2014-2015 University of Maryland Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Any recent acceptances or information? 5 weeks post interview here. Do they mail letters for acceptances and emails for WL or rejections?

I called the office and was told my acceptance had been sent weeks ago to my permanent address, rather than my current address. So if anyone else has 2 different addresses on their AMCAS application, you may want to call the office as well
Thanks for the heads up! When did you interview?

What is a typical turnaround time for the decision..after the interview?

Any February interviewees hear back yet? I think they said something about delays because of all the bad weather...

Again, has anyone who was hold pre interview heard back? I called and sent a LOI, but silent still. Although I am happy (kinda) that I have NOT been officially rejected yet, I can't help but this is a silent rejection, somehow...

Me too, same boat although I didn't send a LOI. It would be nice to get a late II from UMD, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Any west coast folks accepted to UMD? I loved this school on interview day but I am concerned about 1) the OOS cost and 2) my ability to eventually come back to CA. I looked at last years match list and the number of people matched to CA is about 3% but I'm not sure if there's a better way to obtain this information. Also, is it easy enough to gain in-state status after a year? If any current students have some insight that'd be lovely!

Thanks 🙂
Where do you get to see the match list? Could you post the link...Thanx

Rejected vial post dated 3/10. Interviewed last week of January

lol typed too fast January not july. I feel like we are in a lot of the same threads lol But hopefully you can squeeze out a last minute II! Sending good vibes. UMD is an amazing program.

I know... I've seen you around. lol. are you a MD resident?
GA resident actually so this was def a reach since it was a state school. Had a feeling they were going to reject me when my interviewer asked what I was doing interviewing here when I had my own state school. Where are you from?

hahaha. that's funny. Hahaha i had the same question while interviewing at Meharry, they asked me why I didnt apply to UMD or Howard. lol

I am a MD resident, but UMD doesnt love me🙁

Hey all,

Waitlisted here for several months, still my top choice. Two weeks ago, I sent in a very sincere letter of intent + updates to the generic admissions committee email address, but have not received any acknowledgement of its receipt. I know the waitlist letter said that they appreciate updates from waitlisted applicants, so I am wondering if I sent it to the right place?
I know the waitlist has poor odds, but I want to make sure UMD knows how much I love them, just in case. I'm a great fit for the school in terms of academics, research, and my career trajectory, and I met so many CA residents on my interview day who seemed to be interviewing there as a backup to Stanford. They don't love you like I love you, Maryland!

I sent an update to the e-mail address as well, without any receipt, so I just don't think they send one. Best of luck to you, we are in the exact same boat with how we feel about Maryland, and hopefully with a huge dose of luck we could possibly be classmates in the fall!!

Hey everyone, I interviewed here about two months ago and forgot to take notes about Maryland's grading system. Is it a true P/F for the first two years? Or is it high pass/pass/fail for example?

Thank you for your help!

To those who have been accepted: have you guys received any information about financial aid? I submitted the FAFSA back in January and still nothing!

I submitted beginning of Feb and haven't heard anything either

Can anyone provide any insight on Pascault Row apartments? I wish there were pictures up to look! I am just going to live by myself, and want to be close to campus. Is it secure?

Has anyone recently been accepted or rejected? If so, would you mind sharing your interview date please

I don't live there I live in Camden Court but I wouldn't say that it is in the nicest area but I haven't heard of many problems over there. I don't think it is necessarily a bad place but I would suggest looking into Marlboro classic and sailcloth factory for one person apartments but couldn't go wrong with pascault

Recently found out I was accepted via email from financial aid saying "Welcome to UMD Baltimore" lol. Called to confirm that it wasn't just a misleading financial aid email and they said they decided on me that day. I interviewed 2/3.

Thanks for sharing mg2894! I'll keep checking my emails!

When did you interview Lmeredakid?

Does anyone know when decisions are made relative to the interview. I'm sure it changes throughout the year, but if anyone has interviewed recently and got an acceptance, what was the window between the two?

Thank you so much!

I interviewed February 25th, and haven't heard back just yet.

Interviewed Feb. 2, waitlisted :/ found out like a week ago. Anyone know if it's common to be waitlisted (I thought UMD was known to give mostly just yes or no right away) or how likely I am to get off the list?? This is my first choice so really hoping for some good news!

I would suggest calling them up incase you dont hear back after about 5 weeks.....The portal is generally not updated with the status and some handnt received the acceptance in the mail too...pretty erratic that way.

Hi Everyone! I don't mean to troll on this thread but I am currently a pre-med student preparing to apply to med school this summer. UMDSOM is my ultimate dream school. I know that UMDSOM is pretty serious about have a committee letter from your undergrad college. Is there any one here that actually got accepted without having a committee letter from your pre-med adviser. I am actually thinking about dropping out from the whole committee letter process at my school. Our pre-med adviser is extremely biased towards some students and I don't think that she will be able to write an effective letter on my behalf. Also, I've had an interview with a faculty member from the committee and he said some derogatory things to me. I would really like to go to UMDSOM some day, but I'm not comfortable going through the committee. Plus, my undergrad's committee is fairly reputable with UMDSOM, so I have no idea what to do. I would really appreciate some insight here, thanks so much!

Couldn't hurt to call the admissions office and ask what the case is. From my understanding, they will accept faculty letters in place of a committee letter only when the undergraduate school does not have a committee. My advice would be if they do require a committee letter to get as many favorable letters from faculty, research mentors, even bosses as they will allow you to submit. They really do read all the letters.

Waitlisted today... Very bummed. Felt optimistic about this school... OOS GPA: 3.85 MCAT: 32
