Hi, for previous students with II, does having an update like letter of rec or paper help in the process? my app has had no updates since august, and I think that these updates do go a long way. I dont have any papers published but would love to show them a letter from my PI? thank you for the advice. I feel this is all politics honestly.

Ohio state only takes updates post II!

II for January! Super excited, because I did not expect that at all. Any tips?
Interview day was very chill, my interviews were with 1 faculty and 1 resident, and it was very conversational. I mostly talked about food (I'm sort of a foodie) and Columbus area (I'm from Ann Arbor, and the faculty member was a former Ann Arborite). One of my best interview days, very well organized.

Do you recall the overall schedule of the day? Mostly traditional questions or did they have a few ethical scenarios ?

Mine did not have ethical scenarios, more about my app, my ECs, why OSU. I felt they were trying to get to know me as a person, and they were very nice, nothing stressful at all. THey really seemed to be interested in making sure I liked OSU, which I did.

its hard not to love that school!

Those that received acceptances through a phone call, did you get the call the day before you were supposed to hear back or the day of? Im supposed to hear back on the 17th and the closer it gets to the date the more impatient I get lol.

Can a current student comment on where the majority of M 1 students live?

If you're familiar with the campus area, most live south of the med school and west of High Street. Most I'd say are probably north of 3rd, but some live further south than that. NECKO and Victorian Village are full of places rented by graduate or professional students.

Some live out in the suburbs, some live in the newer, more trendy luxury apartments or lofts in Grandview, Short North, or German Village, if they can afford the higher prices. Still more live east of High St. or up in Clintonville, north of undergrad campus, though those are the rare exceptions I'd say.

(For those of you that are not, you can look up the med school's address for reference. 370 W. 9th Ave and just scan around).

Thanks! I'm an Osu alum so I'm familiar! So most students walk to class/on campus activities then?

Is it true that we're usually called the night before the expected notification date if we're to be accepted?

Also was the status change at exactly 12am? or was it at like 8am? excuse my impatience lol

I thought I was the only one haha! and Im waiting by as well!!
Edit: when I saw the notification I thought it was someone saying they got the call lol.

anyone get a call? do you guys think they wont call us, cause I saw that some groups didn't get a call at all.

Status updated, deferred. I was hoping for good news before the year ended, welp. Good luck everyone!

Starting to get excited about Ohio state but am thinking of living a bit farther from campus, so what is the parking situation for med students? Nice housing options about 15-20 minutes from campus, will be looking for female roommates too.

I thought OSU did pre-ii rejections but haven't seen any in awhile. Was I mistaken?

Hello all! For those applicants that have the "Deferred - Decision Pending" status and have sent an update letter, where did you send your letter? I assumed that update letters would be emailed to the medicine@osu<dot>edu address, but if anyone had specific information about where these letters should be sent, your feedback would be very much appreciated!

Not going to sugar coat it, it's dire. You're competing with the hospital staff for spots in the garages and lots closest to the med center, and the various annual parking passes offered by CampusParc are all pretty expensive and don't give students access to the garages around the hospital/med school. You could buy a city parking permit and try to get to campus early to find a spot in the neighborhood south of the med center to park, but again, that's playing entirely to luck. It's possible, especially if you get to campus area early, but it's hit or miss.

So you kind of have to pick your poison: cheaper city permit with uncertainty, or expensive CampusParc lots/garages. I'd say to familiarize yourself with the options on the CampusParc website for annual passes, as well as check out the city parking permit costs and see what you think. If you plan on coming to campus daily, then one of those two will be necessary. If you're only going to be around for required stuff, then maybe you could swing just paying the daily rates at the 9th Ave garage.

Thanks for the insight, that was not my Impression from interview day, so good to know. More internet scoping required on my part. Parking in ann arbor is an absolute nightmare, so if this has permit options I will just throw some cash at the problem.

@Rainbow Zebra I would vote for the CampusParc option (it's expensive but the lesser of two evils). I've done the city parking for 2 years and while it's dirt cheap, it's almost impossible to find a spot during the school year. Also, you're guaranteed at least one ding on your car per year ;P

II Today , Interviewing end of January!! Would greatly appreciate any advice!

The interviews are really laid back and theyre just trying to get to know you as a person. My interviews consisted of the standard "why medicine" type questions and questions about my application.

How many interviews does each applicant have during interview day?

Sweet, how long is each interview?

Woke up to an email from my faculty interviewer. First the (missed) call from Dr. Capers, then the hand-signed holiday card, and now the email. The admissions department here really is awesome and OSU keeps on rising on my list of medical schools.

this just made me so excited! t minus 13 days until interview time! Congrats again!!

Does this school send out pre-II rejections? Submitted my secondary in July and still no communication from them.

Sorry to hear that. When were you complete?
Very late (11/15?). So I wasn't totally surprised but it still sucks. Good luck to everyone else! Hopefully I will be just a year behind 😉 OSU is my first choice, and I've already made an appointment with the admissions office to discuss next cycle.

Can anybody give me an idea of the times for a typical interview day? I am trying to book my flights in and out of Columbus, but I can't find much on the website about how long I will be there. Thanks in advance!

I think the II said 9-4? But I think previous posts said they were done by 3... I wouldn't plan a flight earlier than 6 personally. Cbus traffic from 3-6pm can be a crap shoot and sometimes pretty Brutal on a weekday
