2014-2015 University of Texas - Houston Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Do students that are holding multiple acceptances (including at least one Texas one) have to give all but one up tomorrow? Or can they hold a Texas acceptance and one OOS acceptance?

Pretty sure you have to choose one. They both have access to the same system and see where else you've been accepted

I'm so confused. I got off the waitlist today at UTH, but I have been holding on to my match offer from another Texas school. Does that mean I have to make my decision between the two today???

No you should have two weeks.

So weird that there is no news for oos waitlist movement this year

Got in off the waitlist Wednesday (IS)
They email. No phone call.

Has anyone accepted off the waitlist sent an update letter or letter of interest?

I would like to know this too. I keep on looking at the waitlist email part that says - "Although it’s a ranked waitlist, our policy is to not release where an applicant is on the waitlist. Any updates, letters of intent, or extra letters of recommendation will not increase your rank on our Medical School's waitlist. At this point, there are no additional steps you need to take. If your status does change, we will contact you by email and/or by telephone." - to remind me just to be patient ugh 🙁

I would keep by the rules.

If you don't mind could you please say when you got your II and what your stats were.
Definitely! My stats are cGPA 3.71 sGPA 3.83 MCAT 32, a lot of clinical experience and employment, no research
I got the II in October and interviewed November 21. I did not send a letter of interest/intent because of what was stated in the wait list email.
Good luck to everyone still on the list, I'm rooting for you guys!!

TMDSAS still says June 1st as the last day to receive an acceptance if you already have one from a Texas school. I don't know if Houston has a typing error or what. (UTSW also says June 1st.)

Yeah I checked tmdsas and UTSW's page as well lol. I emailed one of the deans so I'll post on here what the response is!

She emailed back, it was a mistake on their website :/ It's officially over for those of us with acceptances at other schools, but yay! We'll still be MDs although maybe not at the school we initially were hoping for, but I'm sure we'll fall in love with the school we're at 🙂

You had amazing stats. Any idea why you were booted to waitlist and not given a pre-match or a match offer?

My app was kind of delayed because of my mcat but I really don't know. I'm just happy it worked out 🙂

I just withdrew my acceptance. OOS. Good luck to you OOSers on the waitlist. Hopefully my spot gets reassigned quickly.

OOS acceptance off waitlist!

Congrats on getting in you guys! Would you mind sharing your stats? I would love to get into TX OOS and am planning to apply next cycle…but I'm just trying to figure out what I can do (EC or stats-wise) to maximize my chances. Would really love your input!

Hey guys,

Congrats to those who have been accepted! Is anyone here or know of someone who is looking for housing/roommate? I'm a 26 yr old Indian female working as a research assistant in Neurosurgery at BCM and am looking for another female student to live with. I'll be applying to medical/grad school this year. PM me if you're interested.

Thanks!

Sorry if this was addressed before, I didn't have time to shift through 11 pages of replies, but do you get a call from an unknown number then an email? I have a slew of missed unknown callers from mid-september 2015 and now I'm worried. I didn't think they'd be unknown and I've had bad past experiences with those numbers before.

UTH admissions did call me on a Thursday morning to interview me, asking if I could come in the next day, which I politely declined. Then I got the email afterwards. I recall it did come from a 713-500-xxxx number, if that helps you.
