2014-2015 University of Cincinnati Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Congrats! It looks like interviews are underway since I saw a couple groups touring the anatomy lab today. @medflyer19 I posted a few videos that I found helpful when I interviewed last year on page 3 of this thread, post #147. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Good luck!
That is so nice of you! Thank you!

I had my interview yesterday and I was blown away by the school.
I ranked UC in the middle of the schools to which I applied, but after the tour and listening to the curriculum and school presentation, UC is my top choice. Two of the most general things I liked about the school were the sense of community they seem to have and the receptivity of the faculty to student feedback about curriculum and exams.
As for preparing for the MMI, get some sleep and be a considerate person.

Oh, no! My two primary characteristics--sleeplessness and nastiness--won't do me any good???:grumpy: Seriously, thank you for the comments.

Does anyone know what days of the week Cincinnati interviews on?

Where do single students usually live? And what's the cost of living like?

$7700 is budgeted for 10 months of rent and $2200 for utilities for the first year.
As for location, it depends on what you want. You can have a convenient place that's a little less nice or a place farther away that a little nicer.
Basically the same as at any school.

I live within walking distance and a good number of my classmates are in the same area or a <10 min drive. Rent is generally around $600-900 even if you live alone, probably cheaper if you have roommates. A perk of living so close is not having to buy a parking pass, but everyone has his/her own preference. Anyways, @dorian baltar pretty much covered the gist of it.

Was complete early July...should I pretty much consider this a silent rejection at this point?

I think it is way too soon, although I do understand the slide to despair.

What does the part on the secondary that asks about special considerations mean? Is this the place where I can explain why I got a bad grade or why I have less research than most people?

Great feedback! Thanks!!!

That would be my assumption...but then again I'm by no means an expert!

Any acceptance notifications out there for those that already interviewed at UC? We're all eager to hear some good news!!!

I was told they would update statuses "around lunchtime" and again "around 12:30".
It has yet to happen.
Needless to say, I'm going crazy now and checking my status every 5 minutes.

(I define "around" as +- 30 minutes. How does everyone else define it?)

Hyde Park/Mt. Lookout/Oakley is the young professional part of town.
Mt. Adams is the trendy bar area with high apt rental costs.
OTR is the hipster area.
Clifton/Corryville is the convenient area around campus.

Yes! Acceptance in the morning. Very excited! I was expecting to hear back from them next week or tomorrow the earliest but it doesn't hurt to get to know it sooner.

An awesome school overall. I liked my experience there!

When was your interview? 9/16?

Huh? I seem to remember pretty clearly them saying that decisions weren't going to come out today.. I interviewed 9/16...

I was certain they the dean of admissions told us that the status for the first two interview dates would be updated on 10/15 around lunch, whether it changed to accept, waitlist, or deny.
Now I'm concerned that he said only acceptances would be updated today.

Yes, 9/16.

It doesn't hurt to hear back from the school earlier. I'm very relieved.
Congratulations!!! (I should have said it before)
Is UC a top choice for you?

I know, I wish I knew already.
At least I still have a little hope they're just behind on 9/22 people.

I do think it will take a while and it may have been unusual for me to hear back from them today.

people that interviewed today: were we supposed to sign a nondisclosure for the MMI? I always hear of that being a rule but I don't recall ever signing anything today...

I was also very surprised that we didn't promise to keep the MMI secret! I was wondering if somehow we promised when we completed the post II documents. BTW--congratulations to all those accepted! Beautiful school, full of friendly people. I was impressed.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :claps::claps::claps::claps:

Hey guys, I was invited to interview on a diversity day a few weeks ago (just a single day one). I just wanted to see if anyone else has been to one of these and could explain what is different about it. I am expecting some extra presentations, but anything else really different? Thanks!

Here's some good news to everyone still waiting for signs of life- received II invite today, complete July 23rd. To all those still waiting, keep the faith, as Abraham Lincoln once said, "it ain't ova till its ova"

Hey, congrats! I was complete right around there, so that makes me feel a lot better. Abraham Lincoln definitely had a way with words, too.

Do you think that people who interviewed on 10/15 will hear back tomorrow?

Do you think that people who interviewed on 10/15 will hear back tomorrow?

I hope so! I'm getting nervous- had a nightmare last night that the admissions office sent me a personalized rejection letter detailing all of my faults....

Do you think that people who interviewed on 10/15 will hear back tomorrow?

I think that the earliest the people who interviewed on 10/15 will hear back is tomorrow. However, that may not be the case for everyone; I know it has varied in the past at what point in the week you receive an email. It might not even be this week.

I interviewed on 10/10 and haven't heard back yet, so it may be a little bit before you guys hear back. They said ~3 weeks at the presentation for us.

I remember that but looking at last year's the thread the next round of decisions came out on this date. I'm guessing your dates decisions and ours will be grouped together

My point is, though, that the committee that reviews applications met last night to make another round of decisions. The committee meets every Tuesday evening bi-weekly at this time in the season (so I have been told, and this was also the case last application cycle). And again, not everyone will hear that soon. They have a convenient note under your current status indicating that a decision might even take up to 8 weeks at certain times of the season, even though they try to keep it within the 3 week mark.

So after saying all that... yeah, who knows? Better to bunker down and wait now.
