So is the research essay truly optional? But if you have done research probably highly recommended?

Is there truly no character limit at all given for the open-ended additional information essay? Pre-writing here.

It doesn't give a character limit but I would be surprised if you had that much additional information that your essay was more than 1000 characters...

Fair enough. Thanks for the info.

For the secondary, will the university track committee be able to read my college track answers and vice versa? I'm wondering because I feel that my university track answers are really strong because I pre-wrote them, whereas my college track ones are still good, but not as good as my university track ones.

My understanding is that College Track sees all of the essays. University Track only sees the essays that do not say 'Required for College Track'

Haven't received the secondary yet but I'm doing some prewriting - are you guys including spaces in your character limits?

Happy to have received secondary, cursing myself for not pre-writing this one. Who am I kidding, cursing myself for not pre-writing 95% of these...This will have to wait until next weekend, unfortunately.

Has anyone who applied to only CT received a secondary yet?

EDIT: I realized that I can't even select CT yet...I would need the secondary. 🙁

still no secondary for me..verified 6/4 and this is my top choice! Come on Case you're killin me

For the research secondary essay (for this school or in general), are you guys citing sources for background info?

I'm wondering this as well. Has anyone cited sources? Would you guys consider in-text citations to be sufficient or also a small entry at the bottom as well?
Thanks in advance.

o.o did not even think about this...I hope they aren't expecting it.

Definitely haven't cited my sources so far. Wouldn't expect them to check for something like that whatsoever.

I feel like given the space constraint, they can't expect citations.

Hey guys, I am about to start prewriting my Case essays. If we are applying to both the UT and the CT, are there two applications or just one? If we are doing just CT, do we need to do all of the UT + 3 others for CT? Thanks.

Also, for the research question: what if we have worked on two significant, yet different projects? Does it make sense to talk about both individually?

Case sends them in batches I believe, this happened last year as well. Be sure to check your spam though.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you only write essays for the track you're considering. For example, I plan to apply only to the CT track, so I didn't pre-write any of the UT essays.

I did use two citations but these were for 2 sentences out of the entire page. I really felt like I needed to use them and I stand by it. I'm not including the "Works Cited" information at the end into the character count.

From my understanding, CT receives all three of the UT essays (except the optional essay specifically for UT) and the four CT essays. Anyone else?

I can't be certain because my secondary application was established to apply for both.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo /sob. Back to pre-writing...

Can anyone who has the secondary confirm this? Is there anything on the secondary that says CT applicants have to write 6 total essays rather than just the 3 CT-specific ones? (Otherwise, I don't see the point of applying to just one track and not both...)

I understand the college track requires some sort of research experience. That being said, I highly doubt the research essay will be optional in any way. I'm sorry

Hmm...I was digging through last year's thread, and what I found was:

The research essay for university track (#6 on the application) is followed by "If you are applying to the College and MSTP tracks, please indicate this in the box below in place of the full essay." So we don't do this essay if applying to college track or MSTP? I don't really see a similar question required for the College track, so it seems weird that we would just not have to answer this prompt.

I don't have the secondary, so I can't verify any of this, which is why I ask. If need be, I'll write it; I just prefer not to if it's unnecessary.

Is anyone else finding it impossible to get a photo less than 100kb? I know this is optional, but I have a photo available. It's just like 20x that memory.

Try a thumbnail of the photo u are trying to upload. Or take a screenshot of it to reduce quality

Received the secondary this morning! You all were right; the Challenge and Research essays are indeed required for the CT track this year. Thanks for prepping me last night; I was able to start working on the research essay. 🙂

So what are your thoughts on describing multiple research projects?

So what are your thoughts on describing multiple research projects?
I described only one project, since you have so much to talk about. So pick your favorite, or the one you can talk most about. If you did multiple mini projects, discussed the overarching goal of the lab and what those mini projects were all collectively meant to do. Hope this helps!

Does anyone know the stats for the College Track on how many apply/interview/accepted? I was looking on their website and I couldn't find any numbers

Shameless bump, but for all those with College Track questions there's a nice shiny new separate thread for this year.

Despite the fact that UP and CT seem kind of like a 2-for-1 secondary deal, they are truly separate programs. And just in case anyone is wondering, being rejected/II'd from one track does not imply that you'll be rejected/II'd from the other. Good luck guys! :luck:

Question. So I'm assuming that the GPA and MCAT given on the MSAR for Case are for both UT and CT. I called the admissions office and the lady said she she was not sure. She told me to email the dean of admissions but I haven't gotten a response yet. Does anyone know if there is data that gives the average GPA and MCAT for only UT students? I would imagine including the CT students brings the numbers up slightly.

I would assume all of MSAR information is a combination of both because on the CASE website, it says the average entering class size for the University Program is 140. But on MSAR is says that the entering class size is 207. So I think it is a combination of UP, CT, and MSTP for all of the information.

That's what I figured. I just wonder how much including the CT kids increases the reported average gpa/mcat. Cuz I might feel a little better about my chances if I knew the average mcat for just UT kids lol.

Thats a good question. I wouldn't think the CT program creates a big difference. Their stats are probably slightly higher but the class size is so small.

I don't know for certain, but I do recall hearing on my CCLCM interview day that average post-graduation debt for CWRU was calculated from both CT and UP students... and CT students get free tuition, so that probably distorts the numbers a bit. 😉

Sadly, I haven't come across any CT-only stat info.

Yup stats are averaged from both

I finally got around to submitting this one despite receiving it over a week ago! Working 7 days a week every week certainly takes its toll.

The research one was an absolute BREEZE for me. I just rehashed my unpublished abstract and added a few more details to explain why I used some methods. Thank god for my graduate science writing abilities.... It reads virtually like a paper you'd find in a science journal!

Submitted just now 😛

Good luck everyone!
