2014-2015 University of Massachusetts Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Primary Care. By a long shot.

How would that affect things if I'm interested in surgical specialties. I know the boards are individual, but regarding research and learning opportunities?

Will students not interested in those things not fit in into the culture?

I'd still like to see lists though. While the majority of students might want primary care, i want to see where the ones that don't end up.

Anyone got word on the waitlist movement for MD/PhD?

If anyone has any questions about the school, feel free to PM.

People do so for a grad degree, sure, but also if they've decided to match into something competitive (optho, plastics, derm, ent, ortho, etc). People use the time to work on publishing what they've been doing for MS 1 and 2, and go from there. For many of those fields, it's much harder to check the right boxes unless you start working from pretty early on.

Edit: Just talked to a med student. They often do it between 3rd and 4th year as well.

Yes.

One of my friends who goes there said there should be some more shuffling soon. Fingered crossed!

How many days do applicants have to decide whether they'll attend umass after getting in off the waitlist?

My letter said 2 weeks, but I was holding another acceptance and wanted to make a decision faster. The aid office is good once they get everything in. Took them a few hours to get everything back to me.

Accepted of wait list yesterday! Interviewed in March, wait listed late April.

Accepted off wait list yesterday! Interviewed in March, wait listed late April.

My apologies for multiple posts, phone freaked out! If anyone knows how to delete please feel free 🙂 looking forward to meeting you guys

Accepted off the waitlist today as well!!! So much relief...waitlisted first week of April

Quite happy for all of you! It must be an awesome feeling. I'm still hoping here! Just curious, a question to those accepted off of the waitlist, how often were you contacting the admission department and with what sort of detail?

I updated them twice this cycle with new things I was doing. I also sent a letter of intent in January and another letter of intent 3 weeks ago. Hope that helps and good luck!

Thanks! The well wishes are appreciated. I've doing pretty much the same, emailed about once a month with an update and restating my intent to attend if accepted.

I know this is a bump, but the other thread seems to lack life. Does anyone know what the mean by "Please describe your hopes for your chosen medical specialty, type of practice, and size/type of practice community.". Are they talking about the number of doctors you have, size of hospital, types of services you perform. Or like the number of patients you see, the type of community it in in (rural or city), the size of the town. ect.

I think it's a bit of both.
