2014-2015 Wake Forest University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
have a Duke interview coming up, was thinking of sending an ITA to wake... should I just vaguely say I have another interview in the area or should I name the school? What is the standard protocol?

also, it looks like Wake interviews M/W/F can anyone confirm/deny? My Duke interview is on a Monday so Tuesdays would be perfect but ofc I'm not gonna be picky haha

MS1 here; I wouldn't name the school. Seems tacky and unnecessary.

ok thanks I've seen conflicting info online saying how specific you should be. I don't want to come off as braggy or tacky like you said, but if the standard is to be straight-up then I would follow that

what percentage of applicants who fill out secondaries get interviews..anyone know?

Yes, was also wondering this. Also, does anyone know when they stop giving out interviews? I've emailed both an update/letter of interest + called their office (over the span of a couple of months) and haven't heard anything 🙁( From what I've heard/researched/stalked on SDN this sounds like an amazing school and I would love to at least have the opportunity to interview here...

I was in the exact same situation, sent an ITA right after I got the duke interview (mid aug II), then I sent one again mid September and got an II from wake a few days later. Ended up interviewing at both in the same week!

My ITA email just says something to the effect of "I will be in the area from this date to this date. An interview from your school at this time would allow me to save time taken off of work and additional travel expenses, though I would be extremely grateful for the opportunity to interview at any time"

Wake interviews "For planning ahead, we interview four days a week, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. The day’s schedule begins at 10:00 a.m. and is over around 3-3:30 p.m. Lunch is provided. "

The interview groups are really small, the scheduling worked out for me but I think I just got really lucky

Good luck!

just looked up status online... says wait list under active consideration... ouch

Any interviews rolling out? Waiting as patiently as I can for that email!!

Has anyone been accepted after being placed on the alternate list (for this application cycle)?

I would also like to know this. Is it an active wait list where they pull from each meeting or is it set aside till spring?

@Pathdocmd do you know the answer to this? Thanks

That depends on how the year goes. Right now it looks like we will not get to the wait list until late March or April, but that depends on the Committee.

The Wake Forest school of medicine is getting a new building located in downtown Winston Salem. Read about it here.

Current student here: My understanding is that the class of 2020 will be the first to use the new facilities, but that could be incorrect or could change - I imagine it's possible the class of 2019 will use it during their second year, but I haven't heard as much. I also know that housing around the current campus is very affordable, but that may not be the case downtown. Couldn't tell you whether it's largely apartments or duplexes or houses... It might also be a slight drag to have to commute from the new campus back to the hospital to see patients, but MS1s only do that about three times a month currently anyway.

But yeah, it definitely won't affect the members of 2019 during their first year, and may not even impact them during their second year.

Question for admitted students:

When you wanted to confirm your spot in the school, did you do that via the email and then send a check or did you send the response with the check? Also, how long does it take for the school to reply and say that they received everything?

I think I sent them separately but I do not think it matters. You will get additional emails about your agreement as a medical student, the first day of school etc. However, I was neurotic so I called them I think twice, once after I sent my acceptance letter and once after the deposit to make sure everything was all set.

So, I'm still a bit confused about your answer. Wake will take the acceptance via email?

They will. I called them to clarify this a few days ago and they said it is totally okay to send an email accepting the offer and then just mail the holding fee to them. But if you prefer you can also send the acceptance via regular mail with the check.

Thanks so much! Hope to meet you at second look!

I'm assuming the update you sent was by email, right? Just send the ITA information as a follow-up email. Student wellness here at Wake is big about practicing self compassion, so don't feel like an idiot.

thank you 🙂

Are we thinking that everyone is (rightfully) celebrating the holidays now? Guess on more movement is first week of Jan right?

Yes, that is correct. It depends on how the year goes.

I appreciate the transparency. The long wait continues… Crossing my fingers. I have interviewed at several other schools since interviewing here, and nothing I have seen compares to what Wake offers.

I just checked my status and noticed a change. It now says: "Your application is complete and will be reviewed continuously throughout the interview season..." and then the rest of the status message is the same. Does this mean I've already been reviewed? Wondering if this is the equivalent of a hold status. Hoping that there might still be a chance of some love from Wake.

Is your status on the same website they gave us to fill out the secondary? I don't seem to have an actual status (just my completed secondary summary), so I'm wondering if I'm looking on the right page. Thanks!!

I'm using the link they gave me in their very first email back in July when they first received my AMCAS. This was before I even received their secondary. The email was from [email protected].

Thanks! Turns out I was looking at the wrong page! I have the same "Your application is complete and will be reviewed continuously throughout the interview season" status...anyone know if this is a hold?

I'm super excited for my interview here soon! I have a few questions for all you awesome, knowledgeable, and incredibly intelligent SDNers:

1. Anyone stay at the Holiday Inn Express Downtown West? Is it an easy walk to the interview? Are there restaurants around within walking distance?

2. How did you get from the airport to the hotel? Did the shuttle listed on the website work well for you? Is it possible to do this without renting a car?

Thanks everyone! Good luck with everything!

For those who interviewed at wake - what was the interview like? We're they stress interviews or just casual ones? How did it feel?

SUPER low stress. You really feel the southern hospitality at wake. You have three interviews for ~20 mins each so they just want to get to know you a bit. Everyone involved with the interview day was so friendly it was just very pleasant and enjoyable. No stress at all.
