2014-2015 Texas Tech University - Lubbock Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does anyone know what percentage pre-matched, and how many are matched? Cheers.

33MCAT and 3.7GPA, good ECs, completed in July. Is it normal not to receive an II for this stat? Anyone in the same boat? Probably something seriously wrong with my application?? Got IIs from three other schools in TX though.

This whole process is a crapshoot. I have higher stats than you and got only three Texas II's too. Life is not fair. Besides, you still have three schools to rank on TMDSAS. I doubt there's anything seriously wrong with your application.

So the last day to interview was the 13th of January?
Yeah, the 13th was the last day. I know b/c that was my date and I tried to reschedule but found out it was the last day of interviews. I read you have 3 interviews? That's not bad; I've only had two but I have lower stats than that....this process really is something. I guess it's true that grades aren't always everything in the end.

So since match day is February 2nd does that mean Tech should be sending out more invites starting that day?

No :/ unfortunately that means there are no more interviews

Is their a certain date after this that Tech will start inviting to fill the other spots? I know in March they make the wait list, so figured before that they would send out some more invites.

No, they fill the waitlist with people who already interviewed but weren't offered an acceptance.

Congrats to you guys! Any idea when they will send out more acceptances to those who interviewed and didn't get one pre-match? I'm assuming sometime this month and then the waitlist in March.

I didn't know they offer any more acceptances after match day? I thought it was just the waitlist reveal in March.

Well I am not 100% sure to be honest. I have heard different things. I know a guy who is a resident at Tech and he did interviews for them and he said he believed in February they will send out more acceptances to try and fill the remaining seats they have after match day and then they will formulate a waitlist. If anyone knows more about this or can clarify please feel free to share!

Could any current students provide an example of a weekly schedule? I tried to find one online but couldn't. Thanks!

Anatomy goes from August through mid-October, and you're gonna be pretty busy with lecture and a lot of lab time. Classes and lab are mandatory for Anatomy.
Biology of Cells and Tissues is mid-October through mid-December. Here you only have class in the morning, usually 8-10 and then lab 10-12, though both class and lab are optional, and lab takes like 30 minutes to look at everything.
Physio is January through mid-March, and is mostly just lecture 8-12 or 9-12, no labs.
Host Defense is mid-March through early June, and I assume it's similar to Physio.

That's first year. Now interspersed between some blocks are P3 weeks, which are pretty much recharge times, where you'll do a lot of meeting with your small group. There are also the occasional P3 days where you'll meet in the afternoon about once a month. You also have DOCS about once a month in the afternoon where you'll learn physical exam techniques and interact with a standardized patient.

Second year is probably similar, but you have classes in the afternoon instead.

If you have any more questions or need me to clarify something, let me know!

Are we supposed to receive something in the mail (as in an official letter or packet) after matching?

Would it be in bad taste to contact the admissions office prior to the wait list being sent out? I did not match here but still hoping for an acceptance and while I don't want to annoy or jump the gun on anything, I also want to let them know as soon as possible that I am still interested.

I don't think it could hurt.

Just wondering, how does PBL differ between Tech and some other schools. Is it mandatory, weekly, etc?

Hey did you guys who were accepted get an email about activating your eRaider account? I tried to but it said I needed an activation code, is anyone else having issues?

I got that email also, but there was no activation code included. I was going to email them today asking about it. Were you able to get it to work?

I had the code but I know several did not. Give the IT number a call and they will provide you with the code.

Did anyone else have the bug that had the red exclamation point at the bottom of their application status page that said you were missing things (but weren't actually missing anything?) I called in about it about a month ago, then followed up last week since all my stuff has been in since beginning of August and they told me it was a bug in their system and it was all received. However, I logged in today and saw that my status changed on the bottom to: Application Complete (Green check mark) Completed: 10/10/2014. Just wondering if this could mean they finally fixed the bug, or if they finally got through my file. I'm crossing my fingers for an II! :xf:

The exact same thing happened to me! they told me on 9/18 that it was a glitch but that my application was in the "screening process" not quite sure what that means though...

