2014-2015 Wake Forest University Application Thread

Hello everyone!

Don't mean to distract from D-Day, but I wanted to know if anyone could advise me on how I can go about submitting an update letter. I am having trouble navigating the portal. Is it expected to just email them directly via their admissions email address? Please and thanks! I appreciate the help.

**Good luck (and congrats) to everyone receiving decisions today!

Yeah send it to their admissions email.

Wait listed. I really liked Wake so I guess I will be expressing interest in the coming months.

Has anyone read/seen anything about the possible acceptance rate post-interview? I have my interview here on Monday and I'm getting super excited/nervous! 😀

Also, for those who interviewed/current students, what is the school like?

At my interview I think they said about 50% of interviewees are accepted, which is about standard.

The school was really awesome! It is right in the hospital, which had a very cozy feeling to it. The hospital itself is situated in a nice, quiet, residential area which I liked. Apparently they are building a brand new building to house the medical school, which will be closer to downtown Winston Salem. IIRC that building will be finished by 2016. Everyone I came into contact with during my interview day was very friendly and the atmosphere was extremely relaxed. The interviews were very casual, they just want to get to know you. No need to be nervous, you will have a great experience on your interview day!

Thanks! Did anything in particular stand out about the program to you? I am trying to get a baseline to compare schools and I'm just hoping for some personal experience 🙂

Did those accepted receive emails or did you find out through your application status update?

Anyone know if Wake is receptive to update letters (pre-interview invite)?

Thanks.

They are. I sent it to the admissions email address and got an email reply confirming that it was received and added to my file.
Same here. Actually got a response within 30 minutes of emailing them. Wake Forest has a real on-the-ball admissions office.
In hindsight, I should have followed up to ask how / if they review letters that are added after your file is marked 'complete'. I'm curious if emailing a LoI gets the entire application looked at again, or if it doesn't come into play until after you interview.

Assuming you get to interview, which I'm still holding out hope for. ^_^

+1
hoping this works!! love wake

Sent one in as well. On their site it says they interview 8% of applicants? I feel like an interview would equate to a good chance of acceptance...

2013-2014's numbers, as reported here: https://www.facebook.com/wakeforestsm

8,091 applicants
541 interviewed
238 acceptances
Final class of 120

Sooo 6.7% of applicants were interviewed, and about 44% of those interviewed are accepted.

Went to undergrad here. Have been complete for sometime now. Just sent in a letter of interest/intent earlier this week. If I could just get an interview I think I could seal the deal!! :/

Hey everyone! I have been complete since the second week of September and I haven't heard anything either. It is a tough process, and everyone is qualified one way or another, but the process is random and it is important to send positive vibes to each other throughout! Good luck to everyone! 🙂

Lizzy M 71, complete late august. Nothing

Yeah complete late August and still no word from Wake but I've got an OOS interview at UCSF... The completion dates and interview invites don't seem to be adding up if they're reviewing files in order of completion date. Who knows.

The Adcom meeting to decide the fate of us 10/6 interviewees is today...anybody know if they inform decisions the same day as the meetings or will they let us know tomorrow?
how do you know?!
my interview isn't until december, but id love to know how long we are to wait until decisions are sent!

They tell you on interview day when decisions for your application will be made.

Seconded. I'm an OOS non-trad with strong ties to the area and would love to interview / attend at Wake. Having said that, my application is listed as complete and I have NO idea what I could say over the phone that wouldn't make me sound like begging...
So I called about 4-ish weeks ago to inquire about my status and it was complete. Because I'm really interested in Wake and hoping for an invite; I'm thinking about calling them again since it's been stated in this thread that calling again after a decent amount of time is fine/actually encouraged. However, what should I ask? I know my status is complete; do I just ask that again or would that be really weird/off-putting? What should I say?

Sorry guys, I've been super pre-occupied and haven't had time to check my account. Assuming you're still interested in advice (or for other applicants):

Just be persistent, polite, and friendly. And ask about the school! Resources by which you can learn more about student feedback, the faculty, volunteerism, or research etc. If the phone call doesn't seem to go over too well, write a concise but sincere letter and e-mail them.

Seriously, this place is fantastic. If you want a reason to talk about your interest in coming here: only three months in and we're going to spend next week practicing with community physicians throughout the state. I've heard stories of first year students getting to suture lacerations, assist in endoscopies, and perform full physical exams w. their preceptors. I may be wrong, but these are rare opportunities that only a few schools, Wake included, offers 🙂
