2015-2016 University of Illinois Application Thread

So honest question,

If I am IS....Graduated from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign....and completed on august 6th....and the portal still says "applicant in progress"....is there a chance? or am I just holding my breath. I'd really like to complete my entire education through the Illinois system.

Totally still a chance. I know several people who were accepted and offered interviews in Dec and Jan. Btw "in progress" means they have not reviewed the application.

I recently emailed my M2 interviewer and he says that it's still very early in this cycle (yes, that's hard to believe since so many people seem to already be getting interviews and acceptances, but he reassured me that it's still early), and UIC interviews through June/July. He says that some people in his class interviewed in June so it's not over until you get the official rejection letter! Stay positive 🙂

Interviewed in Chicago 10/2 and still haven't heard back (status is still decision pending). It's not a big deal, I was just wondering if I should call them since it looks like people who interviewed a month later have heard back - any advice appreciated.

Accepted! 😀

@whatever5 what probably happened is that they deferred you to next month's pile, so your application will get reviewed at next month's meeting. Good luck!!

Just out of curiosity , do you guys think if someone has multiple acceptances, shouldn't they just choose the top 2 schools they want to attend and withdraw from others?
There are so many people waiting just to get an opportunity to interview.
I would withdraw if I was in that position.

This is not something specific to this thread so I would recommend starting your own if you wish to have this discussion. And to answer your question, no.

UIC doesn't take updates right? I just recently found out the paper I've been working on was published. My portal still says applicant in progress. What should I do? Does an accomplishment like a published paper really make a difference?

I don't agree. The person worked hard (not to say others didn't) and deserves the right to weigh out their options.

I graduated from UIUC too, twice actually!! Bachelors and Masters plus I work for the College of ACES now at UIUC. If I don't get an interview -___- its going to be a problem......

You should not hold on to acceptances you know you won't accept. But ultimately, that is the point of waitlists.

I've been "applicant in process" for the past 2 months, no change back to progress or any change at all (I check every weekday). Can anyone give me any clue as to what this might indicate? I've read about alot of people being "applicant in progress", meaning they haven't been reviewed yet, and from my understanding "applicant in process" means I'm currently under review. Has UIC sent out rejections yet? My first guess would be that if they haven't I'll just be included in a mass rejection later on, but a small part of me is being optimistic that my II will come in any day... I've been accepted somewhere already but UIC is the only school I would really consider trying to extend the due date for my deposit to consider, as it means I could stay close to home.
Call admissions. If you really want to go here and you're under the gun because of another acceptance, than talk to the school. SDN is a great place, but we can't answer these specific questions.

Thanks for the advice. I don't really understand why I wouldn't have been reviewed in October or November when candidates who interviewed a month later have been reviewed, but I guess this process just doesn't make a ton of sense.

That's actually exactly what I did last week when I realized I need to make the choice now. All they could tell me is that I'm still under review. I'm not looking for advice on whether I should hold out for UIC or not, I was wondering more along the lines of whether anyone familiar with the UIC timeline knows 1) If they have sent out rejections already or if they wait until the end of the cycle. and 2) If being under review for this long holds any significance.

I'm not looking for someone to make a decision for me, just for information.

I think with applicants still in process/progress there's not much to do but wait and see if they give you the clear to interview. From my understanding it's at this point and after interview(decision pending) that there is the longest wait time. It's really up in the air though with both points though because there are both plenty of people that suddenly get a II/final decision and people that don't get a response(usually rejection) until the end of the cycle in spring. As for the significance, I can't say.

Apparently post interview rejections don't go out until January or so, idk if anyone can confirm this.

I believe they're still interviewing way past January.

Hey guys, do you know if UIC takes ap credit for the bio and chem prerequisites? A friend of mine is wondering if she should retake them at the college level

Would anyone who has an II mind sharing what January and February dates were listed/available? I'm living abroad and trying to plan my dates in the US accordingly. Thanks!

January was almost entirely filled up when I scheduled mine a few weeks ago, so I wouldn't count on getting a date in January. Not sure about February.

It said: A final decision was made on your application on . Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone. There was no additional correspondence tab. I didn't think they did post interview rejections this early but I'm assuming they do.

Have you received a decision? I hope it was a good one! I'm in the same position!

You've interviewed already and have the same final decision status with no tab? oh boy. lmao

I'm in the same boat, and it's really got me wondering what's going on...

+1 Disappointed my alma matter hasn't shown me some love 🙁

I know! I bid us good luck!

Hey everyone, I was part of the first accepted group and just wanted to let those waiting know that I got my campus preference confirmed today via snail mail.

So, I asked this a while ago and didn't get much of a response, but is anyone else an RMED applicant? I know that they are supposed to be evaluating those applications sometime soon and I was wondering if anyone else is anxiously awaiting an II. . . basically I am looking for some company in my misery LOL

Question to those of you that have withdrawn their interview slot/candidacy: Did you just email Pamela Slaughter or is there a different email address or online option that's better?

