2015-2016 Loyola University Chicago (Stritch) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is there a list of the various community service activities they offer on their website (or can any current students comment on some that they've found particularly interesting?) I've been searching around on the school's ministry website and they only showcase a couple activities but I feel like there must be more than that.

In the first few weeks of school they host an Activities Fair where there's literally 15-20 different community projects to sign up and get involved with. I know there's multiple free clinics (some are more open to 2nd+ years since you can actually do more at that point!). Beyond clinical service there's programs where you can sign up to mentor a highschool student interested in medicine, or volunteer to help make and serve lunches for the homeless. There's also a shelter you can volunteer to staff overnight with another student or just help serve meals at. Ministry also partners with the Global Health program to promote a lot of 1-day service projects, such as helping mulch a garden in Maywood or signing up to do a poverty simulation where you spend the day seeing what it's like for people to live in poverty and how it's incredibly hard to 'escape' the cycle.

I'm sure I'm missing a ton of things. A lot of campus groups also have smaller events, like bake sales (such as for the Nepal earthquake) where contributions are matched by the school and donated.

Basically there's a lot! I'm sure other students could help out with more specifics. 🙂

Edit: if you speak Spanish or Polish your options go way up as you can serve as an interpreter for a ton of clinics too 🙂

Super relaxed interviews! You'll typically have one student interview and one faculty interview and they'll basically just ask you the typical questions plus questions about your app specifically. I was also asked a couple simple ethical questions as well as my thoughts on obamacare (nothing too specific). Know you and your app well and you should be fine! You've made it this far and they're really just trying to see how you interact with others 🙂
II via email or portal?

Did anyone go straight from their interview to O'hare? Just trying to decide what the best method to get to the airport would be

Planning on it! but i still don't know how to figure out how to get there...does uber work in Chicago?

Uber is an option, and the admissions people will happily help you call a cab if you need it.

Yes uber is super convenient in chicago. I would try the blue line during rush hour though, it gets you right into the basement of ohare 🙂

Blue line to ohare from stritch is nearly two hours. I did a $30 uber ride after my interview and it worked well.

One more day y'all!!!

I'm currently an M1 so I don't know if things have changed this year in terms of notification of an interview, but I received my interview via email and it was then reflected on the portal. I know admissions sometimes calls applicants as well to invite them for an interview!

It's nearly 1pm there and by the looks of SDN, they haven't started calling any of us! I got a phone call and had a mini heart attack, only to see that it was a work call :hungover:

Student I stayed with during my interview said he didn't get his call until the end of the day

I was totally willing to be patient and wait and all, but now it's after 3pm in chicago and i'm starting to get scared...!

When did you guys interview? Anyone interview first date and not hear yet?

It may be different this year, but last year I didn't get called until 7:30 pm, and I knew of others as late as 9. So don't worry! Also, anyone whose not accepted today is still likely being re-reviewed at the next date, so it's not the end all be all. Don't loose all hope!

Congrats to everyone that got the call today! Hoping that Loyola will start sending some more IIs soon!!! Been anxiously waiting since I was complete 7/26. I guess no news isn't the worst news. . .
I was complete in mid-July, and I just got an II on Tuesday. Here's hoping yours is coming soon!

I interviewed mid Sept and am still waiting. Interesting that they call so late.

Congrats to everyone who got in! I'm over here having a heart attack with every sound my phone makes.

Congrats to everyone who was accepted today!
