2015-2016 Brown University (Alpert) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
sure! when I signed up (albeit a couple weeks ago), there were two dates, both in mid-Nov.

Anyone having trouble accessing the Brown application website???
It could be cookies on my computer preventing me from accessing it, but I can't get onto the: https://admissions.med.brown.edu
website to check my status.

A year ago this week, there was a barrage of rejections sent out from Brown.
Wondering if it'll be coming soon...

While every year is slightly different due to flow, II have been sent out as late as early January in the past. Be advised that this is not the norm, and that the vast majority are sent out well before this date. But, you should never interpret radio silence to mean rejection.
Good luck everyone, and congrats to those with early IIs.

Any II's lately??
well...according to last year's thread, a huge chunk of us will be getting the ax soon. it's about that time. so at least that news will be coming down the pipe 🙂 +pissed+

It seems like very few of us on SDN have heard anything, II or rejection, from Brown. Wonder if there just aren't as many SDNers who applied to Brown or if they've just been slow in getting responses out to folks. I'm still cautiously optimistic about this school, despite complete silence for nearly 3 months

They are probably reviewing their UG students and rock-star apps first. I wasn't aware of their heavy UG bias prior to applying, so I don't expect to hear much from them honestly.

Has anyone on here interviewed yet? I'd love to hear how it went!

I'm scheduled to interview later this month.

Where did you hear about this "heavy UG bias" ? Not much truth there....

Not sure specifically, I just remember reading it somewhere on SDN with several people corroborating that statement....not sure who started that notion but apparently it has persisted for years on SDN. Maybe that preference is dated and no longer the case?

It's not really a preference for UG applicants. It's just that about half of Brown's enrollment is made up of Brown grads who were offered conditional acceptance to Alpert when they applied for undergrad (through the PLME program). If you want to get nit-picky, they probably have more of a bias AGAINST their own alums who didn't come through this program since by default, each class is already half Brown alums. 🙂

Ahh, gotcha. Makes sense. Nonetheless, the effect is the same.

Can anyone comment on their interview day experience? Just looking for info like what type of interview, how many, etc. Thanks!

Created an account to respond to your and thatwouldbeanarchy's languishing questions about the interview experience. I do think there's a place on this forum where you can read interview reports...however, I am not sure where that is. Might be worth looking, though! Anyway, like many before me, I fell in love with Brown during my interview day. There were 2 30-minute interviews. Some people got student interviewers, but most got 2 non-students (either Admissions folks or local docs). My interviews were very conversational, and both my interviewers had read my file closely. The whole day ran from 10-4 and was a lot of fun.

Is it worth anything to send in a letter of interest? Though it seems more futile than usual at this point.

That or a letter of intent, although only if you're post-interview. They explicitly stated that they prefer candidates for whom Brown is their top choice, and are thus more open to extending offers to such candidates.

I get the idea from adcoms on this board that sending one pre-interview would be a bad idea.

hotels/places to see in Providence?

If you go to status there's now just a message saying 'you are no longer being considered' in red font.

I completed the application on July 20, but my MCAT score didn't come in until September 9. And no silent rejection yet! OOS LizzyM~72. I guess it's not the worst case?

Hmm, I'm not seeing this. Where exactly is it? Secondary under "Status"? I see 4 green checks but that's it.

Oh man, rejected. How ya gonna play me like that and give me bad juju the night before an interview, Brown?

complete mid july and just rejected. I feel like silent rejections are worse than an actual email. Like breaking up with someone you've been casually dating by just not communicating with them anymore. Although Brown took our money and couldn't email us. Ouch.

Silent reject as well. Good luck everyone!

Rejected! I don't really care though...can't really remember why I added this school. I think I meant to add Dartmouth because I'm nontrad and messed up or something.

+1 I can't remember why I added Brown either considering I had no interest in going to this school in the first place. But let's face it, Dartmouth is Brown's classy younger bro 😉

Except I forgot to apply to Dartmouth. HAHA I think somewhere in my secondary-logged brain, I thought they were the same school or something.
