Hey guys - my first author pub just got accepted for publication and I was informed via email today. I'm on hold for re-review and I would like to update GW. Any idea how I go about updating GW, as I only received an email? Any help would e greatly appreciated.

There's an Update section in your portal with a text box and options for attaching etc.

Has anyone received a rejection ? Or is everyone just getting put on hold for now?

huh. i never received an email from GWU, but never thought to check my portal until seeing this thread. It just says that my application has been reviewed and is now on-hold for review at a later time, lol. I submitted my application on 8/10 while my MCAT score wasn't posted until 08/18. The neurotic and paranoid premed in me hopes that they didnt somehow review my application between 8/10 - 8/18 without my MCAT score and decided to throw my application on the backburner after seeing it wasn't there, lol.

Hi All,

I would like to preface this by saying, this is my first post and I'm not too fond of SDN because I think there is a lot of misinformation and unnecessary posts that lead to premeds becoming even more neurotic about the application process but I do understand that the application cycle is daunting and an anxiety provoking time so I decided to post this in hopes it helps someone gain a little insight.

I interviewed at GW last week and cannot emphasize enough, just how great of a experience I had. The campus is beautiful and the staff was warm and welcoming. Between interviewing with a faculty member and a student, I didn't feel like I was being grilled once. It was more of an informal talk which I assume is to make sure you're a human being and not a premed robot who just regurgitates medical terminology.

As with any interview process, I would study up on their program and what clinical opportunities they have available to students. I would also take a little time and read up on the D.C. metro area and the healthcare challenges they face in an urban environment with significant disparities. Perhaps most importantly, be yourself and be genuine.

Overall, I believe GW has an excellent program with awesome students and faculty and I would consider myself lucky to attend. Last thing I want to say is, I have been working for a prestigious institution for several years now and all the residents and attendings who went to GW that I have met at work are EXCELLENT clinicians. So from my own experience interviewing at GW, the students and faculty and the doctors who I have had the pleasure of meeting, I have quite a bit of evidence of how great this school is at training clinicians.

Anyway, if you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to PM me.

Thanks for reading and good luck!

Hey guys. Do you think that I have a shot at this school? I took the MCAT twice and have an accumulative score of 11P/7V/12B (since this school takes the highest subsection scores) and a cGPA and sGPA of ~3.65 (with my last two years of studies being GPA~3.85 with 48-credits of science courses). I am ED and not an URM. Anyone applied with similar stats and received an II?

@Saharat MDapplicants.com can give you a large list of people with all sorts of stats (and similar to yours) and you can see their success in applying. Goodluck.

Complete 8/21; just got put on hold today.

I know they interview till March but does anybody know when they stop sending the invites out for that?

Complete 8/12, got put on hold sometime during the last week. Hooray for news!

Do you mind sharing when you were complete?
I was sent an email stating that I was missing a letter of recommendation on 8/25, sent the letter on 8/26, was sent an email on 8/27 confirming that they received the letter. So I assume 8/27? Never received a formal "application complete" email prior to the II. However, I submitted my secondary application on 7/12. Hope that helps.

Anyone seen their app go straight from complete to under review?

Hey ya'll. I submitted an update on Friday, but still no confirmation email that the update has been received. Isn't this a pretty instantaneous process?

I got a confirmation email within a few minutes. I don't think we see anything about the update in the portal though.

What kinds of informations are considered updates? Like new job?

My advisor once told me to only submit an update if "what you're going to say is going to seriously affect your chances of getting in." I'm not sure if that's great advice, but it's what I'm sticking to. She said to avoid things like "I just got a job at X company doing Y" or "I'm writing a paper that will be submitted to journals X,Y and Z" and only update on things like "I just got a job doing clinical research" or "my paper was just accepted and will be published" etc. I think the take home message is to make sure whatever you write is worth the adcom's time to read.

Who else will I see tomorrow? 😀 Super excited, good luck to everyone!

Should in the area messages be put in the updates box in the portal or emailed to the admissions office?

Placed on hold for re-review!
A little disappointing because this was one of the more annoying secondaries I had to complete but I did put a ton of effort into it 🙁

+1. 🙁 Does GW send out early rejections?

I dont think they have rejected anyone yet actually ! I could be wrong tho but from the posts my understanding is they either give you an II or they put your application on hold ! TBH I personally woulda felt better if they had rejections there too at least that would mean they kinda liked my application but wasn sure about their decision 🙁

Being on hold = hanging by a thread. Worst feeling ever. A few people came off of hold for IIs. But none lately. There's a rejection wave coming in October. It seems some survived that wave but still got cut off later. It will be a miracle if I get an II, but miracles do happen! Haha

My status just updated to "under review"... Looks like I'll find out my hold or ii fate soon!

Just going to put in a couple of pennies for y'all 🙂
I applied 2 cycles ago during my junior year and ended up waitlisted at 3 places (but no interview at GW and no acceptances in the end).
This time I did get an II from GW back in August for next month.
But from previous experience they do send out rejections via their portal, and then email several days later.
At least that's what happened to me a couple of years ago.

This is not what I want to hear when I've only got 2 IIs :uhno:

Hey don't worry! It's still early!
I didn't get my first interview until around 10/20 last time. I interviewed late, so waitlists were inevitable.
You've already got two, so that's great 🙂

Question: I received a secondary to this school 2 months ago, but never got around to finishing it. Out of curiosity, if I submit it by the end of this week, would it be considered too late for consideration right now? I'm an average applicant with LizzyM ~70.
