2014-2015 Wayne State University Application Thread

Got a rejection letter in the mail today, pre-secondary. Submitted on first day.
 
Are we allowed to send thank you letters to people who interviewed us here; does anyone know? Also, can you really send a thank you letter to the admissions office if someone from there interviewed you?
 
If any of you submitted your secondary and didn't get a confirmation email try calling them. I just called because I re-submitted again on the 9th (initially submitted on 8/19). The woman I spoke to looked through the emails and found my app. It apparently just didn't get marked as complete for some reason, but it's all figured out now. 🙂 Hoping for an II soon!

Does anyone know whether WSU SoM still implements the rolling admission process?
 
Just got an II! WOOHOO! Complete 8/19...

Stats: IS 28MCAT, 3.56 cGPA, 3.70 sGPA, 4.0 Master's GPA

Wayne aims to fill about 1/6th or 1/7th of the class every month starting from October. There is one decision day every month starting from October where they send out offers, status about wait-list etc.
 
Yeah I sort of have to correct you there. The midtown area -- where the school is located -- has about a 95 - 99 percent rental rate right now and it's kind of a landlord's market. I was paying 750 to share a two bedroom close to school and had to move out when the rent was going to go up to 850. It was one of the things I was surprised about when moving to Detroit. There are neighborhoods not that far from school that have cheaper rents, but I like to be within walking distance of the school and the hospitals. Now, some people live in the suburbs -- student favorites are Royal Oak and Ferndale, but you're looking at a 20 minute plus drive and have to content with traffic. One time basically half the class had to miss an exam because it took them all an hour and a half to get to school (the school rescheduled cus so many people missed it). There are more apartment complexes that are going up every day, and with the M1 light rail moving in there will be even more development. I think the midtown area will look very different in the next two years. Just something to keep in mind.

I'm from the Metro Detroit area but have been living on the east coast. Comparatively, 750-850 to share a 2 bedroom is cheap, except maybe in parts of Baltimore or Philly. It would be a downright steal in DC, NY, or Boston. If it were me, I'd probably choose to rent a house with classmates or friends in Royal Oak and commute. Even then, you're just up 75 and if you get out early you can probably beat the traffic (which in my experience is not great, but nothing compared to DC/Philly/NYC) - except in the middle of winter, of course.

I totally get that. I moved from the east coast myself. Just wanted to convey that I myself was surprised at how high the rents were considering what everyone was saying about Detroit from the outside, people telling me how much money I was going to save on rent and whatnot, so I was just offering that for context. That said, I really like living in Detroit itself and would recommend it and could advise on places for anyone on the forum who is thinking of going that route.

Hey guys,

Needed clarification on the 2nd question in the secondary, it says:

"Question II (Non Residents must answer Question A – Michigan residents may choose any of the 3 to answer)"

What questions are Non Residents expected to answer here? I see gibberish after Question A.

BTW Very helpful forum and posts, love it!

Honestly, dude. That's really personal to what you're looking for and if you're having trouble answer that, you need to reexamine why you're applying to Wayne State because you'll have trouble answering it genuinely during interviews.

Does anyone know if Wayne is open to pre interview update/interest letters? Submitted my secondary a month ago and haven't heard anything

Hi Dr. Turkelton, from past experience, I know they accept any update(s) you may have to your AMCAS application, all you have to do is send it to their email: [email protected]. However, I am not certain whether they are receptive to letters of intent, I would give them a call to affirm that option. I hope that was helpful!
 
Does anyone have an idea how they screen for secondaries? Do ya'll think they read our PS and EC's?

Thanks! Gave them a call and they said they accept updates at any point in the cycle. But I got my interview invite before I had a chance to write one up! Any other October 13th interviewers?
