For those who interviewed mid-December-ish, does anybody recall when our decisions would be released? I think it was 4-6 weeks due to the holidays, but I'm not entirely sure.
expect February, I believe they just released NOV 4th results (well if the one on one interviewer is able to show) so theres a few dates before mid December.

Hey everyone,

I am interviewing pretty soon at OHSU and this will be my first MMI. Any tips about the interview day MMI would be greatly appreciated. I know some people already addressed what I asked, but just in case someone has a constructive idea.......

I was put on hold recently after interviewing and am OOS. It seems like overall, people from the hold pool have a fairly decent chance of getting in (probably like 30-50% eventually, right?). Does anyone know if that percentage goes way down for OOS people who've had an interview, or if we're considered similarly to IS people once we've interviewed?

I don't know how the mission-based stuff applies now, because I applied MD/PhD, which I know technically makes me mission-based for getting to the interview stage but not sure if it still applies after the interview...I'm just trying to figure out my chance for MD-only since MD/PhD is kind of impossible to predict at this point 🙂.

I agree with what others have said about the 8 minutes passing quickly. PSU has compiled a list of MMI practice questions/sources for practice questions which is on their website. If you have more questions, you can message me 🙂

I'm non-mission OOS, really hoping for an II!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ugh the wait!
Same. When did you submit? I submitted 09/28 and was marked complete 12/24...Still have hope though 🙂))

Submitted 7/26 and marked complete on 8/18. Stats are pretty low for OOS though I think but I have a slight glimmer of hope left haha.

Complete 8/20. OOS non-mission as well. No news yet!

So this is super random because it is an Australian channel and some of the a lot of things aren't relevant (OHSU doesn't do video questions to my knowledge, for example). But this youtube channel (he has a playlist of just MMI videos) is what I used to prepare for my MMI and for whatever reason it made me feel more confident...and I got in so I guess it worked.

Also I read the newspaper a lot, being able to talk about current events/issues in healthcare with some detail is helpful. Nothing in particular I would tell you to know about, just find issues you think are interesting and learn about them. Good luck everyone!

Oh, just noticed on the portal that I was rejected 1/22. Here's the message the portal had for me: (For reference, my MCAT exceeds their non-resident minimum, but my GPA does not.)

Thank you for your interest in attending the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine. As stated in the secondary application instructions, it is the admissions policy of the School of Medicine to give preference to the following applicants:
  • Residents of Oregon.
  • Non-resident applicants with Oregon Heritage. The School of Medicine uses the Oregon Heritage Policy for student selection, but it is not used as a basis for determining residency, and therefore the tuition a student pays. Oregon Heritage is defined as 1) A student with one or both parents residing in Oregon at the time of application, 2) A student who graduated from high school in Oregon with at least two years at a high school in Oregon, or 3) A student who graduated from an institution of higher education with a bachelor's or advanced degree with at least two years at an institution in Oregon.
  • WICHE-certified residents of Montana and Wyoming.
  • M.D./Ph.D. candidates.
  • M.D./M.P.H. candidates.
  • Non-resident applicants with superior achievements in academics and other related experiences. For the 2016 cycle, superior academics is defined as a cumulative Total GPA, as reported by AMCAS, of 3.70 or higher, and a cumulative score of 32 or higher (for MCATs taken from January 1, 2013 through January 31, 2015) or 513 or higher (for MCAT2015) on the most recent eligible MCAT. Superior achievements is defined as significant experiences in healthcare, leadership, extracurricular activities, and/or community service activities.
  • Those identified as Diversity applicants through a holistic review of their application.
This year the number of qualified applicants in the aforementioned groups significantly exceeded the available placements. In screening your file it was determined that you did not meet any of the above categories. Therefore, we regret to inform you that placement in the entering class of 2016 cannot be offered to you.

We greatly appreciate your interest in the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine and wish you every success in your future pursuits.

For re-applicants, can I ask. What was your experience like last year? What information did OHSU (or other schools) give you to work on this year?

I'm in post-interview purgatory at a couple of schools. Trying to start thinking about what I want to do in the event I need to re-apply.

During my exit interview, they told me my essay, Mcat, grades etc were good. I was told to do some more shadowing, so it seems like they consider the whole picture when giving advice.

If you want you can read last years thread for some specifics. I know some people were told Mcat, and other specific things to work on.

it is so individual! Try to do exit interviews, I found mine very helpful. (I had to retake the MCAT) Besides that, work on the basics, shadowing and volunteering. Any sort of community involvement is impressive, for example I volunteered at a food bank for a while.

Maybe current students @Summertime012 and @italiancowgirl can answer this, approximately when and how long is summer break between years 1 and 2? I've heard that it's pretty brief with the new curriculum

I was complete 8/8 and verified 9/23 and have yet to hear anything. Should I assume a silent rejection? I am OOS, LizzyM 77 so I'm pretty sure I was considered a mission based group.

I wouldn't lose hope, your out of state so your application has been looked at recently or will still be looked at (from what I understand, OOS are looked at generally later in the cycle). But does your portal say anything, such as a pre interview hold, etc? As I understand it the mission group requirement requires applicants to have both the GPA and MCAT they stated somewhere on their website, so as long as you have that its just a waiting game.

Was placed on Hold last night. I interviewed in December. Is it ever possible for applicants to be removed fromthe Hold pool before April 30th?

Our academic calendar shows Jun18-26. It's basically a week off in the middle of hormones and digestion block. I feel like we have adequate break time as we have enrichment weeks following each block that allows us with a lot of free time out of school. These all add up. I would rather be done in 18 months and lose my summer in order to gain 6 more months of clinical rotations. Just my opinion though!

It's one week for summer. The only time you get more than a week off before Step 1 prep (which is after a year and a half) is for winter break, which is like 12 days depending on where the holidays and weekends end up.
