2014-2015 University of California - Riverside Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
MMI is pretty cool and all of the interviewers were really nice, it is not intense or stressful. I am not allowed to talk about any of the content of the questions, but you should not have any problems if you prepare how you would prepare for a regular interview and also maybe learn a little about MMI. The school is wonderful and I hope to attend 🙂.

Are we allowed to write notes during the MMI at UCR?
Or do we have to leave portfolios/purses outside?
They will give you a sheet for your notes. The sheet will be collected at the end of MMI

To the people who interviewed yesterday, did they let you know when you should here back by?

Does anyone have an e-mail address where we can send pre-interview updates?

Thank you!

Some people were accepted this last week who interviewed in September. I'd imagine some acceptances will go out at the end of November for this group.

Are you sure about this? I thought no admissions would be released until Dec.

I was told by someone on here, not sure the validity of it but I see no reason it would be a lie. We were told December by one person and "at least a month" by another (both in admissions).

I interviewed yesterday, and I was told that they have sent out offers for those who interviewed late September.

anyone still waiting for a secondary? i guess no news is still good news for now...

Just received a secondary!!

AMCAS verified: 9/29

Anyone have any tips on the question about my most scholarly project?

Could I write about a research project I did while studying abroad for a course?

Any tips would be appreciated!

I think that will be fine for the scholarly project.

Has anyone heard back post-interview? This wait is a killer for sure!

You would think a few of the accepted would be here. Kind of sucks that "everyone is on the waitlist until accepted". I was apart of the second interview group so I am not worried yet. But pretty soon I will be. I did not know I was so terrible at waiting. Or that I had such choppy sentences.

I was in first group and panicked already lol.

They're having their third interview some time early November so maybe some more decisions will come out after they're able to get through those applicants?

Nothing but silence since being complete in late July. Still hoping for an II.

Do you think there will be any OOS love here or just your standard Cali school aka no OOS love and extremely tough IS love

I'm an MS1 here and the school's mission is to create doctors for the inland empire area of SoCal. If you don't have ties or a keen interest in practicing in underserved areas like this one, I wouldn't waste my time.

Hi everyone!

I'm currently filling out my secondary application and I just have a few questions.

1. For the question that reads: Is there any specific hardship to which you would like the committee to give special attention in evaluating your application? Please briefly explain below. (Include any geographic, language, economic, academic, physical, or mental factors.)

Would it be a good idea to write about my specific hardship, then write about how I overcame these hardships and how that makes me a better candidate?

2. For the question that reads: Have you received any honors while in college?

Do I just list the awards? Should I separate them by year? Should I use bullet points?

Good luck to everyone who's interviewing soon!!

1. Absolutely right 2. I wouldnt put it in bullets but just write a small paragraph with month and year I received the award

Even if you all don't have ties to the inland empire I would definitely apply. I didn't have any either and was more interested in returning to where I was from (which is in southern California) to practice. You never know what will resonate with admissions.

Totally agree.

"The mission of the UCR School of Medicine is to improve the health of the people of California and, especially, to serve Inland Southern California by training a diverse workforce of physicians and by developing innovative research and health care delivery programs that will improve the health of the medically underserved in the region and become models to be emulated throughout the state and nation."

They want to improve the health of southern California. I myself am from an inland portion outside of the inland empire. Apply! 🙂

HI everyone,

For the part of the secondary where we enter our activities, do we have to list every activity or can we simply pick a subset of activities that we listed our AMCAS? Also, I started some new activities, could I list those on the secondary as well?

Thanks in advance!!

Anybody still waiting for an interview? AMCAS verified mid-August and OOS, but going to grad school in SoCal now.

I've put everything down, but that's just me.
And yeah you can put new activities down, I don't see why not.

I'm thinking that they're probably just taking their time in handing out IIs because they have limited spots with so many applicants, so they're reviewing each applications more carefully?

Either way, we shouldn't lose hope yet since we're still better off than those who unfortunately were given rejections!

I figured as much since they only have 50 spots. No news is good news, right? lol

Competition is fierce then. It's like the Joker breaking the pool stick in half and saying we're going to have try outs.
