's similar to DO where they require non-refundable deposits. I guess you have to think worst case if you don't get in to OHSU are you going to kick yourself for not putting the deposit down? If you do get in well yeah it stinks to have lost some money but.....you are going to OHSU at that point which would be pretty awesome

Does anyone know what interview dates they're sending decisions out for now? I know the turnaround has been pretty slow. I interviewed first week of February.

Huh, I wonder if I was part of your interview group.

It seems kind of all over the place. Just a few days ago, someone who interviewed on 1/28 and 2/18 were put on hold, so I'm hoping early February interviewees will hear back soon.

Only you can make the decision of whether on not ohsu is worth the wait and risk. Is the program at rsci really cool but a little different then what you expected for your life? Or is it really leaving you wishing and wanting a program like the one at ohsu? Are you set on ohsu because of the culture and education? That saying about flipping a coin because it let's you know which way you really want to go sometimes works! (does that make sense?) when people try to talk you one way or another do you find yourself halfsies either way or leaning hard towards ohsu? You have to dig to find the answer!! Let us know when you do!

Maybe! I interviewed on February 6. Hopefully we will hear something soon!

Gah! I feel like I'm the only person who has heard back for February :/ I hope that's not a bad thing!

if someone is placed on hold, does that mean they might still get rejected or put on a massive waitlist? it seems like if they were going to get rejected then they wouldn't be placed on hold just to be rejected later.... thoughts?

You can be rejected wait listed or accepted after that

I wasn't in your exact situation, but several years ago I did find myself sitting on OHSU's waitlist with another MD/PhD acceptance that would have required me to start on June 1st (and therefore forfeit my chance at OHSU).

Ultimately, I gave up that MD/PhD acceptance in favor of an MD-only spot at another school...entirely so that I would have more time to wait for OHSU. It worked out for me in the end, but I only did it because I was willing to accept my back-up plan. I think the big question for you is less related to OHSU and more related to RCSI...do you want to train in Ireland? Would you be comfortable practicing there if you weren't able to land a residency spot in the US? If not, you may be better off keeping your money, taking your chances on OHSU, and reapplying next year if things don't pan out. Good luck.

Accepted today! Interviewed 1/22. Very excited, loved this school!!

Did you interview on 1/22 or 1/21? I interviewed on January 21st and the 22nd wasn't an option offered. I'm curious as I still haven't heard back yet. Thanks!

On April 30th they will give you a number on the waitlist (ex: 31). They will NOT tell you how many are in the waitlist pool (ex: 31/200), but apparently they will update the portal with the number on the waitlist they just sent an admissions acceptance to. So you could be accepted or rejected, it all just depends on how many spots they have available.

I wouldn't expect any news really until next week or so, they're using the first couple weeks of April to rank

Has anyone received the acceptance/welcome packet in the mail? Trying to get a sense of when it might arrive. Just passed the six weeks mark.

Congratz on the acceptance Tonks!

What will the focus of your PhD be? There is a new School of Public Health at OHSU and the director, faculty, and current students are pretty awesome - if you are undecided or still open to multiple fields.

I believe acceptance packets were received approximately 8 weeks after some people got accepted. There is mention of it earlier in the thread, you will just have to do some clicking and reading to find it. You may have already noticed but the timelines that OHSU provides are on the very optimistic side. I hope the delay does not force in you in a tough position of deciding between schools.

Hey crew, has anyone else started having crazy dreams/nightmares? I had one last night that they rejected me because I got lost driving around town. "If you can't manage basic directions, you certainly can't handle being a doctor!" and thank you subconscious ...

Yeah. Me too! We all want this so badly...
Let's keep hope alive, people!

Ok, so I just creeped the OHSU 2019 FB group list. From what I can tell, a large portion (at least 20) of the 68 members are current OHSU SOM students. I figured this out based on public profile information, and the fact that a lot of them are mutual friends with a current OHSU student that I have on my FB.

Just trying to figure out how much of their class they have filled so far...
I would guess around 40-50.

Yes, I know I'm being neurotic. 😛

There will be an update on your portal that will say when your acceptance packet was mailed out. Same for when they receive it back from you! It was about 6 weeks for me. Congrats on the acceptance!

I dreamt that OHSU called me to say I was accepted but then said, "Oh wait, we meant to call another person who interviewed...SORRY! You were not accepted."

The wait has become agonizing... I've gone back to neurotically checking the portal

Some interesting stats from class of 2018:

OR Residents/OR Heritage = 114
MD = 110
MD/MPH = 4

Non OR Residents = 25
MD = 16
MD/MPH = 2
MD/PHD = 4
WICHE = 3

Planning to complete the PhD in Behavioral Neuroscience. I'm really excited about the program at OHSU--it is exceptional. Thank you for your quick response and support!

I was informed last night that I was discussed at last week’s Admissions Committee meeting and should be hearing back in few days. Let's hope it's good news.

Hope it's good news for you. May I ask when you interviewed?

Did you email Katy to get this information? I am also curious when you interviewed?? Thanks

Interviewed 1/7 Status updated to "On Hold" on 3/24 . The portal is a little confusing, as there is a sentence that says I will be updated to accept, alternate or reject "no later than April 30th". However, the next sentence says that "applicants on hold will remain on hold until April 30th." So April 30th it is. Too bad that if they do end up accepting me, this guarantees that I will have to forfeit a deposit at another school. I'm not raising this point to whine about it, I just want to know everyone's opinion about it. It seems like this would hurt their chances of getting everyone they accept to attend. I loved my visit to OHSO and love the state of Oregon (I graduated from UO and I'm a duck for life) so I'd be ecstatic to be accepted (as I'm sure we all would).

Your deposit?
According to the 7th point in this link, you're not supposed to put down more than $100... https://www.aamc.org/students/apply...afficrulesforadmissionofficers-2015amcas.html
Did you pay more than that?

Portal's been fine for me since the first post about it being down...
