2014-2015 University of Oklahoma Application Thread

Greetings! I am a 1st year at OU CoM so please feel free to drop some questions on me, I will be more than happy to help out anyway I can.
Do you think the AdCOM will consider it a tie to Oklahoma if my husband was a student at the University of Oklahoma and very active in the campus community? He would jump at the chance to go back to OU!

I would definitely mention it if I were you!

For those who interviewed in November, what day do we find out in December?

Does any one know when the last interviews are for OU? Feburary?

Thank you. Do you happen to know how many more rounds are there? :nailbiting:

They have 4 more interview days, so ~120 more interviews. They sent emails for January interviews yesterday. I'm not sure if they will be sending any more emails out or not, but I'm guessing they will be 100% finished calling for interviews by 12/19 (last day of classes for this semester).

What is the best way to find out who is in the School of Community Medicine once acceptances go out? I am starting next year and would like to try to find roommates as soon as possible.

You've already been admitted?

I thought no one would know until December 18th...confused

Received an II today, scheduled in January. Any advice would be appreciated!

Just got a II here! I'll be turning it down, however. Good luck to whoever gets my spot :)

Just be yourself and try to relax. The interviews here are pretty universally well-liked and tolerated. If you're offered an interview, you're good enough to matriculate, it's just a matter of getting a feel for you as a person to see if you'd be a good fit.

If you happen to be interviewing on 1/15, I'll be there giving tours and hanging out with the interviewees.

Good luck!

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about when decisions might get sent out? I emailed admissions a while ago and they told me that they anticipated sending them out the second week of December. But I was wondering if anyone had heard a specific date!

I'd heard the third week of December, and based on the two previous cycles this would be accurate. However, if I were to receive an email or call next week telling me that I am being offered admission I would be glad to hear sooner than expected.

I would expect next week, although you certainly could hear something this week. Things seem to get delayed pretty commonly around this time of year. I don't think our class heard anything until the last week of December.

Usually someone takes the initiative and starts an unofficial Facebook group for their class so people can find roommates asap. Ours is named University of Oklahoma College of Medicine - Class of 2017 if you or someone else wants to model yours off of ours! If you post the link to the group on here, you'll be surprised at how quickly it'll grow.

Sweet. Thanks. I will try to take that initiative.

Hello guys, II for Jan
Does any one have any info on where the SCM students do their rotations ?? What is the quality of these sites compared to say OSU tulsa or OU medical center in OKC ? and can you do any residency in any field ? I have read answers to these questions before but I was just wondering if any one has any close or first hand knowledge
Thanks and good luck to everyone who is interviewing

Deferred. IS, 31, 3.89. Not sure what this means. Is deferred like wait listed? I'm quite surprised to be honest. Bummer.

I believe I was just accepted but I'm still in shock!! Should I reply to the acceptance e-mail?? Edit: that was a stupid question. I was just a bit overwhelmed! :heckyeah:

Well, please explain the deferred process and offer some sort of numbers if you can. What's the percentage accepted vs deferred vs rejected from the first round? I interviewed on one of the first two days. Thanks for your insight.

Deferred is not waitlisted. It means that your application is neither accepted, rejected, or waitlisted, They are holding onto it to reevaluate and make a decision at a later date. I honestly do not know the waitlist movement or deferment percentages at Oklahoma. Possibly call admissions for those estimations if they are even willing to give them.

Thanks. Do you remember if most people that interview early are admitted and the deferred are in a small minority or if it was closer to 50/50? We're a lot of your classmates deferred as you were and then later admitted?

I applied last year and actually decided to defer the acceptance so I will be starting at Oklahoma next year. I unfortunately do not know anything outside of my personal experience. I did however interview in mid November, deferred in December until February, waitlisted in February, and got off the waitlist over the summer.

Good for you. I've already been admitted
at another program and interviewed recently at another school but would prefer to remain at OU, just don't want to waste my energy and time hoping for something that doesn't happen.

Hi! I'm an MS2 SCM trackie. If you're wanting first hand or close knowledge, I would suggest emailing Meredith Talley about 3rd or 4th years who could answer those questions. There aren't that many SCM people who check these forums (is my understanding). The curriculum is the same across the board comparing the two tracks. The difference between OU-OKC and OU-Tulsa is the rotation sizes. Instead of 3-5 people in a group for a rotation, you may have 1-2 which gives you more hands on opportunity and chances to see the things. Rotation sizes are smaller and there is more one-on-one with residents/attendings. There's also a more interdisciplinary aspect that Tulsa sets as a focus. Physicians interact with PAs, Nurses, Social workers, and many more in the real world, and as students you learn from the get go how important those interactions are.

If you are on the SCM for the Class of 2019 and there after, you will be in Tulsa for the most part of your schooling. However during 4th year, depending on your interest you can do rotations in OKC easily. There is no hinderance or downside of residency whichever track you pick.
