Current Students!
Where do most medical students live? Any places you recommend, or places to avoid?
Not sure if I want a roommate or not
People typically live in apartments in and around the area. Pleasant view apartment offers discount to medical students. On the Quillen Student website, there are announcements for vacancies, roommates. To get to the is website go to Quillen website, > current students > student services> housing. It's good to start looking around March as many students that graduate in May will be updating vacancies. A lot of people live in houses and share the space with fellow students. But if you have family or a significant other, it might be best to get an apartment or a townhouse.

Any recent interviewees? Just curious when the stats page might be updated.

Still waiting for interview here. Didn't receive rejection either 🙁
Don't be discouraged. There are still 90 or so applications that have yet to be terminated. They have only interviewed 120 so far. They accepted 112 out of 249 interviews last year. I can imagine they will be similar this year. Of course that should be taken with a grain of salt, but their interview season is not yet over.

Pulling for y'all! Good luck!

Thanks! That would be great... Also does your friend enjoy Quillen and the surrounding area?
Oh yea he absolutely loves it and is all about the mission of the school. He has been so hopeful for me throughout the cycle.

But he just said that he doesn't think they have a formal second look, but he scheduled one and they were very accommodating of his request. So that may be worthwhile to pursue.

So...chances are my girlfriend will be getting a job in Kingsport. Worth a letter of intent? If she does get it and I get into Quillen, I will attend.

I'd say it couldn't hurt. Have you interviewed already? Quillen is all about ties and relationships. I'd definitely give it a try.

Yep. I interviewed October 29th! I will definitely wait until I know for sure before I do that, but I think it would be helpful.

Though now that they've started to reject off of the hold list, I will regret checking the mail. A bit difficult when you're hoping for a letter from UTHSC also in the mail...

Quillen is a great medical community in beautiful East Tennessee. I interviewed in past , fingers crossed for one this year..

My application was determined "not currently competitive" and terminated by mail immediately after my interview.

Good news is that UTHSC asked me to come on down to Memphis for an interview next week on the 9th.

Good Luck to anyone still trying to get accepted to Quillen!

Has anyone successfully emailed someone in admissions and gotten a response? I tried asking about setting up a 2nd look but never heard back so wondering what email I should send it to

I've emailed them 3 times the last few months, and I've never received a response either. Several of my friends have also never received responses to emails, so you definitely aren't alone

Well guys, I officially withdrew my acceptance today. It breaks my heart to not attend ETSU but it makes sense for my family and I that I attend the military's medical school (USUHS) since I have been Active Duty for over 11 years. Good luck to the applicants and the students that will be starting at ETSU in the fall! One day when I retire I hope to move back to Johnson City and practice as a physician there.

I've also not received any responses. I'd try and call them.

Congrats on deciding and congrats on USUHS!

I know I'm interviewing a bit late (March 24th) but can someone provide some insight into the interview questions? Do I have a decent shot of getting in at this point?

I think you have a pretty good shot, they definitely still have spots open. Best advice I can give is to really figure out how you fit their mission. Don't force it by saying definitely rural primary care. Just have an honest correlation between you to all and theirs. That's what they are looking for the most!

My 2 interviews were very different,1 was with a community member that told me she was "judging my heart" and she just wanted to genuinely know me, my family, my experiences, etc. and my other interview was very relaxed but focused on my future career and the current outlook of medicine (how mid levels are changing things, Obamacare, what should we change about Obamacare, etc)

Hope that helps!

I've had silence since submitting secondary.. does this mean that all interview invites have been given out? Looks like on their entering class stats that they still got a good amount of ii's to give out..

I wouldn't be too discouraged. Last year the last interview was early April, so there is still a bit of time until then! But I agree, it does seem like there are a decent amount left to give out if they follow the trends of previous years.

Just relax. They genuinely want to get to know you and get a feel for your motivations. Both of my interviewers were so nice.
Quillen is all about fit, they wouldn't interview you if they didn't think you could handle it. They really try to stress this at the interview day.
Good luck!

2/16 II for 3/1. Withdrawing. If anyone needs a hotel room for the night of Monday, 2/29, feel free to PM me. I received an acceptance from another school soon after I booked a nonrefundable room that's really close to campus and comes with a complimentary hot breakfast buffet.

I was accepted back in late October.
I can tell you both my interviews were very relaxed. Each took about 35 minutes ( scheduled for a max 1 hour). I was worried because it was so short I missed something. They talked to me about my family, my college experience, what I liked to do for fun, and future goals.. I spent 10 minutes talking about how to make Indian food with one guy and 10 minutes talking about the NFL games for the upcoming week another guy haha. Of course they did ask me the standard interview questions that you should be ready for.

Some things that surprised me. One of the interviewers asked me to smell compounds and tell him what they were. He then showed me a toy and asked me to figure out how the toy worked. I got all of the questions wrong, but that was not the point. He wanted to see how you observe and how you reacted to stress and new situations.
Also both asked me about the health care reforms. I had general ideas and opinions, but nothing specific. Look stuff up

Any accepted students done anything after the Certiphi check? It worries me that I haven't done anything or gotten any correspondence with them

I called office of admissions back in December and they said to expect something by late February

I wonder if ETSU's class size will change from last year? So far their site says 60 accepted for the 2016 entering class and 72 matriculated last year. Barring any large change, that's only a dozen spots left!

OOS (just over the border) non-traditional applicant here with an interview in 2 weeks. Would love to stay in the area!

That is very likely to change as people go down with multiple acceptances to one. I'm pretty sure at my interview in October, they said they were staying consistent with the class size. But it does seem as if they haven't really interviewed or accepted as many as in previous years.

Girlfriend got a job in Kingsport and she will be accepting. Sending a letter of intent very soon! Fingers crossed!

So jealous!! That's my biggest issue right now.... Loved the school and got accepted but I don't think the Fiance can find a job around there!

Yea that is difficult. She has been trying so hard to find one so hopefully the admissions committee will take that into account!
