2014-2015 University of Texas - Houston Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Basically, they said its a general email that was sent out and that we are on the wait list as well. They will let you know if a spot opens up. :'(

🙁 really hope there is some movement. I think they tend to be cautious with OOS acceptances...thanks for calling though!

No problem. Was curious about that email myself. Glad they cleared it up for us.

I just submitted my SOPHAS application for MD/MPH...has anyone else submitted theirs? How long until you hear anything? Also I am in the sticky situation of being waitlisted but the md/mph app is due Mar 1st so I have to submit without an acceptance, do any current med students have any insight on this predicament?

EDIT: I have spoken to someone in the UTSPH admissions office and they assured me you can apply without an acceptance but I'd still like any insight on how it might or might not be affected by my waitlisted status.

I will be submitting mine soon, so also interested to see if anyone replies...

Was accepted to UTHSCSA in home town. I will most likely withdraw.

I'm assuming the out of state waitlist is separate from the in-state one. Does anyone know for sure?

There will probably be more movement as Baylor makes acceptances but I wouldn't expect much for a while!

Any waitlist movement? A few people posted that they got in around this time last year....

I haven't heard anything. Just trying to stay patient for the next month or two. Does anyone know if there are separate OOS and IS waitlists?

The good news is it seems a lot of Baylor acceptances went out today so maybe the waitlist will start having more movement. I feel like some might be holding on to both acceptances until they know more about finances though

True. When will they know about finances?

Honestly I have no clue sorry! I'm guessing mid-April though? So they'll be able to make an informed decision on which school to chose when they can no longer hold multiple acceptances?

Not yet...It's weird because by this time last year there were a few OOS acceptances off the waitlist. Hopefully we will see some movement soon!

I interviewed as an OOS applicant back in October and my interviewers both said I would accepted for sure , but I am stuck on the wait list! So who knows what they are doing with us.

very silent here as well. Attended the reapplicant workshop where students basically said that about 20% of the class get off the waitlist... but usually happens during May.

Does anyone have a guess at how many are on the wait-list though?

My understanding is that everyone who has interviewed but not offered a spot. So basically like 700...

612 max...assuming no one dropped....also have to take into account those who interviewed but matched into a school they ranked higher.

are there separate waitlists for in state and out of state?

I feel like there probably is since they have a specific percent of students they need to be IS

I called a few weeks ago and asked them about this. They didn't give an outright yes, but said that for an OOS applicant to get accepted off of the waitlist, an OOS accepted student has to withdraw. I interpret that to mean the lists are essentially separate.

^^ why aren't y'all using exclamation marks?? I'd be psyched!! congrats! jealous but glad to see it can happen haha

To withdraw, do we simply write an email to the admissions office?

friend of mine got off the waitlist today! houston is definitely not wasting their time when it comes to the waitlist.
