2014-2015 Pennsylvania State University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
How do you know you'll be getting a post-interview hold?

Also do you know if those are done by email or by snail mail.
Holds are via email. Monday marks the 11th week so I'm guessing that I might be placed on hold after being considered at a few meetings. I also browsed through last year's thread and noticed that some people were placed on hold 12 weeks post interview.

So I hadn't heard anything from this school since being complete early august, but I got my II today! Pretty pumped about it, but I'd counted myself out since not hearing back for so long and haven't done as much research on this school as a result. Can anyone here tell me the best place to start? My interview is on Dec. 8, not much notice I know, and I don't want to look like an idiot when I go in there. Thanks ahead of time if anyone helps me.

plenty of time my friend. I'd recommend just knowing what makes the school unique, as well as why you want to go there. search the schools website and find it's selling points, and what makes it appealing to you (for example, lots of schools take pride in their unique curriculum if they have one, know clinical sites, etc). also check out the SDN interview feedback section, it's very helpful.

also obviously prepare your usual why medicine, tell me about yourself, etc. questions. I didn't interview here, but that's basically how I prep for every interview. good luck!

Just got post-interview hold email. Any idea what this means for my app? Would I only be considered if someone decided not to come at the last minute?

post interview hold..interviewed 10/13...is this like a wait list? anyone know how the waitlist movement is at Penn State?

I interviewed that week too. Haven't gotten anything in the email today though. Should I be concerned?

Interviewed 10/8 and this wait is actually KILLING me. Has anyone who interviewed around that time heard back positively or has it all been holds?

Same the wait has been killing me. I have not gotten any email or correspondence since my interview.

Interviewed the second week of October, put on hold.

does anyone know the chances of getting an interview after being placed in the "Continue to review" category?

I would imagine very low, but I'm sure a few do get IIs sometime in feb/mar when people go on second looks, get financial aid info from schools and begin withdrawing.
The impression I got when I interviewed in November was that they had a very big year and filled up faster than expected. Although that seems to be the norm this cycle at all schools from what I'm hearing.

First acceptance today!!! So elated, overwhelmed, relieved, and excited! In-state, interviewed early October, and planning to withdraw my apps from everywhere else. Christmas really came early! I hope you all can feel this same feeling sometime soon, I wish you the best!

II recently! OOS complete way back in july, so very nice surprise! From what I can tell, these are completely open-file interviews, right?

Congrats to those recently accepted!

Congrats! Both will do 😉

Interviewed 10/15, patiently waiting...

I feel like we should hear back soon don't you think? I'm assuming you haven't gotten an email yet either? Do you know if rejection emails went out?

No email yet, haven't heard anyone being rejected either. Looks like most people are hearing after 10 weeks, so we should probably hear by Christmas (assuming it's an acceptance lol).

Penn State, why you gotta be so rude! lol

Congratulations!! Hopefully I see you there in the fall. Merry X-mas fellow classmate 🙂

I am interviewing here this upcoming Wednesday and am staying at the Fairfield Inn! I am flying in Tuesday afternoon. If any other interviewees are in the area and want to check out the town let me know!

Interviewed week of 10/13. No email yet. You think I could hear back by this week?

Accepted on Saturday by snail mail!! Interviewed the first week of October so it was just a little over 8 weeks for me! Hope the everyone hears back soon!

Very much looking forward to it :highfive:. Also, looks like we would need to be down there on July 14th for orientation. So a slightly truncated summer, but 100% worth it in the Book of Sohl🙂.

The early start is the only thing I didn't like about Penn State. Would make for <1 month between graduation and orientation for me because we're on the quarter system here. That being said it was by far my favorite of the schools I interviewed at and if accepted it will be a very hard decision between Penn State and OHSU.

Hey all, I just made the FB group. Go search it / let me know if you can't find it!

Would it be feasible to have a 4:30 pm flight out of Harrisburg after the morning interview session or would that cut it too close? It's a good 200 dollar difference between that flight and later.

I think you'll be okay! The airport is pretty close (<20 minutes by car).

Just be sure to arrange a cab ahead of time if you need one. The airport is small and not busy and the cabs are punctual but expensive.
