First post! Anyone else from Norman campus applying?

For the secondary application, it says I can submit "additional letters of recommendation" in addition to the committee letter... How many does "additional" letters equate to? 3?

You got a secondary already? I haven't heard anything. To answer your question, AMCAS allows you to submit up to 10 letter entries, so I'd assume that you can submit at most nine others to OU apart from your committee letter.

No secondary yet, but there is information about parts of secondaries on the school's website. It seems like most schools want a maximum of 3-6 letters but since UO didn't specify, I thought I'd ask.

This is one of my two OOS schools. Does anyone know if they consider someone living only a few miles from Oklahoma with a surplus of family in the state "close ties"?

Hey guys, I'm a third year in the Class of 2016, and hopefully I can answer any questions you have.

All that's required is your committee letter plus one other. Extras are fine, but really, you shouldn't need them (unless there's something up with your application in general).

If you have family that you talk to, by all means yes. The "close ties" thing is to prevent someone from claiming a 4th cousin twice removed on their mother's step-uncle's side who they've never actually met in person.

Does anyone know how receptive they are to OOS applicants? Specifically Texas residents? Thanks.

Secondary received today, OOS. I didn't submit AMCAS until July 2nd

Is any other OK resident having problems with the secondary application? I'm trying to save the questions page, but it won't let me save the page unless I select something for question #1... Question #1 says that the question is for nonresidents only.

I did not have that problem when completing my application. Are you using internet explorer? I have heard people have problems with some of the apps using explorer.

I just submitted my secondary. Now I'm very anxious because I don't know if I will get an interview or not. Do you guys know why it is better to submit application early?

They don't start reviewing applications for interview invites until September.

You are right. Since everybody keeps telling me it is important to submit your application as early as possible, so I was wondering if they look at your application more times if you submit your application early? or anything similar to that...

Does anyone have the secondary prompts? Also, chances for OOS c3.5 s3.4 29MCAT (10,10,9), great ECs and LORs. Just submitted primary yesterday 7/31 though (family issues prevented me from getting it in sooner =/ )

Hello. I was accepted last year, but have deferred and will be a part of the 2019 class. Each month, or roughly each month, admissions reviews the applications to decide who is interviewed and then who is accepted. If waitlisted early on, they compare you each month with the new interviewees. So yes, from submitting your secondary to interviewing, earlier is better.

Thank you very much for the information!

OOS - I received a secondary app invitation today. My AMCAS app has not been verified yet.

The secondary app was straight forward inquiring about close ties in Oklahoma.

I got interviewed with one of the last groups and will be an MS1 this fall. I had a 29 MCAT also, but had a 3.8 GPA and strong ties. Your GPA will be closely toeing the line for an interview - if you don't have strong ties, I wouldn't expect to get past the secondary.

EDIT: Figured it was implied but would go ahead and say that I was OOS also.

Do you think that for OOS applicants the school has a higher standards for GPA?

I don't get it. How can OU invites you for secondary without you even having your AMCAS application verified? Made me nervous because I applied on July 10th and have not heard anything back from them.

I am IS and received my secondary the day after I submitted AMCAS, three weeks before I was verified.

Greetings! I am a 1st year at OU CoM so please feel free to drop some questions on me, I will be more than happy to help out anyway I can.

^Same here. I'm an OOS with moderate ties to Oklahoma so I may be able to answer some OOS applicant questions 🙂 also good luck to everyone applying!

My AMCAS was recently verified. Does anyone know when the "App Complete" status, on the OU secondary website, changes from "Your application is NOT ready!" to ready? My LORs are all in.

I called about this problem. OU said they were having a computer issue and it might take a few days. My LOR went complete after around 5 business days.

I'm OOS but live in a rural and medically underserved area, have volunteered at a hospital that serves a rural and underserved population. Some cousins in Oklahoma have encouraged me to apply to Oklahoma because they think I'd feel at home in the state and that the medical school has some focus on rural medicine. Any thoughts from folks who are there now?

Apply, for several reasons. First, your cousins there will count as strong ties. Unless you've got some ridiculous MCAT score and a 4.0, it's a fool's errand to apply OOS without strong ties. Secondly, like most schools in this area, the emphasis on rural (and primary care) is huge. This will help if they grant you an interview as well; they will ask "why Oklahoma?" They'll want a better answer than "I wanna go to a school in a state that starts with O;" and it seems pretty apparent you've got this one covered. Thirdly, it's legitimately a good school and you'd more than likely love it here.

When does OU send their first round of IIs? It looks like last year they were sent out around Sept. 26th. Is that usually when they are first sent out?

Yes it seems to typically be in that neighborhood. I interviewed the last 2 years, with last year's invite coming on 9/26 and the year before that I was invited on 10/4.

When do the OU interviews generally begin? Soon after the school sends out IIs? And when are the first wave of applicants offered admission?

I was in the first interview group both times and had interviews on 10/25 one year and 10/27 the next. The first wave of admissions were sent out 12/19 the first year and 12/17 the next.

janethegallbladder, if you want to know a definitive answer, just call Dotty/Brent and ask. They won't mind; I did it last year.

Just gonna clear up a few things. First interview date last year was Oct 22. IIs first go out near the end of Sept. Not trying to discredit anyone, but there were a few OOS people who interviewed with me in Oct, so it is possible. Also, it is true that admissions offers will first be made just before Christmas. Hope this helps clear up a few things. Please hit me up if you have any questions.

I'm still awaiting news about interview, I completed the primary 8/6 and secondary 8/26, would that be early enough for the first round of interviews. Also when are notifications for October interviews, 9/23-?? I'm also an undergrad at OU sithis! My last question is how much of a disadvantage would it be if I didn't finish my bachelors degree? I'm working full time as a Medical Assistant while taking classes, but I can't take the final few required classes for my degree since I work M-F 8-5. Sciences GPA 3.68, Cum GPA 3.65, MCAT 32 VR10 BS11 PS11. Let me know what you guys think, Thanks!!

II received this morning, 76 Lizzy, IS, complete Aug. 7. Currently attending OU for undergrad.
Haven't chosen an interview date yet, probably going to be Oct. 26, or 27.

Anyone else get an II this morning? Because Oct. 26 is on a Sunday...

There are 5 open dates, two of them are Sundays. But your reluctance is understandable

ITT: all of us without invites.

First of all, congratulations both on the II and the phenomenal 76 Lizzy score. One quick question, did the interview invite come up in your email or did it only appear on the OU secondary application site?

I received an email telling me and then once I logged into the normal application site the interview tab had more information.