The exact same thing happened to me. I called their office probably around 10 times over a month and a half trying to fix it and get rid of the red exclamation mark, but they said it was just a "glitch" in their system and that my application was complete and under review. Two months and three days after my I submitted my completed application, they marked my application as complete with a green check mark on 10/10/2014. Everyone at the front office has insisted that we are fine. However, after talking to some other students, too, I have a feeling that this isn't the case.

It's just my hunch, but unfortunately for us, I think that this glitch delayed the evaluation of our applications by 1 or 2 months, depending on when you originally submitted. Despite what the front office told me, I think the red exclamation mark on our app electronically flagged our applications. I have discussed this issue with other TTUHSC faculty and physicians and they think this is the case, too, unfortunately, and ultimately I believe that it their collective concern that led to a resolve of this issue - albeit a very late resolve.

Just out of curiosity, but when did you two take your MCATs? Everyone I know that this has happened to, including me, took a little bit later MCAT. I took mine in June. I think the glitch (that I think they have now fixed) had to do with submitting an MCAT score onto your app after you had already submitted the primary TMDSAS application. For whatever reason, I think that TTU didn't realize you had a valid MCAT score on your app unless it was already loaded onto your primary app upon submission.

Anyways, I really hope that this funky little glitch doesn't cost us our chances here, but I think there there is at least a chance that it did, unfortunately. Sigh. Glad to know I'm not alone, but I'm sorry to hear that this happened to yall, too. Such a silly and potentially unfair thing to have happened during an already stressful time.

Funny you say that, because I had a late Mcat as well and the exact same thing happened to me. I have IIs at every Texas school except TTU-Lubbock, so it's possible that this indeed affected how our apps are being reviewed.

Did anyone else experience this "glitch" with their secondary application at Texas Tech? The glitch was where your secondary application was marked as incomplete on their website, they insisted your secondary application was actually complete and to not pay any attention to the red exclamation point saying your secondary application is not complete, yet they did not mark the secondary application complete and process it until 10/10/2014.

This was very frustrating for me personally, as my secondary application was completed on 08/07/2014, but Texas Tech did not process it until 10/10/2014. It happened to many other students I talked to at other interviews, too, so I wanted to see if it happened to any others here in addition to us 4 on SDN. Though, I'd bet that it is mostly only people who are going to Texas Tech that remain active in this thread.

After this happened, I ended up not receiving a II here even though my stats were definitely competitive.

I'm sorry, that stinks. I got a II, but I'm also a Tech undergrad right now. My friends at Tech with similar stats all got earlier interviews than me, though. My interview invitation and date was definitely in line with when my secondary application was processed (10/10/2014) rather than when I submitted it (8/07/2014), though that could be due to many other factors.

Their office insisted that my application was complete and under review, but judging from what I've read here and what I've heard from other students at other interviews, I think there is a chance that our application wasn't actually complete until it indicated it was complete online and that there was some sort of glitch.

That exact thing happened to me.

Really? Did your application not process until 10/10/2014, too, even though you submitted it way sooner?

That's exactly right. It wasn't THAT much sooner (9/15/2014), but I still think I had more of a chance if I had been processed in September instead of October.

Does anyone know how many is on the waitlist and is it ranked or unranked?

It's unranked. I'm not sure how many there are

Does anyone know what this year's match list looks like?

Tech is one of the better schools about posting detailed match results in an accessible location on their website. Give it a few more days and they will post their results. I've been checking every day since Friday looking for it.

Put on the waitlist on 3/16. Anyone been pulled off yet? Says on the website not to expect much until early May. Just getting anxious. I did apply to the Tech masters in Biomedical Sciences as a back up as well as the UNTHSC Med Sci Masters.

I was waitlisted a while back and was officially offered a position in the 2015 class last week (April 14th)! They sent the offer via email.

So I'm sure they are sending more offers for waitlisted people around this time too so keep your eye out!

Congrats! Mind sharing the stats, and were you interviewed?

I was quite the unique case when it comes to stats. I went to college, dropped out with bad grades, then came back a few years later and did much better. Because of my poor initial grades though my overall GPA was 3.1 and sGPA of 3.3. Because I knew my GPA was a downer, I worked my ass off to do well on MCAT and managed to get a 35.

And yes I did have an interview back in August. I think a lot of what allowed me to make it in with such a low GPA was my extracurricular/work experience and my interview went quite well. In some aspects they said they favor older individuals with some life experience.
