Current UVA M1 here
I was an IS applicant, attending an above-average in-state university (not UVA), w/ a GPA of 3.9+ and MCAT 32-34, when I applied last year. My application was complete in mid July and I never heard from the Adcom until late December. My interview was scheduled for late January and I was accepted the Friday of that week.
From what I've noticed, the adcom seemed to have a pattern to how they selected applicants for interview. My particular interview day happened to have a majority of IS applicants, other days had more OOS, and some days had a good focus on UVA grads. I know these patterns now because they release interview calendars and basic info (hometown, undergrad, M/F) to us current students for the purposes of student hosting. Maybe this grouping had to do with deciding which interviewers to assign to each day/week?
No one should lose hope just because they haven't heard anything so far. Some very well qualified students in my class were not interviewed until very late in the cycle. UVA also has a quick turn around time for interview scheduling and decisions.
In regards to your actual question, simply emailing the adcom wouldn't be a bad idea. You could maybe ask them to verify that all parts of your application have arrived successfully (in-state form perhaps?--I emailed about this).
Let me know if you guys have any other questions