Just found out I was placed on the Chicago campus! Weirdest thing though... I never once used my personal email address during the admissions process, but all of the instructions to set up my UIC email and portal came to that email. I wonder how they got it.

@BabyTeuvoFan Did you find out placement through the UIC portal? If so, I'm also placed at Chicago!
I also got setup instructions through my personal email...

I think they pull it from the FASFA if you've ever filled it out.

How many weeks post-interview did you hear about your acceptance? (Congrats!!) Also, how long does it take to be placed at a certain campus?

Complete 13 weeks and still 'in progress'🙁
I called the admissions office a few weeks ago and they told me that my app was with the reviewer and that once they have it, it may take 4-6 weeks to be reviewed and a decision made. It may be worth a call just to ask since you've been just chillin 'in progress' since the summer.

Interviewing in Chicago on Mon Dec 11th! OOS (Washington State).
Anyone else interviewing that same day?

LizzyM 74 (with MCAT taken in 2012, not sure how to calculate using the new MCAT...).

I'm interviewing on Dec 11th! LizzyM = 77. Question: Did interviewees ever receive a confirmation email or email with instructions after they scheduled an interview. I kind of forgot what time I'm supposed to be there, the schedule on interview day, etc. and I can't seem to find any emailed instructions :/

went from "applicant in progress" to "applicant in process" about 3 weeks ago. just went from "applicant in process" to "application is in process" a couple minutes ago. does this mean I've been looked over? I hope not... anyone have a similar thing happen to them and receive an II?

Is the AdCom still gonna meet this month for decisions? It's the holiday season and the 3rd Thursday of December is pretty close to Christmas/Winter Breaks for all schools

I would definitely call the office and see where your application is so far in the process. I know some have called before asking for more info on their current status and they were moved along in the cycle soon afterwards.

I don't recall getting any confirmation email after I scheduled my interview, but I did receive a letter in the mail about a week or two after I scheduled over the phone.
Here's a link with the info for Chicago interviews:

You just have to figure out whether you were AM or PM session. I'm sure the info for the other campuses is online as well.

From previous years threads I think they will be meeting, but the actual letters and decisions might be delayed until January or so.

Just got an II about thirty minutes ago! So excited! Looks like the offices closed juuuusssst as I was dialing, so I left a voicemail with my desired date/time.

Does anyone know if there's any chance that cancellations at previously booked time slots would allow for other applicants to snag them?

Definitely. The online portal for scheduling is pretty unreliable imo, so I would just check in with them regularly to see what spots are open and if any have opened up.

Hi! I have a wide range of questions so sorry if this post is a bit long.

1. People are talking about an "additional correspondence tab". When I go to the portal, I see the words additional correspondence but it is just the words and isn't something that I can click on. is it supposed to be something that I can click on?

2. Someone mentioned before that they saw their site preference in a section called "UIC connect tab and the pathway to enrollment section".... what is that? I do not see that on my status portal

3. Some people have mentioned that they have gotten emails with setup instructions? How long after you got accepted did you get this email? Was it before or after you got your site preference. I have yet to get this email and am not sure if I should be concerned

Thanks so much! Any help would be great 🙂

I also got setup instructions through my personal email...

Yeah this morning I got an email telling me to set up my account on my.uic.edu, and when I followed the instructions, logged in, and clicked on the "UIC Connect" tab, it says my term is Fall 2016-Chicago and gives me a button to switch to the Urbana-Peoria-Rockford track if I want. Yay congrats to you too!

I interviewed on 11/5, saw that a final decision was made on my application around 11/20, and got my acceptance letter packet a week later in the mail (I live in Chicago about 15 minutes from UIC). I sent my preference card in the next morning and received my campus placement via email this morning. All in all, I had everything figured out roughly one month after my interview date.

1. When people say "tab," they just mean words. You're good! That's what mine looked like and I ended being accepted.
2. You won't see that until after you are accepted and placed on a campus (as far as I know). It isn't in the status portal for admissions, it is in a separate portal at my.uic.edu that you will set up after acceptance. Other people should weigh in as well, but my admissions portal doesn't reference my site placement anywhere.
3. I got the email about 1.5 weeks after receiving my acceptance packet in the mail, but I sent in all my forms and deposit immediately and live very close to the school. So I imagine it would depend on how quickly you turn that around.

Hope this helps!

Thank you SO much!
I was accepted on 11/28 and was seeing that all these people had other tabs and information that I didn't have yet so I started to get nervous. I will definitely keep an eye out for the mail. And just to be sure.... the email is what tells you how to set up the portal at my.uic.edu ..? Thanks!

So I have my interview this Friday in Chicago. Does UIC send out any information beforehand? Or do I just show up at the time?

It sounds like there are still slots for the Chicago campus... Has anyone got some good insight on how to decide between Chicago and Peoria? I kinda want to be in the city, but it sounds like you get a lot more attention when you work with the docs in Peoria (and that sim center seems pretty cool too)
