This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Received a rejection via snail mail. Interviewed in November and was put on the waitlist shortly after. 3.5/30
Um....that sucks. Didn't know they could do that.

Yikes, I didn't expect them to reject from the waitlist before the end of the summer... 😱

Sorry to hear that @Stethonope, I hope you have good news elsewhere!

Accepted !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I'm dying of happiness. Got the email just now. This is my first and only acceptance of the cycle and I'm so happy it was WVU. OOS interviewed exactly one week ago. Can't wait for August to come.

Congratulations!! If you don't mind me asking, what were your stats, and do you have any ties to the state? Congrats again!
Mcat <25, sgpa 3.90 cgpa >3.98, lots of great ECs, Minority student but not URM, no ties and stated so in the interview. Have a strong interest in rural medicine. I'm surprised yet very thankful for this. Good luck with your acceptances! No matter what never lose faith in yourself. You've all worked vewh hard for this.

I have similar stats and am interviewing on Feb. 16th. Very glad to hear of your acceptance because this is my #1 school!

For those who are getting waitlisted.... Are the majority of you hearing via email or snail mail? Also, are you hearing one week or two weeks after your interview? Is there anyone who interviewed on 1/14/15 that has heard back?

I heard about one week after. I got an email saying my decision was in the mail, and then I received a letter informing me I was waitlisted. The trend seems to be if you are accepted they will notify you in the initial email followed by an acceptance letter in the mail.

For those accepted, how long did it take for the acceptance letter to arrive??

Today it has been 4 business day. Im anxious. Im still ecstatic. I won't believe it until I touch the letter with my own hands lol

GOT ACCEPTED TODAY!!!!!
I interviewed last week 1/21 MCAT 30 cGPA 3.9 OOS
I got the email around 4pm (in case anybody is wondering)
Great school. I wasn't expecting an acceptance from them AT ALL since my interview did not go as well as I hoped and I am OOS with no ties to West VA 🙂
SOOOOO HAPPY!!!

I got accepted today, and I also interviewed on 1/21!! So excited 🙂

Congratulations to you as well!! I am trying to guess who you are also! Any hints? I was the one that kind of knew French with an interest in Infectious Disease if that helps?!
🙂

Congratulations to those accepted! MS2 here, procrastinating from today's lectures. Interesting to see a diversity of OOSers applying, interviewing and being accepted.

Hi! Those of you who are currently attending WVU and those who are planning on going there: got any tips on housing? I am on the hunt now and was wondering if there is any particular place where I should look!

I would look into Georgetown Apartments, Chateau, Mountain Valley, and "the Lofts". Most of the current medical students I have talked to have recommended these places. Georgetown and Chateau are within walking distance, I believe.

ACCEPTED off the waitlist just now!!!! :soexcited:My first acceptance and this is one of my top choices, I'm so excited!

Congrats! Did not know they would be pulling from the waitlist so early. Hope us other waitlisters get some good news.

Thank you! I was shocked as well, I did not expect to hear anything until at least May or beyond. I'm crossing my fingers for the rest of the waitlisters, I hope you get good news soon! Best of luck to you!

Did you at any point send them a post-interview update or LOI after being waitlisted? Or was this just a pleasant surprise? I was waitlisted way back in October and have sent 1 post-waitlist update.

Chateau and Georgetown are pretty nice and really close by. Also look into Copperfield Court. Those are the big 3 within walking distance, but there are a few others. Be a bit weary of the Lofts as there may be a lot of noisy undergrads and it's not too close. I've heard okay things about Mountain Valley, but it's a bit of a drive with some not so great roads in the snow. If you're okay with driving, but still want to be pretty close, the Villas are nice. Not having to drive is amazing though. Especially on all these hills in the winter months!

I actually didn't. I was drafting an update (same update I sent to other schools with my 2 activities updates, but additionally tailored specifically to WVU thanking them for the opportunity to interview and expressing my interest etc.). I was planning to send it next week, but now I don't have to, a pleasant surprise indeed! I hope you hear good news soon Ace!

