Starting to lose hope...do they normally still accept people this late in the season?

From the previous years threads I have read, my impression is that only the wait list is left. I could very well be wrong, but from the school's standpoint they already have over admitted their class so it's simply easier to fill in whatever spots they need with the wait list than risk over admitting.

as someone who interviewed in Feb, for which there is little indication decisions have been released, i have to hold out at least some hope that you are wrong about this...

Over the last few weeks, the only decisions that have come out on here have been that we are on waitlists for a decision to be made later...so sadly, I'm losing hope as well.

There is another meeting next wed, per office -called this am to ask. Previous threads show Dec, Jan, and Feb applicants who have been accepted around late March - early April.

So, if we were wait listed from a December interview we could still get in?

I am not certain, I am sorry /: I was thinking more of news for those who have not heard anything

So this means if we haven't heard anything yet, the soonest we will hear is next Wednesday?

Sorry you said December also, which I guess is confusing because anyone who interviewed in December would've heard something before April. So it makes it sound like they reevaluated people from earlier wait list decisions.

Within 1-2 weeks after the meeting decisions are sent out, per the staff.

I also called this morning and was told the same thing. Next meet is Wednesday and decisions are out 1-2 weeks after.

Rejected. OOS, Interviewed in October, waitlisted in November.

That's possible, but in the wait-list email we received, "final decision on your application will not be made until all applicants being considered for admission have been interviewed and evaluated." Meaning we need to wait until they are finished with everyone they've interviewed (I think the last dates were this month). Given the 8-10 week turnaround, in my case 11 weeks, I personally don't think we will hear any news until after April 30th. Rest assured, by May 15, we will know what the final decision is (accept/reject/ranked alternate list)

Congratulations to those already accepted! Best of luck to anyone on the wait list with me, and I hope those who did not hear good news attend an equally wonderful school next year!

Can anyone comment on the differences between the medical fraternities? I am really interested in applying to live in one but was not sure if there was much of a difference between them besides the different living arrangements.
Thanks!

so reading the "wait list" email, i'm a bit confused by a few things. namely, it reads mostly like a deferred decision (ie- "we'll get back to you at the end of April about whether we really want to accept you, rank 'alternate list' or reject you), does anyone have any insight into what sort of percentage of people one from "wait listed" to one of these other categories? Next, I haven't seen much in terms of whether UMNSOM has an IS and OOS waitlist and/or alternate list, any information on this front? Finally, we many/most of us really have to wait another month before we hear about what our status really is?

Hope everyone is fairing well!

Got my fin aid estimate today..unfortunately worse than I expected (which I didn't think was possibly). Good luck to you all!

Did you get an email?
It was sent via snail mail. I was expecting pure loans but got a need based scholarship. Anyone know if they are renewable and if the award is about the same all 4 years?

The staff at the fin aid office at the U said the awards were renewable. Not sure if the award is the same all through.
Did you get the mail from the TC Med School office?

Anyone know if UMN gives preference to those waitlisted who are not accepted at other schools?

Anyone heard any decisions recently? Interviewed 2/6 and still no word...

I'd be highly shocked if they did. I know that they can see where you have been accepted/waitlisted at this point, so perhaps it fits into the equation, but I'm feel that with the hyper-competitive nature of getting into these schools that it's unlikely.

Yes. I received it from the Twin Cities financial aid office.

I received mine today too. I think if you've submitted your FAFSA info and the online scholarship form that was due in early March you should be getting it in the mail as well.

I interviewed in Feb and got a WL email recently...
Yeah, the waitlist that is really a deferred list. Just a way for them to kick the can some more and delay decisions longer. I think they want to wait and see how many multiple offer folks bail before deciding how many more offers to extend. Just an assumption.

Yea, its a bit of a "dud" email. I suppose its nice to hear something. Biggest thing that is less than exciting about it reading through the thread is there didnt seem to be many/any post-interview rejections, maybe I missed them scrolling through fast, so it doesnt seem that being WL'ed now is much of an indication of which direction (accept, ranked alternate list, reject) the committee may decided of ones application.

I agree--I think it's just a placeholder email, and gives no indication what is next. It's really a drag actually. It doesn't look like this has happened in prior years via SDN, but I could be wrong.

Anyone on the wait list hear anything lately? Or know when we can expect to hear something?

Hi friends! I called a few days ago and was told that there likely won't be any decisions/wait list rankings released until the end of the month. I should probably stop calling before I annoy them to no end...:nailbiting: anyway, thought it'd be helpful for you to know! Hope everyone is hanging in there! Getting closer 🙂

I called yesterday and the lady l spoke to seemed like she wanted to get off the phone before she even picked up. She said April 30 will be when we find out

I got the same feeling from her. She does not seem to like getting calls :/

I might sympathize with her if not for the fact that this school has been by far the worst at communicating with applicants of any I've had the good fortune of dealing with.
I agree about this, sadly. I think it's a trick as an applying student to discern out if this is indicative of the medical school generally, or just the admissions process. It makes me worried!

Yeah...the interviews seemed to be good experiences for most, so it seems it's just the admissions process. Let's hope, anyway! Loved this school!

I'm an MS2 at the U and I love it. It was my number one choice when applying and going here has only confirmed it. Feel free to ask any questions.
I loved my interview day and also many of the people working in admissions, such as Dean Patel. I have zero doubts that it is a fantastic school and really hope to gain admission here. One really cool thing from my interview day was a presentation by Dr. Michael Howell on sleep disorders. Earlier this week a Yahoo! article featuring his work and an interview with him was posted on their main feed. I saw the headline and thought the study sounded familiar, and when I clicked the link I discovered it was in fact the exact same physician from UM that presented to my interview group. My only gripe is with the lack of communication, and lack of punctuality when it does come, that I have experienced post interview. And I imagine there is something unusual about this year in particular that has caused this and that it has surely been discussed on how to remedy this for the next cycle.

I agree there seems to be something unusual, and hope at it can be improved. Applying and interviewing is such an intense and costly process, and it's great when you have an excellent experience with admissions to me it all a little smoother.

I agree with all of the above. It was a great interview experience probably my best and seems like an excellent program and I would be beyond thrilled to attend. I just feel like those who have been wait listed are kind of left in an awkward position. As there is still a possibility of admission/rejection and alternative list. And if we are then put on the alternative list does this mean we shall be at the very end with no hope? It seems like there are just prolonging our decision until they sort out how many more acceptances they can give out which is far but it's frustrating to just sit and wait until April 30th or may 15th according to the email. Especially to those who have no other offers.

Has anybody gotten rejected post interiview? Or do they just put everybody on the waitlist? interviewed early Feb. still haven't heard a single thing 😢

Does anyone know when they decide whether people are off the waitlist or not? I might call the admissions office this week just to tell them that I'm still interested in going.

Hi there--if you scroll up, you'll see that folks were told about April 30, though our letters said May 15....

I think it is supposed to be right on April 30. Good luck to everyone. I just withdrew my application so hopefully there is more waitlist movement.

any current students live in uptown? what do you use for transportation?
Hey I will be a M1 and just secured a place in uptown. In the mornings and evenings they have great express/limited stop routes that bring you right to campus. When school is not in session for the rest of students (such as August) there are fewer bus routes but still looks doable.