I apologize if this has been answered before: Are the interviews here 1 on 1? Or 2 adcoms to 1 interviewee? Have an interview here on 2/16/15, looking for any tips. OOS from MD.

The search button is your friend. You will be interviewed by a 2-person panel. You may even be interviewed by the Dean herself (like I was), so be ready lol.

The dean is a man haha. You probably had one of the deans of admissions (maybe Dr. Hazard?). Just wanted to clear that up to avoid any confusion!

Sorry, that's who I meant (Dr. Hazard) - the admissions dean.

My 2 on 1 was with a faculty member and a 4th year student.

2 on 1. The interviewers will know every little detail from your application. Make sure you can elaborate on your shadowing or any other medical experience. They can ask you if you remember a specific patient case or what you learned from that specific clinical experience. Since you're an OOS, make sure you know why you want to go to WV in case you don't have the close ties to the state as a reason. Be honest, be yourself, don't act a role, seriously be yourself . You can laugh and do small hand gestures if that comes naturally to you and helps you be less nervous. Always maintain a good and positive posture and attitude, of course. They seriously just want to get to know you. Highlight anything from your app you think might make you stand out, make it sound important to the interviewer because I'm sure it was to you. Don't worry about ethical questions or anything that you think might throw you back, there will be general and more specific questions from your app and your life. Make sure you can know your weakness, for me it was the mcat and I tried to explain the interviewers what happened and so on. For you might be the GPA or something else, idk. Always finish saying your strength and how it will help you to not make the same mistakes in the future.

If I were you I will sit with my primary and secondary app, I would go experience by experience and I would think of all the possible questions they might ask about each one of them . For example:

Research : what did I do? what experimental techniques I used? what was the hypothesis? what were my findings? HOW LONG I SPENT DOING RESERACH? (be consistent w/ your app)
Shadowing: who did I shadow? what did I do? how did this experience make me understand the life of a physician? recall a specific case (best way to see if you're telling the truth)

YOU CAN THINK OF MILLIONS OF QUESTIONS.

More importantly, enjoy the day and be calm. There is nothing worry about. I was so nervous because I have a strong accent due to the fact that I'm a recent immigrant and was worry the interviewers might have trouble understanding me hahaha. Talk to the other interviewees and get to know them. They might be your future best friends, husband or wife hahaha. WVU is so a great schoow/ such great people and they will make you feel as if you were home.

GOOD LUCK! let me know how it goes.

Wow, thank you for the advice!

I would not recommend the Lofts. Chateau and Georgetown are okay, at best. Best bet is to look for townhouses to rent. There are several around medical campus, and they all have the same layout. Some townhouse locations are Silverview Court, Stone Gate Circle, and another one on Valley View Rd

In my opinion Chateau and Georgetown (and Copperfield) are more than okay for a student's purposes and much cheaper. If budget is an issue (like it is for a lot of us haha) don't count these complexes out. All of the apartments I've been in from all 3 are pretty awesome. Especially compared to downtown housing haha if you can afford town houses then go for it, but I just wanted to let you guys know that these cheaper options (which aren't even that cheap if you're living by yourself) are definitely nice!

When is the expected time for wait-list movement to start?
There has been minimal (and unexpected) movement already, but on my interview day they told us the bulk will be after they have finished interviewing, as well as after April 30th of course.

Thank you!! I saw that someone had been accepted off of the wait-list so that put the thought in my head. So now, I'm feverishly waiting for some news! Haha.

Figured I should post on here that I just got waitlisted from here today. OOS, interviewed 2/7, cGPA: 3.76, sGPA:3.83, 29 MCAT

I just heard from financial aid and I was offered an $80,000 scholarship for the 4 years. So that would be $20,000 a year. I'm OSS. I really would like to attend the school. Can current students please shed some light about their experience at WVU. Thanks
That's great. They're giving me a lot less than that. I wondered if it is based on financial need. Mind telling if you already applied to fafsa? Congrats again

How did they let you know of your financial aid package; email or snail mail?
